How the hell has Archie lasted so long?

How the hell has Archie lasted so long?

Drinks the blood of sinners

The same way Garfield did.

Its the most vannila hunour ever and appeals to everyone of all ages of all eras. Its so bland it sticks around

STRONG CHRISTIAN OVERTONES!

Shit taste is eternal.

The comic or the company?

Timelessness

Yeah, how do you think capeshit has managed to stick around for so long as well.

Back when Spire Christian Comics had them, but all the pinup artists drawing for the Betty & Veronica and Josie series beg to differ.

they are entertaining stories and you don't need to know much about the characters to read it, they are good to pass time.

Tell that to Dan DeCarlo

here's where it started it all

>What, Me Worry?

The comic.

So much that the company renamed to Archie Comic Publications from the former MLJ Magazines after WW2.

To say nothing of yuro"comics"

...

Grocery Stores.

By being awesome!

Archie vs Predator was insane.

...

They have been pretty consistent about repackaging old comics into annuals and trades. They are quite good at it and it probably helps a lot to keep them afloat.

They also hold a strange special place in American pop culture, perhaps not as overt as Batman or Superman, but still a highly recognizable part of our pop culture.

Plus, they had a truly great talent in Dan DeCarlo, I would argue as good as most any comic artist.

Archie maintained its status quo for the majority of its existence, making it accessible to just about anyone.

...

...

...

They sell comics outside of comic shops, for one thing

Anyone know when's the release date of the next Afterlife with Archie?

...

Who wore it better?

Three words: Betty and Veronica.

Supermarket distribution and a constant stream of new young readers.

Teen sex drama with colorful cast of characters to appeal to everyone, i.e. Jughead.

You're retarded if you think Archie isn't about pure teen sex. It's a classic self-insert. What's Archie's character? He doesn't have one, he's the reader. And Betty and Veronica and Sheryl are all just CRAZY about him even though he's a stupid ginger punk.

That's the fantasy, you simpleton.

I don't get how people somehow miss that Archie is the progenitor of the harem genre in comics.

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.

>Archie Andrews
>christened Archibald
>he hates Archie
>call him "Chick"
Why would you make a main character that hates his name, and then make that name the name of the comic?

Holy shit, Jughead is amazing.

Archie has next to no backstory to learn, is bland enough for kids but suggestive enough for older readers, is aimed at both sexes instead of just guys, can recycle old material seamlessly with new, and is readily available at supermarket checkouts for impulse buyers. The real question is why better known capes or Mickey Mouse don't imitate this model.

It doesn't sell THAT much at supermarkets. They stopped publishing sale numbers a few years back, but it was 30-40k per digest back then. They also have to pay for that space at supermarkets. Also returns are over 50% of what is sent out. So that's a lot of additional cost. Marvel and DC don't want to deal with that, as each comic sold in the direct market is a sale and non-returnable (usually).

Jughead doesn't give a shit.

It still means Archie Comics exists and people know it exists. Every other comic company lives at the comic shop, or is dead.
