That's literally the most entrylevel possible.

Movie 43

...

meh, I just watched this on the plane the other day.
not so good.

Because you watched it on a fucking plane...

fuck this nu male propaganda film. there's nothing surreal about it either.

>there's nothing surreal about a society with a hotel that turns people into animals and where single people are forced to live in the forest

kek

Pastoral

I think it still would've had the same impact if i watched it in a theater tho

It's probably more absurd than surreal but "you, the living" is good

you dont know what surrealism means

you're describing dystopianism, not surrealism

>dystopias will have magic hotels with human to animal transmogrifiers

Watching that tn...

Do you, reddit spacing man?

stop turning defense of your shitty movie into a proxy war over what surrealism is/means

Sci-Fi/Fantasy =/= Surrealism

FWWM is my fave. 8 1/2 is a buddy of mine's favorite movie but I couldn't quite get into it for some reason. Zardoz is excellent and hilarious. The Trial is another really good one, if a bit blunt at times.

What is surrealism then, unnecessarily-padding-out-his-post man?

It's not exactly sci-fi/fantasy when the characters in the story takes the jarring absurdity seriously.

Saragossa Manuscript

Nanquest?

...

...

they made a movie about my dick size?

Waking Life

An absolute classic

why is Sup Forums such a horrible board? it's like you people don't actually watch any films at all

mass replying is a typical reddit trait

I wouldn't know

You just did

did what?

Your mom

good one

Your mom is the opposite of good

What happened to actually discussing film on the film board?

/film/ when?

Did this guy direct anything else of worth?

why are you so persistent in shitposting in this particular thread?

Why are you?

Surrealism relies heavily on shocking imagery, dreamlike settings and psychoanalysis. Juxtapositions etc. The Lobster wasn't really a shocking film at all, in fact I think it purposely normalized the situation at the hotel for the viewers. The story is linear and straightforward with a clear narrative.

If it were an actual surrealist film we would've seen some people be turned into animals, instead of just described the process. Also probably would've seen the main character stab his eyes out at the end instead of that cutaway shot back to the diner.

>t. Jodorowsky

>dat steam

PETA HATES him

Jacob's Ladder if it counts

yeah i can see why

Which one is this? I only watched El Topo and Holy Mountain

limp cantaloupe

I just googled it I can't find jack shit

actually I think he may have been one of the reasons for peta's creation

Waking Life is not a surreal film, it's more of a philosophical film, kinda like a Terrence Malick

Definitely not this one

I'm not watching that webm so thanks for the filename

I swore to myself years and years ago that I would never EVER watch a commercialized film or any film that contained the graphic murder of a real animal, this was after watching Cannibal Holocaust and realizing what I just witnessed

The only one I've seen where they kill a real animal since then is Apocalypse Now, which was graphic enough but not bad enough, and I enjoyed Apocalypse Now a lot

I'm always careful with these surreal artsy fartsy films, you never know

how do I better understand surrealism

Become a pretentious faggot

ITT:

>surrealism is indefinable fluctuations, alterations, and distortions of perceptions without limitations or requirements.
>only things I think are surrealism count!!!

Get into Hitchcock films they're much simpler

Bamp

>jodorowsky rapes an actress
>gets away with it

how, why?!

I've only seen Perfect Blue, what's his best? What should I watch next?

Dont even bother, Sup Forums is one one the worse boards in this site.
We need a /cine/.

>ywn spend a lazy Sunday watchin Fellini movies in bed with Ariane

Better for art than hunting

>Sup Forums doesn't read comics
>Sup Forums doesn't play vidya
>now i learn that Sup Forums doesn't watch movies

Perfect Blue is his best. Just watch Millennium Actress now and you can stop with his filmography.

lame antelope

wooden acting for forced quirkiness, the opposite of surrealism

I'd go with Rubber for a surrealist comedy, can't really thing of anything else
watch other Dupieux movies I guess but they're not amazing

buy a lobster telephone xD

>wooden acting for forced quirkiness, the opposite of surrealism
?

>Holding Branded to Kill

My nigger, it even fits this thread.
