No, people have somehow latched onto the idea that the best adaptations are the ones that change the least from the source material, despite the fact that Kubrick spent 40 years teaching us the opposite
If you've got the balls and the know-how to actually transition (read: change (read: 'adapt')) the source material into a format that works for the screen you can adapt literally anything, you can adapt abstract poetry or whatever the hell you want
