i wonder what you're like in person
eh you had to be there. the egg council shit was .. it was a thing

Perfectly normal and nice really I gave a tour over at the Junior College

>I'm the first non-Brazilian person to travel back in time!

I have no idea why people are so crazy about Dr. Zaius.

I never even understood what were they referencing. I assumed it was a fuck up of the dubbers.

>Its Hammer!

It was originally "first non-fictional person"

Groening never understood why it was changed cause he liked the line

Wait is this classic Simpsons? The animation style looks like modern Simpsons

Wife's Aquatic

I never understood the joke here, I thought once I got older I would get it. But I don't. Why were they mad at Homer for putting on a dumb rasta hat?

Because it's cultural appropraition (people complained about it back then) and him being a grown man trying to look cool and failing made him look like this:
youtube.com/watch?v=Ele_dj3ud38

hello, fellow kids

Fuck off, Narc.

They think he's an undercover cop trying to bust them for drug use.

They assume he's an undercover cop doing a really shitty job of blending in.

A narcotics officer or "narc", colloquially.

>cool concert, am I right?

He's a narc

sure and i bet you also think we should have a nice plate of eggs too

Holy shit, THAT'S what that's from?

I thought that scene was from Ned's Declassified.
What the hell

ha, same here

odd, i'm usually in hysterics when these two roll around

>eh you had to be there. the egg council shit was .. it was a thing
Yeah, if anything it's more of a dated reference than an outright bad joke

That's probably because you weren't around during the early 90's

>in just over a year there will be adults who never existed in the 20th century

>tfw all you remember are the good jokes and you'd have to watch the episodes intently to find a bad joke

I know it was changed but it has to reference something, doesn't it?

I mean, did they just throw a dart at a globe and decided to go with Brazil as a joke instead?

>eh you had to be there. the egg council shit was .. it was a thing

What the egg council was real? can you explain

Here too.

You have much to learn my friend.

One of the writers went to a concert and tried to start a conversation with some of the teens, this was the result.

Its a reference to an 80s movie short where a brazilian man Invents a time machine to stop the Maracanazo.

The Maracanazo where the finals of the 1950 world cup (that Brazil was the host of). In that game Uruguay defeated Brazil 2 to 1 in their own stadium the Maracana hence the name Maracanazo.

The movie follows the man as he tries to stop the defeat of Brazil but ends distracting the brazilian goalie and being the reason for loosing the game.

I found the shot but is in Portuguese with spanish subtitles.

I still would've loved a squeaky egg costume.

...

Mostly not funny cause i never understood it

I never got it either.

Same with this one. Why would they have a barn full of Sup Forums users?

Chucks is top shit

Come on dude

Sneeds Feed and Seed
Chucks Fuck and Sucks

It'd never be named that, definitely a stretch

That doesnt even make sense, are they selling gay prostitutes? WTF

this is bait

It's an autism detector.

dont bully i want answers

Really makes you think.

Sneed Feed Seed all use eed
Chuck F___ S____ all use

Chuck Feed + Seed because it just passed ownership

I'M DICK TRACY! TAKE THAT PRUNE FACE!
NOW I'M PRUNE FACE, TAKE THAT DICK TRACY!
NOW I'M PRUUUNE TRACY TAKE THAT...
>Dick Face

As a kid i thought he was playing a game where he was like a bodysnatcher or something

that's....actually pretty cool

Beta Barn as in betamax tapes (another cassualty on the format wars)

also I get your joke.

Wait was getting stuck in an egg costume a simpsons episode? Oh fuck, I thought that happened to me.

That was Calvin and Hobbes but still what the fuck user.

Someday I'm going to get that egg

No it was some kind of Vegetable. An Onion I think.

Betas were better quality than VHS. Not even kidding.

>(people complained about it back then)

People still complain about it now, but the difference is that even a pretty heavy SJW will shoot down that argument before it can even start, so it stays in small ultraliberal corners of the net.

They think he's a cop whose playing the Clinton strategy of being "in" with the "fellow kids".

Porn chose VHS over Beta.

I stopped watching last season when Laurel died and started with the season premiere this year because I have no life. It genuinely does feel more like S1 or 2 now. It's not great but it is watchable. But Felicity is still annoying just by existing because the sight of her reminds me how shitty she was. And it's only a matter of time before the boyfriend drama blows up and that won't be good.

...

Yes, it was an out of the way whore house, which presumably got shut down and later purchased and reopened as an actual business.

It's not supposed to be in depth, it's just a quick visual gag.

This is barely even identifiable as a joke.

well back then it was a legitimate joke

It's just super dated. At the time, it was chuckle worthy to think that an elementary school, of all things, would have or need a website. Remember, this was in late 1996, where a good portion of the United States still didn't really use the internet and wasn't sure what it was for.

>http

We have come a long way.

Has anyone read any of john swartzwelder's books? I hear good things.

Why would this ever be funny

>barely even identifiable as a joke

could be said for most of the humor in that episode tbqhfam

most overrated shit ever

Fuck, that is inside.
They should've just made a Back to the Future joke.

Someone didn't get laid in highschool

Because it's making fun of maffia tropes. I chuckled while reading it.

The maracanazo, the only worthwhile thing my country did, and was more than half a century ago.Brazilians sure got mad tough

>season 11
>golden-era Simpsons

kys

Simpson is good up until the movie included.

its funnier in spanish cuz doctor rhymes with lemon
i always thought they said something different in english

This was funny because he was trying to be serious with a kids toy that played hip hop music.

Not great as a joke, but really interesting as a cultural artifact.

I drive past an elementary school every day with a big LCD sign that sometimes says "Like us on Facebook." It still feels like a parody to me, but that's just what stuff is like these days, It's not weird to anyone much younger than me.

Mmmm no. It had already begun it's decline in season 10. The Movie was between Seasons 18 and 19. 2-9 is golden era, with a steady decline after.

Don't get me wrong, there are great episodes from 10 to about 15, but there were more and more duds. It was more crap than good by the time the movie came out.

there was still more good than bad by the time of the movie.

I know people didn't complain about the Simpsons before it.

>I know people didn't complain about the Simpsons before it.
Gotta be over 18 to post on four chan dot gov

I have been here since 2007. I remember the time Sup Forums never complained about Simpsons.

1) Not just talking about Sup Forums and
2) You're honestly remembering

The nature of the complaining has changed, sure. It started with complaints about the plots and situations were getting too ridiculous. Shit, there's episodes in the golden era poking fun at it.

As time wore on, the complaints went from "this show isn't as good as it used to be" to what you hear now, mainly "this show clearly ran out of ideas more than a decade ago and needs to be taken off the air."

Probably because it did get worse with the time and it's in what, Season 25 now? Even if you extend the golden era to S15 it's still 10 years of pure shit.

28, if you can believe it.

But just look at those ratings!

So more than the ones that various Nick/Cartoon Network/Disney ones fight over.

what caused the increase for s12?

I'm more interested in what caused the increase of 20-21. Fallout from the movie?

Not sure, but it's pretty interesting, huh? Not only is it really significant, but it's the highest ratings they ever had.

Pet theory: New, widely disliked presidential administration causes people to seek more left wing humor. Heck, maybe it'll happen again.

Again, no clue. It's not super significant, though, only 300k more viewers.

The writers actually joked about this on the DVD commentary for YOMT.

>Pet theory: New, widely disliked presidential administration causes people to seek more left wing humor. Heck, maybe it'll happen again
costanza.jpg

If I had to guess, more American households with TV? Cable more readily available? Other popular shows ended?

20th anniversary.

Not making a political statement one way or another, but you can't deny that while he has his supporters, and clearly enough of them to get elected, he is widely disliked, especially by the people who traditionally make up a large percentage of the Simpsons target audience. People seek entertainment that conforms to their biases.

Agreed, golden era was 1 to 9 and a bit of 10, then the episodes and jokes were mostly shit. Not unwatchable until awhile later, but still mostly shit.

I know a lot of people in Sup Forums mark the sugar shark as their jumping point, but for me it was the African episode.

There's not a single joke or gag from the golden era that didn't land, and this thread has yet to prove me wrong.

>20th anniversary.
Ah that makes sense, there was probably a media blitz.

Although there was a TREMENDOUS media blitz in the year leading up to the movie and it still trended downward, so who can really say.

You remember that shit? I never saw that much Simpsons shit in real life, it was a little surreal. Like, I obviously knew that it was a popular show, even then, but seeing out in the light of day was jarring.

I don't remember season 12 being anymore overtly political than usual, and I could just as easily claim that the Bush administration brought more families together to watch prime time television because something something conservative family values something.

I don't actially BELIEVE that, but it's just as valid of a theory.

The fuck did someone bring Sup Forums into here for? Nobody even brought that up before these posts.

Not more overtly political than usual, no, but The Simpsons has always had a liberal bent and it could be seen as a security blanket. Heck, I'll bet that Fox New's ratings went through the roof when Obama was elected.

And I'm prepared to be proven wrong, but it's a hypothesis that at least holds water.

>Gay lefty posts something vaguely related to politics and suggesting that maybe, just maybe, people behave in similar ways regardless of their political leanings
>must be Sup Forums

Jesus Christ, Sup Forums, you're scared of your own shadow.

I don't know. For some unknown reason, a butthurt nu male from Tumblr decided to start randomly posting Democrat talking points even though it was completely unprovoked and nobody had brought up politics in the thread before.

People had been waiting for a Simpsons movie for so long that creaming their shorts over one was inevitable, no matter how shitty.

When?
