I was also thinking along these lines. I think Dragon Knight is probably your protagonist. I'd make the first film something like him trying to defend a city/world from Outworld Devourer. You could include flashbacks to his backstory, maybe a short affair with a supporting character Lina (who helps in the final fight). You could do pretty cool trippy scenes about Astral Imprisonment and include a weird weaver cameo or something.
