How do you respond?

ask if anyone can view my holo records

Transporters are one of the most Jewish inventions in all of science fiction.

I AM A HUMAN BEING WITH FREE WILL AND A CONSCIOUS I'LL NOT BE KILLED FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE YOU CARDY BASTARDS

Beam me up... tonight.

>you will never get beamed up on Kirks dick

How could anyone ever willingly use a transporter in the ST universe considering all the heinous accidents involving them? Maybe your shuttle will crash and you'll get set on fire or crushed or sucked into space but at least you won't get turned inside out or fused with another person.

I like the -you die when you are being transported and an exact clone takes your place- theory

Most /trek/ fags will call this reddit.

Beam me up, whoever is in the transport room

You die every second and an clone with slightly different configuration and position takes your place.

What this guy said. Depending on how old you are you have most likely replaced your entire "self" already. You shed your old skeleton every 10 years. You shed and replace your entire intestinal lining in a few months. You replace your hair, finger nails, saliva, blood cells, skin cells, every month. You even replace neurons, destroy, and create new ones all the time. "YOU" are not the same "you" from 20 years ago. What remains "you" though is beyond physical and probably extradimensional. Probably what you call a "soul" or "conscious" which is completely undetectable to current technology. That remains "you" forever. That "you" is a set pattern of memories, abilities, reflexes, preferences, biases, and interactions that make you "you."

Your body can be replaced in the transporter every time but as long as the PATTERN remains the same it will always be "you" and never a replacement.

I'd be too afraid that my atoms get scattered and re-materialize in some object.

Is Star Trek an accurate depiction of the future? We'll probably have a similar form of socialism within the coming decades.

Please this is how real life is. Can you remember in exact detail yesterday? Two days ago? A week ago? A month ago. The you on those days died on those days and there is a new you every day.

ya that probably helps to explain why you don't feel like the same person you were 20 years ago, that and memory issues. so why would i volunteer to be replaced in a matter of seconds instead of in a few decades exactly?

has the captain authorized me to use it?

Nope. Socialism rewards failure and punishes success. The failures breed faster than the successful and sooner or later it collapses on its ass.

>Is Star Trek an accurate depiction of the future?
Well CRISPR may lead to the Eugenics wars and North Korea WW3, so yes, very accurate.

Because it makes no difference. All the transporter does is put your body on pause, copy/pasta later and it picks up from where it left off. What you fail to understand is that if you're in the middle of a 5 years skeleton, which you will shed in 5 more years, the transporter will not give you a brand new 11 year old skeleton. It will replicate the same current 5 year skeleton you were at. Your body will pick up where you left off. That's why it doesn't matter.

If you want to talk about cloning and replacing look at the Vorta. They consider their cloning process to be "immortality" when it is not. It is just an exact genetic replacement that reads the logs, journals, and daily updates on the previous clone. Once they have "updated" themselves they take the place of it immediately and consider themselves that same individual when in reality it is not. Just because you have updated yourself on your previous clone doesn't make you that person. It is possible that the Vorta just consider that same "life experience" to be one constant past down life experience from one to the other as legitimate immortality. Thus it is more of a religion instead. Since they have no real desires of their own it is possibly just a true long past down life from one clone to the next.

Another example is the Trill. I hate the Trill because of all the confusion. Dax constantly brags about being 700 years old but in reality she's just Jadzia who has absorbed the memories of the symbiote host. Remove the host and Jazia is alone and cannot remember the previous lives. They, too, consider it immortality to a certain extent because they will live on through the symbiote. But what kind of life is it living in a slug inside someone's abdomen through some cute girl that can't make sense of it?

Yeah some kind of national form of socialism.

Yes! Make it so.
