STATEMENT BY PROFESSORS JEFFREY SACHS (Columbia University) & JAMES K. GALBRAITH (Texas University)
>“Greece was strangled by the creditors in 2015. We stand with Yanis Varoufakis and with the truth.” Professors Jeff Sachs (Columbia) and James K. Galbraith (Texas)
Thomas Wieser’s claim that Yanis Varoufakis and the Greek government of 2015 cost their economy 200 billion euros is ludicrous. As Wieser knows – because he was one of the architects of the policy – the Greek economy in 2015 was strangled by its creditors. The creditors inflicted severe damage from the first day: by undermining liquidity of the bank system, refusing to restructure the debt, insisting on harsh austerity, and most importantly and blatantly, refusing to negotiate or even brainstorm in good faith. The creditors’ measures were highly destructive for Greece, as even former German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble admitted. Schäuble told Varoufakis that, were their positions reversed, he would not sign! The creditors’ terms were not aimed to help Greece at all. We stand with Yanis Varoufakis and with the truth. We know that the Greek people have the wisdom to do the same.
believe it or not zizek had a nice take on it in his new book (one of them at least) the greek crisis was a test of sorts for eu, to see whether or not they would allow a system in which debt can be paid back by a progressive benefit to greece instead eu choose to make an example of greece but it also caused them to go past the point of no return and subject everyone (unlucky enough) to the same manipulative practices as the imf, but worse. and the point about schaube, supposedly he had offered greeks billions of euros for a grexit but the greeks wouldn't sign, they believe in the good version of eu where it would allow greece to recover, the greek crisis affirmed that eu is not a benevolent entity, it is one of the purest practicers of predatory lending though this shouldn't be a surprise but the greek government at the time was hopelessly and sadly naive however grexit would be much worse for greece even with the billions of euros this doesn't make eu evil per se, just exceptionally rational very machine like in the end it's not about fairness or growth of other countries etc, it's about the currency and supporting the the sources that gives its currency value, even if it means every country will be in debt forever

true fear is the glue that keeps this shithole of a """"union"""" together. the remainders of the e""""u"""" always resort to blackmail, theft and trade war in order to get their own.

Brandon Wood
it isn't resort to per se, that's just how it works because of how important the eu is for them it's probably better to think of it was a guarantee of liquidity in euro rather than some governmental organization
Christopher Kelly
He admitted that Greeks are lying bastards and makes only economic case for still paying money to these thieves, but the case is not only strictly economic.
Of course EU has enough money to pay Greeks, but what if Italians and Spaniards also decide that everyone else should just give them money. Then the Europe is fucked.
>Of course EU has enough money to pay Greeks lol, the e""""u"""" only bailed your corrupt and failed banks stupid die
Sebastian Murphy
Greece has had economic problems since the first manifestation of "economy". The first Greek ever somewhere in 3000 BC promised to give someone gold coins in return for some fish, yet failed to provide the gold and defaulted on his debt and sold himself into slavery. It's in your blood. It's not the fault of the EU you incompetent baboons.
Joshua Williams
was Trump stupid on declaring a trade war? should he just keep on virtue whoring like yuros and do the exact opposite in the background?

the funny thing is the syriza government asked to pay the debt back and eu said no, the debts will not be paid back it is not out of their unwillingness to pay back the debts, eu won't let them
one day you memers will understand this, i hope it won't take decades

thanks for bumping the thread come back anytime with your higher than though delusions
what is funnier is that they honestly believe an economy will produce a 3,5% and 2,5% surplus for 20-30 years. either they are that stupid or outright lying. they're obviously lying, as always >american will lose majorly don't think so, america can easily defeat the e""""u"""". China is the main opponent here. If Trump manages to block China e""""u"""" relations, the e""""u"""" is finished
greeks have been knows as lazy no-goods since the time of Byzantium

>muh banks
Greece is like a spoiled kid who takes a big loan and wastes all the money partying. Then his parents bail him out by paying the bank loan and Greece is screeching that he wasn't helped at all because the money went to the bank.
Dominic Jenkins
many slavs are stupid like this pseudo russian they are always jealous and have no clue about what is going on in europe
Connor Anderson
you're mistaken, when the the 2008 crisis erupted yuro banks went bust because they were lending without any restraint and guess what they were lending to everybody, not just us. Greece was the easy target because it defaulted. your corrupt banks were bailed through us Merkel bailed german banks twice, the second bail out was masked as the greek ""bail out"" it's the truth deal with it
