In other countries, like Norway, the backlash against the community has come as a result of our national atheist organization having taken the role of the Christian conservatives of the past. They're trying to dictate morals and eradicate any trace of Christianity in Norway. For the record, in Norway there is still a mandatory Christian mass that school children have to attend before Christmas, and all Norwegians automatically become a member of the Norwegian church at birth. Anyway, most people in Norway are either atheist or agnostic, and don't like the hostile tone the national atheist organization has taken, and want to preserve some of the Christian traditions, despite not being religious themselves.
In other words, most Norwegians are atheist or agnostic regardless of their political conviction. Only the atheists who use it as a tool for political activism are associated with the left.
