A community has a certain culture to it that its members are expected to adhere to. Someone publicizes that community and it's flooded with new members who have no idea of the culture or how to act. Normally, with new users coming in small numbers, they have time to assimilate and pick on on the board's culture.

In huge numbers though, those people no longer have to assimilate. They are there in numbers enough to change the culture of that community.
