Why are comics diversifying characters to minorities who are such a small percent of sales? It feels like they're alienating many consumers for the sake of a small portion. Why not create new, interesting characters rather than eradicate existing ones? Like Thor, Miles, the other Hulk, dead shot, etc.

because millennials are cancer

Because it's WAY easier to change an existing character then to make a new ones.

There's something that disturbs me about the appearance of new Hulk, and I'm not even sure what it is.

...

because new guys fail. Take Cho for instance. if it was just a Mastermind Cho book, it wouldn't get any play. Whor would die like the Simpsons book if she weren't taking over for Thor.

I'm sure you know more about selling product than Disney.

Comic readers are the biggest nostagiafags to want the status quo to ever change

also all this diversity stuff is rushed and forsed

also all this diversity stuff is rushed and forsed

Because white people aren't buying enough comics so they're going to other demographics (since they amazingly also have money) to boost sales. If white people don't like it they only have themselves to blame for not buying enough comics.

Because he's a chink who's super from comes from gamma radiation.

You're just not used to looking at a Totally Awesome Hulk, it'll pass.

His traps are too big

>Spider-Miles: Peter's still around, so it's not a replacement, even if he's terrible
>Jane-Thor: Okay, yeah, she's shit, but original Thor's coming back pretty soon
>Amadeus Chulk: Is a great character, fuck off. Hulk getting killed off was just a Bendising and he'll be back soon anyway.
>Captain Falcon: has been around for decades, he's totally an appropriate character to take up the shield. Also, Steve Rogers is still around.
>Kamala Marvel: is Ms Marvel because the original got promoted to Captain.
>Sam-Nova: Is only Nova because Rich Rider was dead anyway, plus Dickrider's coming back anyway.
>Iron Riri: Isn't actually Iron Man, even if she's in his book.
>Iron Doom: Isn't a minority.
>Nadia-Wasp: Isn't a minority.
Am I missing anyone?

That doesn't make sense. If you market towards 68% of the population, there's a bigger group of people likely to buy from you, rather than marketing towards 12%

>>Nadia-Wasp: Isn't a minority.

White women are the greatest minority though.

popular characters sell more than new characters
changing something is a cheap tactic to generate renewed interest, social justice is a hot topic for many young people, is this really that hard to figure out?

Even if they're not complete replacements, like miles, it's weak writing to just make a ethnic version of a character.
Spice it up, introduce a new character in an existing franchise, like a secondary hero who teams up with Spider-Man or some shit, but have them be unique and cool. Publicity can come from what they already have. People buy those books and see a new interesting character, then make a run about them, it's not rocket science

Forcing diversity to appeal to casual faggots is hurting entertainment. Whether it be video games, comics, cartoons, etc. They're sacrificing quality for big bucks. It's a shame. The casualization of products provides money I assume the old audience couldn't bring. Artistic integrity always fails if the check is big enough.

Could be it.

Or the fact that he is smiling.

They did that. Alpha. He failed

Shouldn't you be actually trying to have a child instead of whining about white genocide? Oh wait, you stupid fucks are too miserable to actually get anyone of the opposite sex to pay attention to you.

You don't quite get the thought process here.
They do not want good writing. They do not want to take risks. What they want is easy money. They have major brands, and ethnic diversity is trendy. So they take their major brands and add diversity, because that seems like easy money. Simple as that. Bonus points for pissing off nerds, giving them tons of free publicity as it gets relayed all over the internet.

Besides it's hardly a new thing. Remember when they replaced an entire team of young white 'murricans with nothing but minorities and/or foreigners?

It doesn't matter if they're 68% of the population, if they're not buying then they're not worth the cast it takes to market to them.

Not him but what the fuck are you going on about? Why are you assuming and hinting at the virgin neckbeard ad hominem?

Miles is the only one who could be said to be purely a minority version of his predecessor. All the rest are different personality-wise and bring something else to the series. Chulk's a horny teenager with poor impulse control, Nadia is socially stunted and inherited her dad's instability, Sam Alexander is a fucking idiot... They're distinct legacy characters, just like the legacy Green Lanterns are all different characters.
Also, you know, they did that with Amadeus. He's been around as a side character to the Hulk for years, and now he's starring in the Hulk book. But for the most part you can't just create totally new hero identities because they don't sell. At all.

Liberals get super pissed if you make a black character white, but making a white character black is great.

They're doing it for the sake of diversity. Don't pretend that it's anything else.

Well I mean he might, disney's not even making it into the top then any more.

>Why are comics diversifying characters to minorities
Why should it matter?

They're even doing an all black version of Hamlet now (I know that's hardly Sup Forums related); the point is, imagine how ass blasted they be if they did an all-white version of whatever the African equivalent is.

It's a tried and true arguing method.

Wasn't CW2 still up there? I haven't seen figures for August, so I might be wrong about that

Holy fuck. Mainstream entertainment has went completely into the shitter.

X-Men had been pretty much cancelled at that point and the last 30 issues had been reprints though.

For example, if they made a New Fantastic Four book with Cho, Robbie, Miles and Laura I don't think people would mind, since they wouldn't be replacing a current Fantastic Four book.

It's fallacious.

Please meme elsewhere

Confess your sins

Change your life

I like how everybody fits into a single category

>Why are comics diversifying characters to minorities who are such a small percent of sales?

Because total current sales are a small percent of sales in any previous era, and controversy sells at least a small fraction more than anything you'd consider "good storytelling." (Which, mind, is subjective as hell in the first place. I'm sure there's someone out there that likes some of this new shit.)

The race of the character shouldnt define the race of the buyer you racist cuck

Disney did an all-Lion version of Hamlet too. Shakespeare adaptations come in all varieties, changing the race of the characters, the locations, the time periods. It's not really a big deal.

I don't think that user is entirely complaining about an "all black" Hamlet. Just pointing out the double standard.

Prove me wrong. I'm not memeing. Stop with the bullshit.

Yeah, probably.
I don't get why people are complaining that much, though. It's not like if they changed it back it'd make Marvel good, and it's not like the characters being "diverse" is making them bad. Kamala is good. Chulk is good. Nova being part hispanic is barely even brought up whether you think he's good or bad. Legacy characters, either to boost sales or to tell a different sort of story, have been a concept since the silver age, and it's fucking stupid that people are only complaining now that they're doing it to compensate for the fact that most Marvel heroes are white.
The issues with Marvel are far deeper seated than "dey're pandering to blacks an' libruls" and require a complete overhaul of editorial and a new crop of writers to fix.

The fact that you can't name a single equivalent with an all-black cast kind of speaks volumes, doesn't it?

>Iron Doom: Isn't a minority.
EXCUSE YOU. He's Rroma.
Not that it matters, it certainly never mattered to Doom, and while tumblr has been foaming at the mouth for years about QS and Scarlet Witch not being portrayed Gipsy enough, I've yet to see one poast about our benevolent Lord of Latveria

wait for the decade to end and everything will reset again, with marvel you never know, it could be good or it could get even worse with some other gimmick, if lucky we might get another era like the early 2000s

It's hard to remember a guy being of gypsy descent when he literally owns a country and lives in a castle

That's just a play.
Orson Wells started hat with all black Macbeth in the 30's.
It's bullshit only blacks can play Othello now.

BBC/RSC does those a lot, making ppl black/gay.
I've enjoyed Shakespeare's Globe versions better recently. RSC is bunch of pretentious dingus, even tho acting is usually better.

The black Hamlet was OK.
The black King Lear was pretty mediocre to bad.
The black Julius Caesar was FANTASTIC, I highly recommend it.
Roman names are so great when spoken with a deep bass African accent:

Anyway, they'll just return to the white/original versions of the chacters when everyone gets tired of racebending...

Not to mention he hid any of his distinguishing features in magitek armor 99,9% of the time.
But yeah... Miles isn't hopping the border with purple drank, tacos and chicken under his arm, either. Neither is Chulk mixing up his L's an R's.

country full of gypsys

The Hulk is a Stand now?

Germans, Ukrainians...

kys jojo-cunts

Hamilton was all black too
I wonder if its gonna be a trend

>They're sacrificing quality for big bucks.

Look at this fag, acting as if comics weren't a business.

...

I love these threads because you can easily tell who the Sup Forumsacks and Sup Forumstards who don't read comics are.

>MFW I see them claim new characters aren't being regularly created

...

>It's a casual thinks Marvel is "comics" thread

You people are fucking idiots.

It's gonna be a trend BECAUSE of Hamilton.

it's only allowed because comics are marginal and no one cares, they don't touch shit that makes actual money.
Look how Fin was c-ucked and desexualized in NuStar Wars.

Isn't it racist to believe that non-whites will automatically go and buy a comic solely because the characters are non-whites as well?

Paterson Effin' Joseph.
brb ordering the DVD.

That show was sold out since day one because of how much better it was once they changed it

prolly, but it's the party line, don't question it, you filth prole

This. People can complain all they want, but the Hamilton people are laughing all the way to the bank.

Adding to this: The reason why diversity is big in comics now? Because you pasty cucks don't read comics.

Muh representation may be bullshit, but audience familiriarity IS a thing. It's why many games/movies localize rather than translate.

I know it's a business but I believe you can have integrity and make money. Fallout New Vegas was a video game that did it. Early Regular Show was great and it made money. Cowboy Bebop, etc.

I get the feeling the average black person wouldn't be particularly interested in all-black casts of plays that aren't hip-hop musicals though. That's the reason Hamilton is popular. Because it was written for that audience.

They probably are trying to tap into and exploit that market. as a minority, I'd much prefer new IPs than this type of pandering. It's demeaning. The only people who seem to celebrate these changes are patronizing white people. And black people for some reason who can never get enough of being pandered to.

How do black comic fans feel about Prince of Cats?

You act like they actually care about racism beyond whether or not it can make them money

Romeo + Juliet redeemed?

Yeah, but marketing isn't an exact science. It's common for trends to miss the point of the original work.

I'm waiting for the version of Macbeth with rap battles

Aside from Deadshot it's just Marvel doing it.

>you can have integrity and make money.
That's an oxymoron and you know.

If this rings true then threads like these wouldn't exist. Whites shouldnt have a problem with diversity then.

Why does hulk look like a fuck boi?

Hi Sup Forums

Comics always have shitty lines they can just task a writer who's between real work.

They learned after Hickman that having a dozen Avengers and seven X-men titles isn't going to increase sales.

So this way everyone gets to point at DC for being racist/sexist/whatever and Marvel gets a pass because "but but but iron man is a black girl! they can't be racist!"

You'll have to explain what you mean by fuck boi, since the common definition is "guy I don't like".

Nah, DC does it too, just not on the same scale (and don't have as much of a LOOK AT HOW PROGRESSIVE WE ARE aggressive marketing policy)

Iron Man isn't a black girl. Back to Sup Forums
>He pays attention to clickbaot articles instead of reading the actual comics

Back to Sup Forums with you too

DC's less annoying because they have a stronger legacy tradition. New characters are not "latin green lantern", it's "yet another damn human green lantern".

Blacks as a group are poor normie casuals who buy shit based on social status.
There is NOTHING in capeshit that would make them buy a 3.99 pamphlets once a month to read alone, fucking ridiculous.
Every black nerd I knew read One Piece and Dragonball at borders tho.

Marvel isn't about making comics anymore, they're supposed to maintain an open and diverse appearance so as to seem inviting to movie-goers, especially foreign ones.

>Iron Man isn't a black girl. Back to Sup Forums
She goes by a different name but she's the new Iron Man. That's what the writers, the editors, and the company says.
time.com/4394478/iron-man-riri-williams-tony-stark/

the common def is "bois I wanna fucc," newshit.

>it certainly never mattered to Doom
He's EXTREMELY proud of his heritage.
>I've yet to see one poast about our benevolent Lord of Latveria
>villain
>practices witchcraft
>regularly steals shit (powers, items, etc.)
>constantly scams people (betrayed like, half the alliances he's been a part off)
The tumblr would have a stroke. Thank good Doom is, at first sight, extremely goofy and cliche, so retards are off-put from digging deeper.

no, she's Ironheart, user, they are different words, sex, and ppl.

>she's the new Iron Man
Actually, Doom is.

She's not Iron Man, she's her own character. It's like saying Robin is the new Batman because Bruce retired.

If anyone is the "new Iron Man" it's Doom.

So are they still going with the name Iron Heart even though it's the same as a similar looking female character in a pornographic adaptation of Iron Man?

Another one for the "What If issue is now canon" pile? There's a disturbing lot of these

yes, I need to draw yuri pron of both when I get some time too

There are several baseless assumptions you're making here, but let's assume you're right and minorites are indeed a small percentage of comic readers. Minorities are also a growing percentage of the US--set to become a majority-minority nation by 2050. The smart business decision is obviously to break out of the mold of a whites-only industry and draw in a wider base of consumers.

Theyre not afraid to take chances

The better question is why these faggots even care.
Nothing sticks in comics anyway.

I stopped reading Hulk when he became a grey bouncer in Vegas like a billion years ago.
Literally nothing matters in capeshit, they'll just retcon everything anyway.

Could it be that alpha was poorly written and completely unlikable?
