A technique that was once rejected as foolhardy and nonsensical has now been wholly consumed into the entire vernacular of a medium. Whole films are made of nothing but closeups watered down like overspent ejaculation, but with Griffith it meant something. The syntax has remained the same, yet we are so far from his vision.
