Platoon for the portrayal of the average soldiers life and the struggles that come with it
Black Hawk Down for the intense combat
Apocalypse Now/FMJ for the themes behind war and being a soldier
Das Boot
Come And See
Stalingrad
and Dunkirk
Come and See
Das Boot
The Train
Battle of Britain
Kelly's Heroes
Come and See is some kind of running gag, I saw it hyped the fuck out on several board many years ago, watched it and there was nothing to it. And people still hype it.
ALAAARM.
lmao just a prank happy april fools go back to your posts
Das boot is true kino.
>tfw spend an entire Saturday afternoon watching The Longest Day
Armadillo
You can tell it was made by guys who were in the military. Alot of others mostly deal with the story behind one soldier, or have no character development or they're overstylized, over the top with the phony virtuousness.
Not this movie, it gets it spot on. It's one of my favorites. Eventhough it's fictional it's also the most realistic
Dirty Dozen is great too.
same
...
Saving Private Ryan desu
DUNKIRK HAS ENTERED THE PANTHEON
LISTS WILL HAVE TO BE CHANGED
nah
Hacksaw ridge :^)
The Deer Hunter.
Pic related, Full Metal Jacket, and Apocalypse Now.
Nice pic!
Hamburger Hill - most realistic
Platoon - the characters
Apocalypse Now - the story
Apocalypse Now
Cross of Iron
Band of Brothers is better than any WW2 movie from the allied perspective
Generation Kill is better than any war in the Middle East movie
Come and See
Hacksaw Ridge
Deer Hunter
Good tension and good main character
>not worshipping the Tank God
>in 2017
shiggy dig
The Old Gun. Revenge kino with a WW2 backdrop.
Stalingrad, though it has a little too much German guilt.
De. Zhivago OS the best movie though
Das boot
Stalingrad
Apocalypse Now
The Thin Red Line
it's a good movie but you only watch it once and then start to forget about it
bridge over river kwai
a very long engagement
we were soldiers
band of bros rules all though
D U N K I N O
the scene of Farrier gliding past the cheering crowds of soldiers even as both parties know he is now doomed to be captured or crash makes it qualify for me
What do you guys think of "Generation War"("Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter")?
extreme self-flagellation
nurse was a qt
Wonder Woman
paths of glory
come and see
platoon
thin red line
dunkirk
the story about the two brothers and the nurse 8/10, the other two characters meh/10
It was better than I expected
Was Dunkirk really that kino? Feel like I missed out, going to have to catch it now.
No Particular order:
The Wild Geese
Force 10 From Navarone
The Big Red One
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
Black Hawk Down
Unironically Tae guk gi is probably the best war film ever made
...
Generation kill.
full metal jacket and black hawk down
Those shields doing much?
Big Red One 4 hour Director's cut is goat.
Hamburger hill>Platoon
I never see Flight of the Intruder or Siege of Firebase Gloria mentioned but they're my top picks.
The Great Escape
...
Such a good soundtrack
youtube.com
Zulu
Das Boot
Gettysburg
korean films tend to get too cheesy and long, but it's pretty good I admit
I mean apart from that part where he's eating that ice-cream its super solid man.
What's the one where they have the little hidey hole and they leave treats for each other? Kinda sweet
Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day and The Bunker.
was it good?
it has been years since I've seen these movies 2bh
maybe Joint Security Area? I don't know
It's The Front Line
Cute movie. Cheesy and too long like here though
Not my favorite but "our world war" was a fantastic world war one series. My favorite war movie is probably the thin red line.
Stalingrad was good because it captured the hopelessness of war, you felt as if you were sitting there in a frozen foxhole and nothing but another lamb to the slaughter
Dunkirk came close to replicating this but not quite, the lack of characters probably the main issue
it's decent, probably the best war film of the last 10yrs
...
>ON YOUR FEET MAGGOT
or did you guys mean only movies about real wars?
don't impi's get a bonus vs gunpowder units?
>entire thread posting BHD, SPR, and other meme generic top 10 imdb flicks
Nigger do you even /cinema/
The english subs available for this one are shit so I didn't watched it yet
Not much else captures the horrors of war on a civilian population, it's one of the only films that made me genuinely uncomfortable watching and I don't think it will ever be topped.
I think Das Boot portrays the struggles of a conscripted soldier against forces outside his control the best, and there are many films that have depictions of realistic combat and the effect of it on men and nature e.g. Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan, Lone Survivor, Paths of Glory, Platoon, Hamburger Hill etc
this is a pretty nice little thriller
>Not much else captures the horrors of war on a civilian population
Watch Lepa Sela Lepo Gore

Is this the one with zach galifinakis? Literal trash
la grande guerra
where can i find this big red one 4 hour directors cut senpai, know of any good links to help an user out?
Great film. Too bad it doesn't exists in blu ray
Sorry, i have a hard copy my dad gave me when i served in the 1ID.
lucky bastard
Dunkirk definitely doesn't belong on that list. I liked it well enough, but it was all style and no substance.
It's in the mediocre category, with Enemy at the Gates. Not good enough for the good category (Saving Private Ryan) but definitely not for the shit category (U-571).
The first invasion sequence was pretty cool.
Most theatres still have it in IMAX, don't let yourself miss it you'll hate yourself when you watch it later and realize how kino it is. Honestly Nolans best non-Batman movie, other than maybe memento or the prestige.
its about a guy who is trying to find a safe place to take a shit in for two hours
why didnt he land on the water close to the allied areas like his pilote buddy Collins did?
>look up das boot
>there's like 3 versions of the thing
what the hell do I get
Jarhead
Rogue One
Platoon is inaccurate garbage
>dindu nuffin
The whole mini series, all the film versions are just cut up from there.
But if you really insist on a film version then the Directors Cut.
One of the best cinema experiences of recent times.
I genuinely feel sorry for everyone who will watch it first time on their computer/TV.
...
that doesn't make the film any good. watched the cam version on my phone, it was shit
Painfully accurate.
Surprised that no one mentions Der Untergang. Not particular a combat movie, but historically I believe it was portrayed very good. My list:
1. Der Untergang
2. Das boot
3. Saving private ryan
4. A bridge too far
A Bridge too far is in the list because my grandmother was in oosterbeek during market garden and I also don't live too far from arnhem.
