Do other countries have oddball religions such as Mormonism? Like religions, nobody really likes but has no reasons to hate either, except they can be annoying.

what do mormons do?
are those that live in the farm with antiquated equipment and customs?

Yes. We have those weirdly religious, anti vaccination, home school types.

They're like Christians, but they use the bible along with a sci-fi novel (the book of mormon) written by Joseph Smith. They're more strict and traditional. Nice people though

we have en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehovah's_Witnesses but there are less than 5000 of them

nobody cares about religion unless you are a m*slim

There are lots of Mormonists on the missionary journey here.

Damnit. I thought we had them contained in Utah.

There is a reactionary Catholic cult centred in El Palmar de Troya which worships Columbus and Franco as saints. It was founded by an electrician who was popular in Seville's gay bars in the 70s. They have their own pope and their list of excommunicated people includes all Communists, all Socialists and everyone who has watched Jesus Christ Superstar. I wish I were making this up.

The weird thing about mormons is how it's essentially an extension of american patriotism, disguised as a religion.
>We can't have a messiah who was from a brown cunt. Instead will make an all-american prophet in Mississippi, who god will tell that jesus and all bible figures were actually from america too.
What I can't understand is how they've somehow managed to get converts in other countries...

nah, that the amish

We have laestadians. Officially part of the lutheran church, but they have their own priests, gatherings etc. They are really old fashioned and conservative. They don't watch tv, listen popular music and have other restrictions. Generally harmless, but can be annoying:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laestadianism

There's a lot of cults here but they're not harmless. Biggest 2 are Soka Gakkai who are orthodox Buddhists and run one or the bigger political parties.

The other is Happy Science which are basically Japanese scientologists.

I met some Mormons from Utah(?) some times ago but they aren't common at all here. Most polite people I ever met btw

Jehovah's witnesses are pretty much everywhere in Europe, but in low numbers and a lot less annoying than their American sitcom counterparts thanks to legislation and widespread secularism.

Romuva. Google them.

(I'm a French citizen studying in America)

Shit. I had hoped having the metric system would have proven a reliable vaccination against those.

Even as someone who grew up Mormon, this has confused me as well. The Star Spangled Banner and several other America songs are in the fucking hymn book, but mormon missionaries take the time to learn the native language and tell everyone that their indigenous culture is sacred even though America is the holy land.

It's worth noting though that Jesus in Mormonism was from the middle east, he just popped over to America for a visit or something.

bumpf

They started out as reactionary Catholics then basically became their own shitty religious cult, I think it's in decline now though. They also made heretical things like the real presence of Mary in the Eucharist part of their dogma.

Soka Gakkai, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Megachurches. we get the worst from East and West.

I met them trying to convert my indian (Hindu) dorm mate while I was at university. Wierdly enough they aim to convert non christians and leave us alone. They come from the states for this!

I hear those exist in america as well.

I see, that's pretty interesting.

Mormons have vaults and fallout shelters dug into the mountains around Salt Lake City. Other than that they're basically just really weird Episcopalians. They're generally decent people

Anabaptists(Amish, Mennonites, etc) are the ones on farms

They also aim to convert christians.
t. met them

They also believe black people are cursed and can never get into Heaven, and that you get your own planet when you die.

I hope you avoid getting shot

They even have a church over here. We have multiple protestant sects, catholics, jews and muslims yet they manage to find enough recruits to buy a huge church, impressive.

Also we have Jehova’s and Baptists which I really dont know how to feel about

stop sending asian mormon converts to my front door, you fucks

Mormons have been at war with the US federal government and are ready to do it again. Mormon church has guides on how to wage guerrilla warfare including DIY landmines.

I live in an area with a lot of them, they're fucking strange and are probably crazy.. and are starting to not even be white anymore

I didn't ask and I don't care

I’m pointing out why they are paranoid. In their early history they had wars with the US government which banished them to Utah

I wish. Literally all Americans I have ever talked to were preachers. Like you ride on a bus or walk to class in uni and some guy starts to talk to you about God. Like 5 different fucking times and all preachers. One was from Utah as far as I know. It's like the Northern crusades all over again.

This. Never seen friendlier people. I somewhat understand how people end up in cults now.

Panji Hitam dari Timur Empayar Langkasuka Nusantara, some weird guys who wander around jungle and dress up like ninjas trespassing national palace claiming to be successors of ancient kingdom and righful king of entire Malaysia.
Al Maunah, a crazy sect aiming to be kangz and infiltrated the military. Stole an entire shipment of guns resulting in the death of a soldier. Afterwards the cultists felt guilty about murdering the guy they surrendered to the military.
There is also an unknown chinese sect around, wandering the mountains wearing white clothes and worshipping the grave of the Yemeni sheikh who converted us to islam 5 centuries ago as well as the nearby ancient 2 millennia old animism temple.
Ayah Pin, some guy who claims he is ruler of a cloud kingdom and builds a giant teapot for worship.

nothing like them
don't even have mormons

Have "pagans" here too. They don't really trouble anyone and blend in with hippies.

besides a handful of protestant wannabies not really.
The biggest oddball is probably the "polish native church" ie neopagans which has like 5000 followers. Unlike american fundies they're completely harmless though, they just dance around the fires n sheeit.

i live a few minutes away from a mormon church, they're based lads tbqh

Only acceptable things to be here are Orthodox Christian, atheist or Catholics. Everything else is just weirdos. Think gypsies have some weird religions

intended to apply for a graduate program in salt lake city
got to know Mormonism from South Park
turned to another program in Colorado

I've seen Mormon missionaries running around plenty of times. They seem nice and polite and they've bothered me. My real question is, why are there so many Mormon missionaries? Why are they so ubiquitous and in every country?
