It's the same thing as batman but with a different approach, batman is all about revenge, he wants the faceless criminals of gotham to suffer but doesn't want to stoop to their level.
Peter is all about doing the 'right thing' because even though it was a faceless criminal in his city that destroyed his world, it was he himself not doing the right thing, going against everything he'd been taught that compels him to have to be the nice guy.
