Now that the dust has settled, can we agree this was an awful season?

now that the dust has settled, can we agree this was an awful season?

I know Sup Forums loves to be contrarian... I remember how much you pretended to like season2 of True Detective

but seriously, this was a disaster, and I say as someone who was a fan of the original

it's time for Lynch to retire

Explain why in three (3) sentences.

haha i dont get it either bro

No, you're a dumb Plebbitor as evidenced by the fact you give a shit about True Detective.

>but seriously, this was a disaster, and I say as someone who was a fan of the original

That's like saying you're a fan of the Sistine Chapel you fucking pleb

Thank you I have been pointing out that people which claim to understand it can't even explain it it's pathetic

>Sistine Chapel
Lynchfags truly are delusional, self-important douchebags

>now that the dust has settled, can we agree
when the fuck has anyone here agreed on anything
no

>tfw didn't listen to Sup Forums and watched and enjoyed LYNCHkino in peace

that's not my point ya dimwit

Go back to Plebbit. You don't understand Art. Lynch is an auteur.

If you didn't study film or at least read a few books on surrealist painters, you cannot penetrate into Lynch thicket of symbolism. It's too dialectical.

I fully expected to get LYNCHED hard so I got through the lack of wholesome pie and coffee alright, but what I didn't expect was for how few parts actually took place in Twin Peaks.
Why did the dimensional experiment scene have to be in New York? Why couldn't it be in Twin Peaks as a successor project to Major Briggs work? Maybe it was part due to the 90 trend but I love the interior design in Twin Peaks so much, especially the Sheriff Station and the Great Northern, all these locations in Las Vegas and South Dakota were not comfy at all.

only people that defend it are the ones that use "kino" unironically to describe things

But it was great.

Can't say it was awful season. It was perfect return to world of twin peaks and it left me with a very bleak feeling

it was a pretty comprehensive 'fuck you' to the audience, i can appreciate the subversion.
the occasional info dumps were terrible, though.

yeah I loved it causue it was so random XDD
didn't understand a lot but I love randomness cause I'm random too xD

>it was a pretty comprehensive 'fuck you' to the audience, i can appreciate the subversion.
So brave.

I think s3 will be remembered like s2, neat moments and some neat episodes but mostly droll boring trash with an interesting ending

You sat through the world of painful brainless shit, two seasons of True Detective, and you dare say Season 3 of TP is awful?
Jesus Christ, you're an idiot.

I feel like this entire season was one giant fuck you from Lynch to Showtime for making him direct and for giving him 18 episodes

This
From the long scenes of nothing happening or pointless smalltalk, to the Flash-tier special effects

Episode 8 is the only one he cared about

To everybody wanking over wildly different interpretations:

You are nothing but rabid fanatics, trying to preserve the illusion that this is some work of genius. The irony is that, the more you try and dissect it, the more you expose it to be a worthless piece of art which entirely failed to transmit any proper, meaningful feeling to its audience.

"The assertion that art may be good art, and at the same time incomprehensible to a great number of people, is extremely unjust, and its consequences are ruinous to art itself; but at the same time it is so common and has so eaten into our conceptions, that it is impossible sufficiently to elucidate all the absurdity of it" - Leo Tolstoy

Are you me

How is directing 18 episodes a fuck you to the channel that hires you? You're not making any sense.
Lynch is one of the last creators in cinema and tv, the rest are good filmmakers, yes men or straight up awful directors.
Go watch other spoonfed tv shows where everything is lined up for you from the very first episode.

Because he only wanted to write and only had 8 episodes at first then they gave him 18

It's really painfully fucking obvious how much he had to stretch the budget and content to fit that shit

No

Wrong. Critics love it

Coop. Coop. What year is this?

I'm only 4 episodes in but it's not nearly as entertaining as the original. I was really excited to start this season too to see what happened with all the characters from the original.

It sucks that the original Harry isn't in it, hate re-casts.

My only real disappointment with the finale is that the blind girl was just a placeholder for Diane all along

That's so fucking stupid and underwhelming

Unless her turning into Diane is just a trick from Judy to lull Cooper into a false contentment and trap him in an alternate false reality

>painful brainless shit
but that perfectly described this season of TP, senpai

>muh brain-tree
>muh green glove punch
>muh ring

Tolstoy underestimated just how stupid the general public is

>being this much of a projecting brainlet

No.

wait.. she... turned into Diane? Why?
I watched and didn't get that
LMAO what a shit show

Lol no they don't

Just look at the ratings, fucking nobody watched s3

That's not even true fuckhead. He wanted 18.

Tolstoy was a hack. War and Peace is hot garbage, and I read the original in Russian.

It was ok. Better than the original.

THIS

>The irony is that, the more you try and dissect it, the more you expose it to be a worthless piece of art which entirely failed to transmit any proper, meaningful feeling to its audience.

That's not ironic in the least, and David Lynch is not a director that ever directs anything with a clear story. If you go into it with the mindset of
>what does this mean, oh does this mean something
you are on a very base level of understanding. This is the way they taught you to think of art in school.

Lynch works with ideas, some ideas leads him to new ideas and you have to experience the result not analyse what the red wig meant, or find the symbolic meaning in what Jefferies said. That is you working against art, and then irony becomes valid again because then the irony is on you for not getting the joke.

Read the reviews. And showtime said it got them tons of new subscribers. You're gonna get BTFO during the AMA with the exec producer

Well it would have been much better if it was 8.

There's a good reason s1 is much more fondly remembered than s2, and s3 had the same problem with story padding that s2 has

>I didn't get something that was clearly demonstrated in the show
>I'm definitely not braindead, the show is shit!

So what is the result of Diane having red hair then

BTFO

Everything I've seen has indicated Showtime considering it a financial disaster

So your saying he just throws whatever ideas he has into the show with no sense to it whatsoever?

Nevermind how many "ideas" he constantly rehashes throughout his films

Wow what potent "art"

She just has red hair man. If you think about it you are dumb. I am very smart and I know better than to think about it. The true talents of Lynch are wasted on brainless trash like you. Go watch Game of Thrones if you want to distract your brain from true art and feeling nd leave Lynch works to us smart enough

Oh yeah bud? Why don't you post some links? Google twin peaks the return subscriptions

See, society has trained you to be a symbologist and analyst. You crave meaning and answers for others and have learned to throw away your own intuition.
A society worthy of anything should teach its people to be formalists.

Tell me what that meant to you, that's what important here. When she had red hair, how did that change your view of what was happening to you?

Ergo, David Lynch is a bad artist.

Perverted art may not please the majority of men, but good art always pleases everyone.

Please tell me, how have Lynch's "ideas" enlightened you in any way? What have you taken from those 18 hours that you dedicated to this piece of "art"?

Anyway, I didn't "analyse" any of it. I didn't watch a single Youtube video, I didn't read the stupid book (because I am an ordinary person who doesn't dedicate great portions of his life to useless material) - and guess what I got out of it? Jack shit

>Ergo
Concordantly

The entire show is about clinging to the past.

The ending is the deathly scary realization that the past is gone. People get cancer. People get old. They get replaced. And you can't save anyone from death.

>Muh society

Anyway, if "society" has trained me this way, then wouldn't a good director avoid anything that might prove to be a useless red herring?

Ok, let's agree that the red hair means nothing. What about the series as a whole then? What is everybody, without fail, who watched this show, meant to take from it? What is important here?

>Please tell me, how have Lynch's "ideas" enlightened you in any way?
Yes they have.
Twin Peaks: The Return made think about the ghosts of our movements and how we sometimes can trap ourselves in our communications with our surroundings.
I thought about how our fears can manifests themselves into beings that have the potential to damage others.
I thought about how if we fall in love with our ideas they can lead us to new ideas but if we fall in love with us having ideas it will stagnate and we will never receive never ideas.
Do you want me to go on?

It means absolutely nothing

I don't think any of that shit you spouted has anything to do with the show.

None of the fears form the lodge spirits, it's the other way around, they fuck everything up to cause misery and fear

That's a pretty "dude weed lmao" tier comment

>meant to take from it? What is important here?
You are meant to take from it what you put into it.
You shouldn't ask others what to take from it, you should tell others what you took from it and what you contributed to it.
A work of art never ends, and now that you have watched it you are a part of it. So you should also rather tell others what the work took from you and what it gave back. Obviously you are somehow pissed off because you felt you deserved something and you will never learn anything from life if you don't understand the things you were given.

Its alright to be pissed off, to be mad. But give us the reasons why. Not just intellectual bullshit about how there was no symbolic meanings or answers.
Where is your anger or disappointment coming from? Not from what you thought would be there but from what actually is there.

Lmao.

These conclusions are derived from an interpretation you have taken from the show. Not only are they super specific and basically meaningless, but also, CLEARLY do not represent the conclusions taken from viewers as a whole.

Stop praising obscurity.

2deep4me

>taken from viewers as a whole.
There is no viewers as a whole. Its you and whomever you are talking with.
This isn't game of thrones were someone does something or kills someone to get the throne.
Its all about how you, as one viewer, experienced the work of art. If it did nothing for you then it did nothing, but that says nothing about the work of art and everything about you.

>art can never be shit ever because it's just like, your opinion, man

A good work of art shouldn't piss people off. I already told you I took nothing from it because it was incomprehensible, full of loose ends and red herrings, and impossible to distinguish meaningful from meaningless.

A small portion of perverted individuals, I'm sure, will force themselves to take something meaningful from it to suit themselves and justify the time they gave to it, but there's another, much larger portion of people, no less important, that will come away from art like this feeling frustrated and disappointed. You are right - it is alright to be pissed off at this kind of art.

Art should justify its existence. The labour, the money, the importance attached to art is precisely why it should aim to transmit to its viewers' feelings which are good and serviceable for man.

That's bullshit though because all your conclusions about ghosts and fears are all derived from your own logical explanations or interpreted meanings of the show

You're doing the very thing you're saying not to do

Actually, when a sizeable portion of people feel the exact same way, then it very clearly does say something about the work of "art"

Art can be as shit as you want but if you want to be taken seriously learn to tell me why art is shit based on something else besides
>it didn't have any symbols or things I can analyse
Tell me why it was shit deep from the things that moves you.
If the acting made you physically unwell or the dialoge made you laugh in the not-good-way.
Don't be a simpleton here, everyone has the capability of more than that. I refuse to believe you took nothing from S3 if you watched all of it.

Most of the acting and dialogue just made me think "this is fucking boring"

The feeling I get watching Norma talk about organic ingredients and diner franchising for 20 minutes made me think "why the fuck am I not watching another show"

Shit like episode 8 is fucking cool. If the whole show was things like that I would agree with you. But must of s3 is fucking nothing.

OP here.
I just realized that I just watched 17, not 18
I thought 17 was the ending LMAO
I'm not even kidding

were there 2 episodes released i none?

So, why don't you watch an other show....for some annoyed viewers, you sure take a long time to stop a show. You even watch the whole season and then complain about it.

>it was incomprehensible
bad things happen
>and impossible to distinguish meaningful from meaningless.
why distinguish?
> from art like this feeling frustrated and disappointed
because these people are so conditioned never to feel and are so dependant on what others feel for them. They need to be told exactly what they experience. They need to see an old man in a sunset so they can be told that it symbolises the man soon dying, its an intellectual pursuit of art, when art is the most personal experience in the world.
People have no trouble expressing which people they want to fuck and how they want to fuck them but ask them how the art they experienced affected them while they experienced it and people will shut down. As if they have been conditioned to not be allowed an opinion on that aspect of life.

People will give you trip reports or tell your their crazy dreams, but they never dare to dwell into how sitting in front of a screen and watching something they thing have no meaning really affected them.
Thats cowardice. People are afraid to be formalists and long for the judeo symbolic teat to suckle on.
They will blow their brains out over maudlin and kitsch shit but never dare to bring to the campfire what they saw in the forest.

who was the green hand punch man who killed the floating ball rapist in floating in air?

jesus christ what a shit show

it's like a really bad B movie

Hoping it would get better, and it did right around do 13 or 15 or s
But that still leaves everything other than 8 as pretty droll boring bullshit

I liked it but lmao please stop and don't post again you are reinforcing the image that the audience for this guy is fedora tipping pseuds

So tell me about you and boredom.
What is boredom to you, how does it influence your body when you are watching something and 'boredom' starts creeping inside your inner thoughts.
Do you become more aware of your body. That you are wasting your time, does your mind starts dwelling to the places it should rather be, the things you should rather do.

I beg to differ. Your analysis is too superficial.
TP is an artistic reflection on ontological incompleteness; read Žižek's work.

Please explain more. If I wanted a rambling leftist I would go to Chomsky.

Žižek is the Richard Stallman of Socialism.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Are you praising obscure symbolism which fails to transmit anything concrete to its viewer? Why?

It makes me think fuck you there is no way it's a desired effect of the show

All I could think of is that it would be better if it was 8 episodes.

>I'm supposed to be bored for 80% of the show
is fucking stupid, and you don't actually believe that pseudointellectual shit you're spouting to try to justify it

Lynch had to stretch a shit budget and an 8 episode story over 18 episodes. It is that simple. You trying to evaluate it as intending to make you think about boredom, is literally you forming a meaning or justification. Which you are saying not to do. You are an idiot hypocrite.

Žižek is boring to me. All he does is to find analogies in contemporary works to the philosophies of his heroes. He is nothing but pastiche and he wants contemporary discourse to be pastiche.
If we don't break out of the intellectual discourse then everyone loses the cultural war. Formalism enables us to reinforce our own language, it also reinforces us to never be harmed by criticism so that we can freely dictate and form our own individuality.
With Žižek individuality is at the threshold of its death knoll, and the communists win.

Yea, fuck off

Fuck symbolism, fuck it up its stupid ass. There are no symbols for you to interpret, there is only the work, the form of it to experience.
And if you are like this guy the work was boring.
If you are so jaded by the world you live in that you don't even find the fact that you spent 18 hours watching something boring, and all you can say is
>I'm supposed to be bored for 80% of the show
is fucking stupid, and you don't actually believe that pseudointellectual shit you're spouting to try to justify it
Then why even bother watching something.
Reclaim the fucking time and life you have here. Become a navel gazing narcissist that is amused by the fact that the show was 80% boring instead. Thats far more interesting to you, me and everyone else.

I did not find it boring. I was moved and sometimes creeped out. At parts of it I watched my dog that had to have her uterus removed and that also affected my viewing of it. I don't care what it meant, I care that it was something that happened, to me. Regardless of what Lynch did or did not.

...

1. Plot doesn't go anywhere, too many unresolved issues.
2. Characters appear and disappear without a trace, their arcs don't go anywhere either.
3. Show spends too much time on useless shit like sweeping the floor ratehr than tell the story.

Can go on forever.

If anyone is the narcissist it's you, pal. Formalism justifies meaningless "art" and highly personalised interpretations. It is a circumvent way to protect wasteful material like Lynch's new series, which in reality, has alienated a great majority of the people who watched it, and entirely failed to transmit anything meaningful to them.

Sorry I don't have a sick dog to help me appreciate the form of this television show!

Yes I tip my fedora, tip tip tip tippy tip. I am a reddit tip tip tap tap I also tap dance tap tap tap. Fedora and tap dancer shoes gives me good gold on reddit. On reddit we love discussing pseudo intellectually about the meanings of movies so we tip our fedoras to each other and praise Richard Dawkins (not god) and Bill Nye the Reddit Guy. tap tap tip tip fedora tap dance shoes.

Lynchfags are the fedora tippers. Watching a shitstain on the wall and pretend it's art just because Lynch made it.

Yes, I am a narcissist. I employ everyone to become one. If you don't fall in love with the ideas that come to you and the experiences you have, if you don't fall in love with your anecdotal evidence in front of you.
If its boredom or the sickness of a dog, whats life then?
I'd rather someone tell me exactly what boredom does to them than hearing it was boring therefore bad. Because boring = bad. The jews win the more we empower their language.

Sounds like a show that accurately depicts real-life

I enjoyed it. I watched the first 2 seasons during their original run, for me it was well worth the quarter of a century wait.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my film class at the American Film Institute, and I’ve been involved in numerous indie movie and art house projects since the 90s, that has been viewed by over 300 accredited film critics. I am trained in mise en scène and I’m the only person still able to operate a Kinetoscope in the entire US. You are nothing to me but just another entertainment consumer. I will critique the fuck out of your top 10 film list and demonstrate to you that your taste is pedestrian, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my contacts at Cannes and your RottenTomatoes profile is being reviewed right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. Not only am I extensively trained in cinematic history, but I have access to the entire film library at the Scarecrow Video in Seattle which I will use to demonstrate you know nothing about cinema, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it

die formalist scum

the most American post ITT

Don't be silly.

I like this variation of this pasta. Saved.

8 was definitely the best. That is when the season warmed up on me.
