I've actually made kvass before and it's not bad.

why not just make beer with the grains in the first place?

We have a similar thing, very low alcohol by volume thing, tastes pretty bland, people used to drink it like 50-100 years ago.
Nowadays people just drink American sugarwater like civilized human beings

Closest thing we got is boza, which is sweet and made from millet. Its Ottoman empire leftovers.

Very different taste.
Also beer is an alcoholic beverage while kvass only has trace amounts of alcohol and is a refreshing summer drink suitable for children

>american beer -> 3% alcohol
>lvas -> 1% alcohol

Not that different tbqh. Especially since american beer is sold in 330 ml packaging, while kvas is sold in larger volumes. So a portion of each is similar alcohol content.

Yes. Drink homemade Kvas long time ago

Store bought kvass has no alcohol. It's a soda basically.
Home made kvass can vary depending on how you make it.

R*ssia
Sometimes, also cold soup okroshka is best for summer (it's literally almost olivier salad with kvass)

>not making your cold soup with cucumbers, garlic and herbs out of a yogurt base

Not a lot of people drink it but it is sold in stores . I think it's alright

if okroshka made of kefir or similar fermented milk, it's still okroshka. i prefer kvass version, though, fermented milk okroshka too thikkk for me

How does it taste ?
How do you call it ?
What do youbit eat with ?
So you eat the fermented bread part ?
Do you cook it ?

What does it taste like?

Looks good.

Get that s4s shit outa here

It may sound disgusting but it tastes absolutely amazing. It's like cheese, you'd never expect it to taste good if you know how it's made

Thanks. I'm gonna try some at home

>is classified as a non-alcoholic drink by Russian standards, as the alcohol content from fermentation is typically low (0.5–1.0%).
Why would i drink that? CANT EVEN GET DRUNK

> How does it taste ?
Beer is the closest thing as far as taste goes
> What do youbit eat with ?
It's typically a refreshing summer drink, nothing particularly.
Theres however a cold soup made with it. More than one actually.
> So you eat the fermented bread part ?
No
> Do you cook it ?
You mean after its made? There's the soup and its the main ingredient, but otherwise no.

Tastes a bit like sweet rye bread. A little sour. It's often flavoured with honey, horseradish and/or rasins as well as a bunch of other possible recipes featuring anything from herbs to bananas..

Hey Bugar'
Have you heard of this drink btw?
It's called mushroom tea in Russia (aka kombucha)

Attached: images(7).jpg (259x194, 7K)

I have heard of it, but in the context of big health benefit claims that studies proved wrong. I've drank some bottled kambucha and it was meh.

Yeah I never liked it either.
The culture inside grosses me out

>Kvass is a traditional Slavic fermented beverage commonly made from rye bread
>the alcohol content from fermentation is typically low (0.5–1.0%).

yes and the best comes from Latvia

The one I had at a hipster restaurant was bottled and clean, there wasn't much floating inside. It was just not very interesting as a drink. I've had more exiting and original flavors by ordering weird import beers.

>kvass
>not podpiwek

birch juice(ants optional)

Apparently Burgers have started drinking it too.
Cultural appropriation at its finest.
