Blaming the Russians for not rebuilding the city in a Baroque style is a bit unfair. It wasn't really a priority considering that the entire country had been devastated. The Dutch built a near equally hideous new Rotterdam, but they don't get the same blame.

Don't know of a Polish city that was as destroyed as Stalingrad/Volgograd. There were a few big battles in Poland but overall not as prolonged or brutal as in USSR, nor were the bombings as bad as those against German cities by allies.
Where do you get the info that Poland had more cities destroyed than even Ukraine, much less all of USSR?

Warsaw was literally razed to the ground not just during the battle but systematically, house after house, EVERYTHING was destroyed, it wasn't even ruins, just an empty place in a formely thriving capital.

Warsaw is considered the most damaged big city in WW2 pretty much everywhere.

Gdańsk was also razed to the ground. Wrocław, Szczecin and Poznań were severely damaged. Only Kraków and Łódź were more or less intact.
