The movies are all about creators and creations and purpose. Each time a god creates new life for the sake of vanity they come to resent them and try kill them. However the creation rises up and kills them. Lots of reference to prometheus, zeus, the titans etc.
David resents being beholden to his father, especially as he is fallible where david is perfect.

Just like in any other horror movie.
He didn't want to create anything to be honest. He was just broken from the beginning. And then he became even more broken after being alone for so long.
