In the event of divorce, men with sons were more likely to get custody, and women with daughters were less likely to remarry.

I have a theory that since male offspring are only really competitive if the dad is alpha (i.e. either has power and resources to help his sons out, or has good genes), that women basically have female offspring when they think their partner is beta.
I haven't seen proof for or against this.
