at least he didn't touch Dune

they mention Rush in the book like 20 times. The best friend of the main character is a fatass shemale in a rush shirt.

Actually, this is admirable dedication. Too bad the end result is so abysmal.

I think the problem with this book is it disappears too far up its own ass on the whole VR and 80's nostalgia pandering and barely glances over the real world setting, which was infinitely more interesting.

Just reading that page triggers me
Nostalgia pandering garbage
I grew up through all this stuff
Star Wars in 77 at the drive in when i was 5 etc
it's trying to my age demographic
Member berries to nth degree
Probably will make a billion no problem
*pukingoutmymouthnoseearseyeballsandevweyotherorifice.png

Rush is perfect for the braindead nostalgia vibe they're going for, I'm only surprised we didn't get some other obvious choice like DEVO

DEVO would be perfect with the teaser I saw

From what I can tell of the book from these threads, the entire plot is literally
>DUDE I 'member so much about nostalgic nerd stuff that I became king of the VR internet and got a gf and the creator of the VR internet personally congratulated me on how nerdy I am LMAO

DEVO's on here

>and, of course, kevin smith

I actually remember every one of those songs when they came out
>Omg I have to see this movie
*stillpuking.jpg

How embarrassing

Sure seems like it
Lazy lazy lazy lazy writing

>I actually remember every one of those songs when they came out
Don't forget your heart medicine grandpa

>dancing with myself
Hope they play that in the fuckbot scene

what were the 80s *really* like oldfag?

What do you guys think is the absolute worst excerpt from this book?
I can never fucking choose

The whole le aech was a fat black girl the whole time, bet you didn't expect that huh? reveal

This will always be #1 for me

That's not the author talking, that's the character. All the author did was google for 80s crap.

This is the author IRL though

>God, you guys, it's HARD being a nerd
>Like, you don't even know
>I had to read all the comic books AND watch all the cartoons
>And then it turned out Santa wasn't real!
>I've been through hell and back, all for this noble cause

This guy makes it sound like such a big fucking chore to be a nerd and come out alive. If he actually enjoyed these nerdy things he wouldn't see himself as some martyr who suffered through everything to come out on top as the nerd champion. If he actually enjoyed these things, he wouldn't need some ultimate end goal or prize, he would just enjoy doing all of this for the sake of it.

Besides, if all of this was such hard work for him, to study and research his way into "nerd-dom" instead of just getting there through personal interest and leisurely passion, then he could have just as well put his time and effort into becoming a socially-adept Chad who goes out and makes friends with everyone and fucks all the ladies he finds pretty.

I just don't get it. Are we supposed to sympathize with the author? Is this whole book just about "being a nerd is hard :("? What is the purpose, the point, the plot? The whole thing just seems like a big fucking wank-fest.
>Boo hoo hoo buy my book and give me money because I was watching H.R Pufnstuff while everyone else was going to parties and getting laid. :(

Oh. This is shit then. Never mind, lol.

This was enough to make me write off this movie.

I was going to buy this shirt but i dont want people to think that i only bought because i watched the film and thought it looked cool

this. Nerds are the ultimate cucks.

I honestly don't understand why this triggers people? Why do people hate references?

mmm smelly pits

Same

Would have been better if the character was as thicc as she was meant to be

>literally the only movie ever made that's set in my hometown

I feel obligated to watch it.

hmmm how DO we sleep while our beds are burning?

Rush is the worst acclaimed band ever. Fans are annoying too and I love Freaks and Geeks for addressing this.

You all may enjoy reading some of author Ernest Cline's poetry, this and "Nerd Porn Auteur" are my favourites.
ernestcline.com/spokenword/gwo.htm

Hi grandpa

>no thicc qt playing artemis
>at the same time, making her thinner will piss off the book's legions of SJW fans

what about dream theater.

Don't know. How can we dance when our earth is turning?

>le aech was a fat black girl the whole time, bet you didn't expect that huh?
whats that? whos this "aech"

youtube.com/watch?v=Trhv4Gi6fy4

The main character's best friend in the VR world, his avatar is a white guy

>WOW LE EASTER EGGGGGG
whats with this millennial mentality of seeing movies like a game where you have to unlock every secret or something?

Looks like they've changed that for the film though

bummer. why not make his gf a fat negro chick irl?

not him but, absolutely garbage. Fuck dream theater, so disappointed

#1 plus tip

there's no convincing you naysaying assfucks especially this far before a release

but i enjoyed the book and am looking forward to this adaptation Armada was a bit of a letdown tho t.bh

I kind of liked the book, for what it was...but...that trailer was abysmal. It should just basically be like Stranger Things: Big Screen Edition.

It's not a "real" story/book nor should it be a "real" film. It's just a pop culture pastiche

I just noticed the shirt you're talking about.

I bought it probably...12 years ago.

How sad.

>not bulking up to get that Oscar nom

Lazy.

Anyone ever have a retrograde ejaculation? It's where you reach climax, but the semen goes back inside. This is something I experienced after starting antidepressant medication. I was prepared for delayed ejaculation, and sure enough it took a long time and much effort to reach orgasm, but eventually I got there, but it was a very muted sensation aside from the feeling of ejaculation without a real orgasm and when I looked down at my penis there was no visible ejaculation. This is retrograde ejaculation. A frustrating experience, without even having the build up of blue balls. This is the same experience as listening to Dream Theater

Reminder that it is physically impossible to memorise all the album lyrics mentioned on this one page, let alone the movies and games of the entire 80s decade.
Imagine not just playing but mastering every NES or ATARI 2600 game. This guy has supposedly done that with every known console and home computer of the 80s. In addition to memorising hundreds of screenplays and thousands upon thousands of song lyrics and works of fiction.

It's OK, you're just a brainlet with terrible taste in literature

This excerpt needs to come with context.

I read this book specifically because of this excerpt.
Because I saw it on Sup Forums, and Sup Forums is obsessed with things being "reddit".
Sup Forums is absolutely obsessed with calling things bad simply because they reference other things.

Anyone who hasn't read the book but has read this excerpt, it's important for you to understand WHY this passage is terrible. And it's not the bog-standard "It's bad because it references stuff" schtick Sup Forums loves so much.
That's the mistake I made. I thought there might actually be something to this book, because Sup Forums is really damn good at missing the point of this kind of thing, and surely, there must be a point if the author is going to commit to these references this hard, right?
Nope.

It's bad because this is it. The entire fucking book does this, and it does it with exactly as much weight and purpose, which is to say none at all.
The book is SO full of these kinds of "remember this" references, you expect that the book will make a point about them eventually. There will be a reason behind it, or it's setup for later in the book when everyone gets the rug pulled out from under them and the book makes some grand position on the role of pop-culture in the grand scale of society or something.

It never does.
The book has no ultimate point to make, and if it does, it sure as hell isn't about this.

Don't make my mistake. Don't think this is standard Sup Forums-style hate on something popular.
This excerpt here? This is it. This is all the author has to say. There is nothing more.
This is a goddamn terrible book, and it will be a terrible movie.
