I watched three episodes of this shit. It's basically the archetype of "strong dangerous man who is really good and treats a woman properly but doesn't want sex."
It's pretty much just emotional porn for women, same as the powerful, dangerous, but sexually unthreatening and morally good vampire in twilight.
If you watch it and enjoy it as a man you might be some flavor of gay, or lacked an authority figure growing up, or both.
As others said, stop watching after season 4.
Also, season two kills off two of the shows most interesting characters (Doakes and Rita's ex) and set up Dexter being an insufferable Mary Sue who never gets punished for his hypocrisy of being a glorified serial killer who thinks he's better than everyone else.
Also, season three is when you realize that the supporting cast are the only reason to power through S3-4 due to how unlikable Dexter is
