He lost because of Near's deus ex machina magic knowledge of X-Kira's true identity

>he lost because of Near's deus ex machina magic knowledge of X-Kira's true identity
Lame.

Even the original writer wasn't happy with the ending. He knew light had to die but he spent all this time building him up to be unbeatable he didn't know how to do it well.

Wrong board.

Near won because Light fucked up.

Read the manga, tardlet. Near deduced it was Mikami when he kept showing up on every single show and saying "Tell me what to do, Kira". The anime fucked it up.

If by that you mean that he put too much stock in Mikami or didn't anticipate him taking action regarding Takada, then you're right. His plan would have worked perfectly if Mikami hadn't gone to get the real notebook at any point.

Well, there's the theory that Near manipulated Mikami to do that, although I don't think there are any hints for this.

Light should have just gotten Bond Burgered.

Why did he have to kill such a qt?

>What do you mean...?
What did she mean by this?

If someone is that unbeatable, then the natural thing would be to have them win.

She's a belieber.

It's not that unbelievable. Light watched shows to find the most best Kira follower he could use. Near found Mikami with the same criteria. Really, it was foolish for Light to use someone so obvious.

The real lame part is that Mikami went to the bank. There wasn't a strong enough reason for him to fuck up the plan.

>He knew light had to die
Lol no, that's just a bullshit trope. Maybe he should have gotten corrupted or something.

Nah he lost because he got sloppy and his underling was a retard

he should've snatched up those eyes

>Lol no

Uh, actually yes.

>Maybe he should have gotten corrupted or something.
you mean what the whole fucking story is about?

>Near's deus ex machina magic knowledge of X-Kira's true identity

yeah Mikami was really careful to keep his support of Kira a secret. no clue how Near could have thought Mikami might have been working with Kira.

He had to die otherwise it would be banned for 'glorifying vigilantism'

>I don't think there are any hints for this.

It was established in the first episode that ryuk would kill him when the time came

The ending was consistent with how Light was portrayed throughout the series. You can see this when contrasting it with the amnesia portion of the series, where Light doesn't leave anything to chance and is rational every step. Once he has the death note he becomes arrogant. Now fast forward five years where half the world worships Kira like a god, and he's bound to fall due to overconfidence. Seriously, how could he justify leaving the actual death note in the hands of someone else for such a prolonged period of time. He deserved it for his stupidity.

Another fine ending would be if Light chose to lose his memory and retire from being Kira. There were enough people in the world that sympathized with Kira that could have kept it going.

Or just fake his own death.

That sounds like Code Geass.

>fine ending

No, that's a retarded ending.

The series should've just ended with Light having a big ceremony where he reveals himself to the world as Kira

During which, Ryuk kills him

Why would Ryuk kill him in that scenario he'd just there to watch shit go down

there was a shit ton of deus ex leaps of faith and mental gymnastics on L's part too, it's just the writer didn't want it to end YET so light managed to out-deus ex machina him, simple shit

it's literally in the same vein as naruto and shit, who even bothers watching past episode 25 anyways

Film ending is perfect. Light does his whole thing with manipulating Rem into killing Watari + L to save Misa; as he gloats over L's dead body L is all 'NOT SO FAST FUCKBOY' and reveals that he had written his own name into the deathnote a few days earlier and set it to the longest possible time before death (30 days I think?). L literally kills himself so that Light can't do it then uses that to catch him.

Potentially goofy plotting aside, I think that thematically "everyone dies, you both lose" was the best end scenario.

Mikami outed himself by going to all those public appearances, pattern was too obvious and even he didn't sentece the whole thing done until he confirmed Mikami had the Note. Only after confirming Mikami was X-Kira, he made a meeting. It's called detective work and investigating suspects.
