Does anyone on Sup Forums actually participate in the film industry?

Or are we like /lit/, a coterie of passive observers, forever condemned to meme, shitpost, and circlejerk over a non-participatory medium from a distance in perpetuity?

plenty of people on /lit/ have published work

guess you're not one of them though

I am a recent grad, working as an independent film producer

I make amusing signs in The Simpsons backgrounds.

I've done VFX, Animation as well as Producing on a ton of films and television.

Ask me anything.

Literally no one on /lit/ has published anything of note (Amazon self publishing doesn't count).

di some commercials for local companies after graduating

now i work for a large ad company.

my dream of making my movie is quickly fading, but oh well.

I'm an aspiring actor but I live in a terrible place for it and don't come from that kind of background so I have a long road ahead.

For now I'm starting acting classes and seeing where that goes.

can i work with you?

keep keeping it real Emma.

anyone in the philadelphia area?

Sure, what would you like to do?

What steps did you take to get there?

Yeah I sell pirated dvds at the subway, 1$ each or 5 for 3$ bucks

somebody said yesterday that he wrote the script for the conjuring

I used to sell blow to a couple of people in the industry when they would spend time in the South Florida area before I got arrested. I also was an uncredited extra in Bad Boys 2. Does that count?

Aspiring screenwriter stuck in the middle of the rust belt. Working on putting together a "decent" portfolio with some spec scripts, pilots, etc to shop around with whenever I make the trip to that festering wound of LA.

Nick Land doesn't count.

Nope. Wanted to be when I was a youngling, even studied film production in school. God what a waste that was.

That said I wish I got on the youtube train when it was blooming and I wasn't as lazy as I am now, since that's pretty much what I always wanted to do growing up but I felt forced to try and make shitty "proper" movies instead and it kinda killed my love for making stuff.

Well I still and always have loved editing stuff, that's always been the highlight for me. The filming is boring as fuck.

None really, had no interest in the industry growing up, got a degree in Civil Engineering, just lucked into a 3D gig in animation and my career snowballed from there.

Sneedy Sne Sne, come back!

producing/acting/can start as a PA, have a place I can send my resume?

Im a sag-aftra actor.

there's someone who works on the set of riverdale who pops in the threads occasionally and answers questions

user most people here don't even watch movies anymore, let alone participating in making them.

Why cant I get a girlfriend?

I was always on the main cast of my elementary school plays, does it count?

How did you get in?

I'm a screenwriter, just not in the US. Not as horrible as it was made out to be tbqh though I'm a big fan of soap operas and Hughes-esque teen romance stuff which helps alot since it's 50% of market.

>producing/acting/can start as a PA

Forget PA work, way too competitive and almost 100% "friend of friend" hires.

People won't even consider you for a junior or associate producer job until you've got 5+ years of industry experience.

As for acting, they're almost always a "x would be perfect" hires, network and go for literally any gigs that will get you mingling with people in the industry.

...what you should be looking at is the fringe, technical/logistical/managerial roles within the industry, the boring ones that no one cares, or even knows about, the ones that employ ugly, ordinary people with zero aspirations but bills to pay, THOSE will be your ticket in.

Closest I've ever done is theatre. I like being on stage, but to seriously pursue an acting career, I'd need to move. And I don't think acting is something I'd really chase. I'd sooner do music or writing.

>Why cant I get a girlfriend?

You lack charm, intelligence, looks or money.

I worked in art direction for The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Transformers until I left Hollywood and the film world completely.

working with team making low-budget CGI. if you see CGI at lets say Sharknado level or bellow that, this is pretty close

Any tips on networking? As an extra, I've just met other extras who don't have much acting experience either. I live in the Atlanta area if that helps.

Best advice is to get started as a PA on indie films. Hang around film schools and look for signs posted up on billboards looking for help. Many of the people you work with will go on to work in the industry.

Most producers dip into their intimate friend / friends of friends network for new projects.

I work consistently in voiceovers and have done a few episodes of tv and some film.

It's Jughead himself, dummy.

He and his twin are both old-school Sup Forumstards

Are most people on Sup Forums mangakas from Japan? Are most people on Sup Forums professional athletes? Are most people on Sup Forums musicians? Is /vp/ a board for GameFreak employees? Does Stallman shitpost on Sup Forums?

Thank you for answering. What does a PA do? Do I need to have any experience in that?

i make music for indie films

How would someone even start to look for roles within the industry if they don't have connections?

Did you go to an acting school?

The first and last time I went to /lit/ was when AbaTap made a thread and trolled the shit out of them with the Avatar novelization, it was probably 7 years ago.

A PA does all the non-technical bitch work.

I'm a film critic.

By looking at job listings?

What's the point of asking the question if you're going to back pedal and move goal posts rather than confront the fact that you have no idea of what you're talking about.
Ive worked on production of a few very small indie movies, as well as a steady gig voice acting over seas in the late 90's, as well as being a published author. But I guess none of that counts according to your fat contrarian ass.

Basically you have to move to New York or L.A.

I don't know you, but I'm proud of you, user. Are you still working ?

yes

>I live in the Atlanta area if that helps.
Just check for casting calls, all the fucking time, and take literally everything you can get. You might even consider shopping for an agent.
There's also a decent theater and film program at georgia state (my baby sister is alumni and was involved in theater production all over the city).

Move to LA or NY. Google "auditions/casting calls." Go to every single one you can. You'll only have maybe 30% available to you and zero big roles but your goal is to build a resume/make a demo reel. Once you have that, send it to every legitimate talent agency you can. Don't fall for scams; legit agencies only make money off of commission. If you have to pay to join, it's a scam. Then once you have an agent, it's a matter of paying your dues and making connections until you get your breakout role.

Above all, don't get discouraged. Filmmaking is not a meritocracy. Insiders give roles to other insiders regardless of talent. It will take you years if not decades to break in.

sup my fellow kang

>What does a PA do?
All the bitch work you can think of. If you've ever worked a job with a "go-for" it's pretty much that. But you also liase with all different aspects of production in the process, so you get to build relationships with people.

>Are you still working ?
Nope, not in the industry anyways. Settled down with a more mundane job. It was always just a flight of fancy and I was lucky enough to know a few people who needed help.
You hit a wall and you have to decide if you want to put the effort for a hyper competitive industry, or focus your energy on other things.
Voice acting is something I'd be really interested in getting back into though.

>consume and show off in order to be sophisticated

>Move to LA or NY
You'd be better off going to atlanta, toronto, or vancouver, where most stuff is filmed. They usually cast minor roles locally.

Thank you for the advice, anons.

I used to work as a Location manager for several years. Recently I've begun taking jobs as Unit Production Manager and 1st AD.

Not in Hollywood, although I have worked on Hollywood productions.

im currently doing vfx and want to get into the industry any tips about to start second year university.

Also just to add im a lot older than my peers and usually have the bettr ideas have you got any tips for working in groups, because right now i get fully tilted when people suggest stupid things i really like the cinematic feel and realism in theings with depth but these kids are just not on it

I wish we were more like /lit/. /lit/ actually takes an objective interest in things and discusses them to depth without even bothering to acknowledge commercial garbage.

tfw when I was a kid a teacher told me that I should be an actor (I was an overacting liar), and the more I grew up, the more I notice that I am going to a real pretentious villain with strong motivations.

>tfw no qt kkk gf to hang niggers together

not kkk, just a spanish traditional holiday

There's that porno scriptwriter that browses here, the one who wrote Meme Lovers

B-List Hollywood actor here.

Hint: I'm a big guy

John Cena?

No, I'm actually on the visible spectrum

B-batista?

No, I still have hair

Do you have to live in LA or NY to do what you do?

I'm slowly working my way up to actually making something of actual worth. Till then, toiling in the seedy underground world of poorly edited/lit one minute youtube videos I shoot by myself wherever I can.

Speaking of which, just finished editing this today. I'm actually kinda proud of it, despite everything.
youtu.be/PXTyVZ7Wal0

Used to do work for indie films. Fell out of it when my mother died and had to get stable work.

HEy Thor!

If you're here, Belarusian Psycho is straight kino

We are going to need another hint.

I'm a semi professional videographer who makes short films. Does that count?

Is the money good?

No I went to films

For someone living in Chicago (who plans to move to LA in a year or two), what are some good jobs to put on the resume in the mean time?

Are you a big guy?

>chubby nonwhites

pro tip: if you want to get into the industry you should think about adding -berg or -stein to the end of your name

I don't work in film but I mainly browse /o/ and /ovg/ so I'm happy to say I entered a rally near me and placed 6th in my class so far, season isn't over yet
>tfw you just want 3 more places so you get just enough money to invest in an impreza and do better next year

for you

I "worked" in the porn industry some years ago, does that count?

what do you need to enter a rally? can i just go with a beat up subaru n sheeit?

>blow
how prevalent is this?

also, how did you get caught?

Shoulda been on World Peace

Do you think he'll return to us with Avatar 2? Also is there a collection of his posts somewhere?

Very prevalent. I would say like a solid 40% of film folk do blow or some other hard fucking drugs. I mostly served their assistants and shit. I don't feel too comfortable naming names but, there's one celeb in particular that when I was told that the shit was for them I couldn't believe it. People used to make threads all the time about her.

I got ratted on and set up by a friend. Ironically enough he is still in prison and I'm on probation since it was my first offense.

Whether any of these writers are actually good is another discussion, but there are famous published writers who use /lit/

At least I'm not a woman

Screencaps?

I was the director of some documentaries for an ONG
Also the comic I co-wrote is being publish this month.
I'm going to start film school next month, hopefully I get to work in a big project.
