I've been working on my buddy cop action film script for a few months.
What are some cop and/or action movie cliches I should avoid?

>old black sergeant
>one guy is streetwise
>other is "cool"

Well their chief is a black woman (think Angela Basset), and the two cops are both from a shitty area.

oh god this sounds horrible
abort the script

>What are some cop and/or action movie cliches I should avoid?
don't avoid them, embrace them

She's not black for the hell of it, there's a reason

burnout police chief

>Black woman cop lead

Stop

Supporting character actually. Why do you guys hate minorities so much?

One of them drives a vintage red convertible car

I don't. Could be a white woman lead in a buddy cop movie and I'd still hate it. I added it for the inevitable (You)

Carry on then if she's not the lead.

See in real life people are black for the hell of it

Police Chiefs complaining about the Mayor

>cliches I should avoid?
why?

>buddy cop film
>avoiding clichés

What the fuck is wrong with you?

I love Jungla de cristal, great movie.

>"I'm too old for this shit"
>yelling black fat chief
>"he died one day before retirement"
>pulling out ankle gun killing the final boss
>sassy annoyed prostitutes in the police HQ

If you want to avoid cliches -- which is easier said than done -- take what cliche might arise in X situation and twist it.

No monoracial couples or love interests. It's 2017. Make sure all your black characters have white girlfriends. Also if you want to subvert cliche, how about no white male protagonist cop for a change. What if your lead was a woman in a hijab?

>avoid
buddy you need to integrate all of them

A well done cliche is better than an original idea being poorly done.
Just don't make a shit movie and your movie won't be shit.
But it will be shit because you're on Sup Forums and you have shit taste.

>ME COME UP WITH LE EBIN CRIME DRAMA EPIC SCI FI MOVIES!!! ME GOOD WRITER CUZ GENRE MAKE MOVIE!!!

Fuck off idiot

She was bit by a radioactive black man?

I've got to be honest guys, I've read scripts that are considered masterful and scripts that are considered shit and I struggle to tell them apart. The only one that was obvious great was Chinatown because it's original and captures your imagination immediately.

>"The Mayor's gonna have my ass"

>the protagonist cop duo is in a heated but friendly rivalry with another cop duo

>I GOT THE DA BREATHING DOWN MY NECK

>ONE MORE FUCK UP AND YOU'RE OFF THE CASE

>GIVE ME YOUR GUN
>....AND YOUR OTHER GUN

genre has been done to death

all that's left is to make one a detective (not a cop) and the other guy who is good at something physical

>THAT'S IT, HAND OVER YOUR BADGE AND GUN
