Leaving the soldier and putting his hands on his head is interesting. It suggests that Ren is stressed, shocked. It's possible that he is reminded of his destroyed village and dead parents. No one else saw him do that, only we the viewers. He looked rather stoic and logical in the scene, but also cold, wanting to leave as soon as possible.
