Banning Human Drivers

So I guess this is the next big movement the left is trying to push. Any thoughts on this?

Personally, I don't think it will be achievable in the next 50+ years. Nor should it be.

Would make you too easy to kill. The AI for that shit has to be a "closed system." No internet access. The "AI" has to be on a ROM.

I'd prefer a machine driving me instead of Muhammad

Really?

I agree. Just think about emergency situations where Tyrone comes up beside your car at a red light with a pistol in his hand. You'd be completely at the machine's mercy.

Anything to get rid of traffic...

It's not going to be Lt. Commander Data or fucking a good T100 or Nick Valentine from Fallout 4.

Gotta be real. The computers driving the cars are going to be retards, not fucking androids with "positronic" brains.

Who wouldn't want a killer androids chauffeur bodyguard in the that situation?

A killer robot that could pop a half-a-dozen headshots in less than a second... fuck yeah.

Hello my friend, where are you wanting to go? 9/11 memorial?

Just drive yourself like a real American.

Tbh it will probably happen pretty soon, whether you like it or not

I don't see how anybody can justify the government forcing people to put their lives completely in the hands of private industry.

>dont ban alcohol
>dont ban cigarettes
it will never happen. sales tax from car sales makes up way too much of the total

No, but there will be campaigns trying to make drivers look like selfish pieces of shit, just like they did to smokers. Mark my words.

Seems like it will destroy so many jobs and reduce so much tax intake. Will we actually benefit from it and get reduced commutes and save a lot of money?

When you go to the mall to the designated drop off point will there be anger about old cunts taking a year to get in and out of their cars?

Look at how little we have benefited from current tech. We work longer than ever. You have to be rich to be middle class in a lot of cities.

It will probably happen it will just be pretty meh and sad because driving is one of the cornerstones of western culture.

Nu males will fap to porn in their auto cars. A lot of people will still want to have their private auto car.

>Look at how little we have benefited from current tech. We work longer than ever.

That's the fault of Capitalism

Driverless cars are OK but I'd rather invest in public transport and cycling

Yeah, no.

DUI fines, parking tickets, parking fees, speeding tickets, registration fees, court fees and fines.

The Government alone stands to lose a fortune to automated vehicles. There's no way they allow this to happen without working out how they still get their extra money from vehicles. That will take years on it's own.

Big business also has it's thumb in the pie: insurance, tires, oil changes, car washes, brake repair, glass repair and replacement, paint jobs, general maintenance, car stereos, dvd/blu-ray players and screens, camp and travel trailers; hell, even the companies who sell those PoS air fresheners.

They aren't going to give up that revenue without a fight.

Lawyers will have a lot to say about this as well, considering how many make a living off driving lawsuits and criminal cases.

Automated vehicles will start like the light rail experiments in our cities--overpriced, over-hyped pork projects that line some politician and his friend’s pockets.

When you call an automated taxi, it will arrive with graffiti, piss and sometimes shit on the floors and upholstery, garbage everywhere, and broken everything, just like any other public transportation niggers use.

Proponents claim that security cameras will catch the niggers doing that shit and they'll be sent to jail.

BULLSHIT. Those same proponents are the liberals who whine about too many niggers in prison right now for little things like burglary, armed robbery, home invasion, assault, rape, and murder. There's no way they'll allow their pets to be imprisoned for victimless crimes like destruction of property.

Add all this together with monumental infrastructure challenges like decentralized fleet charging stations and this won’t become a serious thing for decades, longer for rural areas.

Yes goy let us decide where you go.

cant wait to rent one with a fake id, put on mustache glasses, and fuck while driving

If that shit ever becomes the norm, I might consider buying a horse

This is dumb. Deaths in automated cars would be more suspect.

It's more a sick mix of socialism and capitalism. Bailing out the banks was more a leftist thing. The left still have a hard on for protecting them at all costs now.

>Banning Human Drivers

inevitable, but I suppose I should wish it never be banned, as I support it as a right like firearms. Objects/tools that man uses in almost an art. Think, a power-saw or kitchen knife could be abused, but why limit its consumption to "grandfathered" heirlooms. A fucking 1998 Toyota Corolla should not be the thing the American man should not need to fight to protect his right to operate for necessity or otherwise.
If a tier of operable car should appear, then I expect those whom agree to said rights should not heed the development of SUPERCARS that opperate on bullet train speeds operated only by A.I.
I mean, if THAT is going to be the new standard, then so be it. I don't expect the layman to operate at 3-400mph without risk to life and limb.
Motorcycles are fucking crazy enough desu, but yeah, self driving cars are coming m8s, just ask they be better than us, yes...but don't request your right to drive be taken away. Perhaps the development of a new infrastructure should appear, and the development of another path be made. Who knows, maybe it'll kill Eisenhower's highways...

A new dawn every day...

>Drive yourself
>New York City

Being this retarded.

They would just tax you. A driver less car tax.

Friendly reminder, 33,0000 people die per year in the United States from motor vehicles. :^)

>wake up
>leave cuckshed
>get in cuckpod
>travel to cuckjob
>get back in cuckpod
>go back to cuckshed
>can't kill yourself because everything dangerous is banned

s-so civilised!

That IS capitalism

Tens of thousands of people do it every day. Are you retarded or something?

It's here in the next five years.

>Less traffic without jams created by the way that humans drive naturally
>Fewer cars on the road now that cars can drive dad to work and then return home to later drive mom to the store
>lower fuel, parts, and maintenance costs
>insurance costs less
>cleaner air in cities
>cheaper freight
>fewer deaths

Only if the cars never ever crash under normal circumstances

Fuck these assholes. Just because they're incompetent cunts behind a wheel doesn't mean everyone is.

It'll be safer than trusting a person.

>jams are caused by the way humans drive
Only if a crash blocks the road.
Jams are caused by too many cars and shit roads

>I agree. Just think about emergency situations where Tyrone comes up beside your car at a red light with a pistol in his hand. You'd be completely at the machine's mercy.

That's a racist fantasy. I don't see that happening.

Look how scared this racist was when a young black man approached him at an impromptu roadblock.

youtube.com/watch?v=ClPZINVp0y8

It's not something they need to really ban, desu. Insurance companies would likely give much lower rates to self-driving cars and much higher for people still driving. If anything the self-driving cars will eventually (after the hype dies down) become the norm, whereas we faggots who actually know how to operate a car will become a dying beed (except for car mechanics obviously).

Steps:
>introduce self-driving cars into the market
>middle-class-fags get to sleep to work, lower-class-fags want
>self-driving cars = less risky = lower payments, especially on insurance
>non-self-driving cars = more risky = higher payments, especially on insurance
>poor-fags can't afford to keep old motor and can't afford to buy new one, so resorts to public transport (god have mercy on our souls)
>market wants to sell more self-driving cars, so prices fall
>poor-fags can eventually scrape enough to get to get a low-end model, but what-the-fuck-ever-just-as-long-as-it-drives-itself.jpg.png

desu famalamadingdongs, I wouldn't mind trading in my old motor for a self-driving one, even a shit one, because I only drive to commute, never for pleasure. I don't care the state of which my car's in, nor of the opinions of others regarding it. Just as long as I don't have to walk to work, I couldn't give two shits.

>public roads
Do whatever you want on toll roads, and private property, but government-owned roads have a responsibility to ensure as little death as possible.

You've been thinking a lot about this, haven't you?

Tough luck pickup driving faggot

This will be part of trumps legacy. I'm calling it now

Fewer crashes because no human error.

Also, humans suck at distancing themselves: youtube.com/watch?v=Suugn-p5C1M

>reduce so much tax intake

Scale is a bitch.
What happens when corporations whom assume responsibility for this new infrastructure only pay a pennce to the gov't for exclusive rights to commerce on such "roads"

people won't be to familiar to these roads, as with no reason to watch the road -which is smeared in a thick layer of ads- choose to sit in a self propelled box at high speed watching their favorite program.

Ah, they thought that sounded pretty swell in the 50's, but pitch this idea today, here's what people say. Look around you, this shit is coming. Why pave the roads for your dumbass? WHY? Ambulances, firetrucks, and you? They'll let you burn.

>private industry controls where you are allowed to go
B-but big government make me safer. :^)

In all honesty, I see automated cars as a great thing for the shitty drivers and old people who don't like or can't put effort into it. However, to ban those who wish to drive themselves entirely is just retarded.

You people don't fucking understand how difficult 100% automation actually is.

The only thing we'll see in the next years is likely automation is very specific, highly controlled areas like truck lanes on highways or parking garages.

Just think about how often your computer crashes, now imagine that computer in the hot, stressful environment of a car body. And you have no control if it somehow fails or the software crashes.

And things like looking out for pedestrians about to cross the road or dealing with construction zones, things that come extremely easily to humans, would be nigh impossible for current robotic technology to handle easily.

Maybe in 50 years we'll see full automation, but who can say.

Walking and tripping kills people every year. We need automated shoes that know where you're going at all times. The governments just doing its job to protect you. And make sure you're not doing anything illegal to boot ;)

Computers never crash

Sure bud

Sure

What jobs will be automated in the next 5-10 years?

>ban human drivers?
No. They will just make AI have much cheaper insurance rates because of decreased accidents. Human rates will increase. Within ten or twenty years, driving will be like wearing coats, ties, and top hats... Nothing stopping you - just not many people doing it.

I don't think you can read very well. Please note that I said 'private industry'.

The single role of the government in this case would be to ensure fair usage of public roads in the same sense we have now. No 'insert $5 to use the fast lane'.

We'll have a mix of real drivers and automated ones for a decade or so. You have plenty of time.

Crashes dont really happen in jams

I am a selfish piece of shit. I built a gas guzzling v8 and hoon around like a fucking bogan.
>Won't trade it for anything.

>computers never crash
i work in IT, and can, without any uncertainty, confirm that you're a complete fucking retard

>public roads
I meant what I wrote. If that private industry wants to exist, it has to abide by the rights guaranteed in a public sphere.

>When you call an automated taxi, it will arrive with graffiti, piss and sometimes shit on the floors and upholstery, garbage everywhere, and broken everything, just like any other public transportation niggers use.

had me till here, that shit is Motel 6, and it'll be phased out to the common man, he won't have to use it. Self cleaning cars are easy to imagine, and cleaning centers easier. If your pitching me a gov't automated mass transportation system i don't think you should pitch me a taxi.
Gov't transport = rails. Always. Visit /n/ sometime

>piss off hacker
>go flying off bridge

Great, so you agree with me on both points. Glad we could put this behind us.

The government does not build cars or their AI systems. Private industry is responsible for that. Are you telling me you want to live in a world where your life is completely dependent on a small selection of car companies?

My computer never crashed tou are proof the dumbs are dumb

Yes I'm sure everyone will have the money for a brand new robot car, The poor that use a clunker to get to work will have no problem at all buying a robocar to get them to shift at ShartMart

automation does not have to be perfect it only has to be better than humans to be a game changer

they want you to die before you can retire

Like we currently do with auto industry regulation? It's working just fine so far.

>We use to joke about banning assault cars
>"Ban driving"
Only in 2016 could this level of memery be achieved.

>Just think about how often your computer crashes

You're retarded. The powertrain of all cars is entirely reliant on a single computer that manages a large number of inputs in order to ensure proper combustion in most scenarios.

You are a retard

Don't worry, for those that won't, Uber and similar companies will drop in cost dramatically without the need to pay drivers.

>2040, New World Order open controls the ruins of the world
>remnants of the human population dot the wasteland of America, now inhabited by mindless, aggressive shitskins that aren't even intelligent enough to drive
>be white
>get in your car one day to go to work at the reparations center
>this isn't the way to work
>car locks you in, there's no escape
>you're taken to an automated extermination center
>call your family before you rollercoaster into the ovens, warning them to flee
>manual cars no longer exist
>your wife and daughter have no choice but to wait for a computer driven car to pull up to the curb
>they watch apprehensively
>doors open and several feral shitskins emerge
>get raped and beaten almost to death, and thrown in the car
>car drives them to the ovens
>shitskins live in your house

You get to choose what vehicle your drive in this country. If a car does not meet your safety expectations, you do not have to purchase it. In a world where the only cars you can pick take all power of your survival away from you, you have reached the point where your life is owned by private industry entirely.
Good argument, leaf.

Can't wait for these things to crash and kill people by the thousands during winter with black ice on the road.

Google and Elan Musk live in sunny Commiefornia and completely forgot about the road hazards of the rest of the driving world

Computer cars might reduce crashes if theyre good enough, but you need some really good roads for them to drive on.
Imagine taking a computer car to ondia or something, where everyone is riding bikes and shit around you, people cross the road without looking, cows on the road, people dont stop at red lights etc etc

>the left

Do you seriously think this fits on the spectrum? I honestly think having a self-driving car would be more efficient. I'm driving straight on paved lines most of the time. I'm boxed in these lanes, I switch lanes, I hop on and off the highway. Let the car do it, and have some regulations in place for privacy concerns.

>b-b-but people won't put up a fight if a company wants to stick tracking software there and send everything to the NSA
>Americans are weak and silly and no one would dare complain

The voices of traitorous unpatriotic cowards in this site, that's all I'm hearing.

It's already that way. I can't import a Russian Lada 4x4 because 1960's soviet mechanics don't meet US emissions standards.

>their lives completely in the hands of private industry

Maybe if the highlight and the epitome of your entire life is based off of what you do on public roads driving in lanes.

You're restricted as fuck. You're a train going a destination who thinks he's as free as someone driving their Jeep through the Serengeti.

A car ECU running firmware isn't at all comparable to the computers they have running self driving cars. The later is infinitely more complex and there are still occasional problems with the former despite being very basic in comparison.

searched this thread to made sure this had been posted.

you're doing god's work user.

>pic related
Your direction may be restricted, but you are still responsible for your own safety. If I die because of my error, that's on me. If I because of some company's shitty programming, then I'm mad as fuck and in hell.

Current roads are fine. An entire section of highway with fully automated traffic would be orchestrated like a symphony.

They already can detect people and intent. This was from two years ago, so it's already outdated with whatever they're working on: youtube.com/watch?v=TsaES--OTzM

This, there are too many variables on the roads around the world where a human override would be necessary. These things should only assist drivers and not completely overtake them.

This is not just an issue revolving around driving. It is instead about addressing another fundamental point of logic.

As machines evolved to simply become.... better.... they will be able to do tasks more efficiently, accurately, speedily, and safely than human beings can. This is a simple fact. The question then becomes this:

If a thing, charge, or task which was once in human hands can now be undertaken more efficiently, accurately, speedily, and safely by a machine.... should human beings even be allowed to play a part in the process? This applies to a whole host of things. Essentially, humans will have engineered themselves into obsolescence, having, by virtue of creating superior "beings," become retarded stepchildren that must be looked after by automated AI parents.... for "their own safety" of course.

How do we deal with this? Should human agency be restricted because we have built machines that can best us at everything? Are we really going to begin restricting liberty because we are not considered to incompetent to feed ourselves, clothe ourselves, transport ourselves or educate ourselves in light of just hope must superior our electronic creations are?

I vote no. If someone wants a machine to do the work for them, I support that right, as that is their business. However, when you show up at my doorstep and try to "relieve" me of having to care for myself, then you can fuck off.

I will not jettison liberty because a machine is "safer" than I am. Life implies danger. Living comes with risks. This world will NOT be turned into a daycare center under the guise of safety and security on my watch.

>The only thing we'll see in the next years is likely automation is very specific, highly controlled areas like truck lanes on highways or parking garages.
This.
For as wonderful as self driving vehicles are, I have yet to see one that could even remotely attempt something like this
youtube.com/watch?v=9shEixJNJHM
And aside from the fact that it's in the middle of traffic, that's not even that bad. There are hundreds of nightmare spots in dense urban areas for backing up big trucks. Most people just never see them.

its already easy to kill anyone through car malfunction.

they just cut your brakes while you're on the highway and they can do that now without a problem.

if anything computers will make it harder to kill someone because they will leave evidence in the hardware itself.

I am guessing the design of the driving mainframe would be comparable to something they use in modern fighter jets? Multiple systems controlling their designated aspects of thr vehicle instead of 1 pc doing everything, plus their "backups". But you are right on a point, even the most advanced electronic systems these days shit themselves for no apparent reason.

I finally have a chance to post this one.

That normally would be right, but I want the newest version of the 4x4, which is simply a new body and interior built on top of the 1960's internals schematic.

I actually have thought this for awhile, I don't think driving should necessarily be banned in our lifetimes but 30,000 Americans die per year in car accidents, that's far too inefficient for a common mode of transportation. I hope that we can transition into an automated automobile/self-driven automobile society working side-by-side together until it can be banned sometime maybe a century from now

Emission is the biggest bullshit. No idea why they came up with that shit in the land of the (((free))). The only reason I still live in SA is because the car laws are still very liberal, as long as the car meets a safety inspection, you can do what the fuck you want.

They'll have to pry my manual shift from my cold, dead hands.

Spoiler: You are the traffic.

Like i said, good roads.
But i wouldnt trust any automated car that couldnt handle third world driving. Those places really have ZERO rules and thats the flexibility an AI needs to drive

Automated cars will be fucking fantastic for the world. I can't wait until they become cheap enough for the common man. I'd shell out $30k for one. Imagine how much you can get done when you free up an hour of your time spent driving.

That's completely fine. The free market is a great thing. It's a problem, however, when you tell me that I have to buy one.

i want one so badly, but EU and especially German auto laws are fucking us deep.

>fusion.net/story/207965/driving-should-be-illegal/

Yes lemmings, let daddy government decide which roads you are allowed to follow, where you are allowed to go and what time you arrive.

How the fuck do these people not see the consequences of limiting the people's freedom of movement?

Since the mechanical bits are the same essentially, import a 1960's example and custom update the interior so it doesn't feel like a gulag.

But I enjoy driving.

someone else having control over my life is illegal

The topic is one of the control modules "crashing" due to heat. These units are specifically designed for the harsh environment and are extremely robust. Like with the PCM in most cars, failure will be extremely rare. What you have to worry about are the sensors. Sensor failure is the Achilles heal of all cars, but especially self-driving cars.

Driving is literally my least favorite activity. I hate driving for an hour to get to work, so I'd gladly go and buy an auto.

I don't think mandating that all cars be driverless is a good thing, but if everyone is in driverless cars, there would be far, far less deaths, traffic jams, and the death of the insurance kike industry.

Obvious globalist plot. It's the beta test version o f personalized monitored mass-transit, the futurist's wet dream since the 50's. None you retards saw Logan's Run?

Yeah a self driving car that repotrs your routes is super nifty guys
