Most movies I've seen lately that try to be something more than the mainstream end up falling into this other trap of being super visually delicate. I'm looking for something more... punk, I guess? Opening to Enter the Void feels like a good example of what I'm looking for, something aggressive but still outside the cliche. Nothing wrong with delicate, just not what I'm looking for right now.
Can't tell if this is fully sarcastic. Seen Turin Horse and while it was certainly outside of the norm (interesting lighting/camera choices) it was basically as if you took all the ambient movement from Kurasawa and made that into the movie.
First half of the trailer for Cosmos made it seem like the exact type of thing I was leaning against.
Second half makes it seem like a unique, weird, funny, aggressive, and pretty film.
Way up my alley. Will definitely check out Zulawski.
