As a teenager I was fairly left, but held some red pilled views outside of modern political discussion. I was for Paul in 08 but after that I went back to the left. This election I was for Bernie, until he got his mic taken away by sheboons. He didn't have a chance.

Yes. I flew off to the left after grade school and by the time I graduated college I was fully on board with all the social progressive stuff. I had a creative writing degree and worked for a non-profit that was basically a money pit for very rich NJ liberals to throw parties.
I started to crack when I realized how much of the big name lefties in my area were completely hypocritical. Most I met in-person were strongly anti-poor and anti-working-class. None of my marxist dialectic was anything to them but cute small talk they would just worm around with cliches.
But I didn't truly break out until I started reading Salon, Atlantic, and Kos daily. The more I read, the more parallels I saw between the obviously fake limosine liberalism these people held in their hearts vs. the social justice stuff they espoused.
It took about four years to shatter, but once I got over the complete shame of being white and male, making totally factual observations about the world around me that weren't "polite," and every other little taboo I was completely gone.
I quit my job, got /fit/, went back to school to be a plumbing technician, and recently got married with a pair of twins on the way. I'm now thinking about where we will move once the kids are born. We can't stay in Jersey. I'm thinking some of those low pop. states out west could use a plumber.

Political beliefs are just the result of human nature.
It's cliché to say that "life isn't fair", but it's true. When people finally let go of the idea that everything should be "fair" or realize that "fair" is what someone who is fucking everyone else calls the current situation... That's when the urge for freedom can finally overtake the conditioning that society has been putting them from infancy to hold onto like a comforting blanket.
The closest thing to fair we can hope for is to not interfere in the lives of others and, in turn, not have our lives interfered with.

Now I live in Texas and my mom was democrat with grandmother VERY democrat, though the whole state was conservative (and the kids were made to be). I was an outsider cause I thought the whole system was fucked up and just found out about Marx Communism (through the smurfs).
So all the kids were saying they hope they get conservative, I was saying I hope I was communist. I was the only one to get conservative (more central, but still on conservative side).
Everyone else got strong democrat to communist. And they all had a shit fit, some girls even cried.
I was laughing my ass off, and knew that day on I was not like the others or I was exactly what their parents wanted but was still a renegade.
Yeah I stopped being leftist once I realized that I was inherently their enemy and there was nothing I could do about it except surrender to their rule.
At least that's the left now. I still see myself as leftist at heart and just see the alt-right as temporary refuge while ironically my side grows more authoritarian and less nihilistic.

I'm in college right now. I went in as a libertarian, ready (and excited, believe it or not) to have a lot of debates and discourse. I was ready to grow and help others grow as a community, as a nation, and as a generation.

Yes. I used to be fairly socialist and believed Sweden had the perfect government. This was before the migrant crisis mind you. I read a book called "Our Culture, what's left of it" by Theodore Dalrymple that changed my views on socialism a bit. Then all these shitty articles from Buzzfeed, Huffington post, Gawker etc really pissed me off. I'm still slightly left, I like socialized healthcare, but I move more to the right as time goes on, and I like the likes of Ron Paul, Nigel Farage etc.

My mother suffers from dementia.
She doesn't know who I am, she doesn't know who my father is, she doesn't remember things that she did five minutes ago. She is 100% reliant upon my retired father (and to a lesser extent me) for care 24 hours a day and it's killing him.
I used think to myself "Gee I wish we could afford to hire a nurse to take care of her." Which got me thinking about "universal healthcare" and how "there should be a system in place to take care of the elderly! harumph!".
Then I started thinking about it more.
Who exactly would the state send to take care of my mother? Certainly not the cream of the crop. Just whatever random nigger nurse they had lying around idle that doesn't give a good goddamn about my mother and probably hates their job.
Why the fuck would I want that around my vulnerable mother? Think about all the horror stories you hear about what happens in old folks homes.

Now apply that to the rest of your healthcare in life. Do you really want the guy doing your surgery to be some alienated fuck that feels underpaid and literally hates your guts for making him work?

Well, I HAVE universal health care. And I lived in America and have a decent perspective about the health care there too.
Under universal healthcare you can still pick where you want to go - if you don't like your doctor or hospital, then you can go elsewhere. You're not beholden to a specific place.
However, in your particular case, for long-term care, I believe you would get a stipend and get to choose where you want to send the person who needs long term care. In addition, universal health care doesn't cover everything and is really meant for general health care needs and there is still insurance that supplements the rest.
Same here. Was a classical anarchist most of my life. After 9 years, I realized that the contemporary garbage (SJWs polluted anarchism since before SJWs were a thing) would by the dominant form of culture and I realized I wasn't okay with that.
