So where would you live if you had to choose to live between these two cities

So where would you live if you had to choose to live between these two cities

metropolis; sure a crazy bald guy hates the flying guy and the occasional alien attack but hey its better then living in gotham.

Is this a real question? Easily Metropolis

Is this supposed to be a competition? What does plus does Gotham have that Metropolis doesn't?

Metropolis, but in the suburbs.

I don't want my building to be destroyed by the monster of the week.

>The City of Tomorrow
>vs.
>A crime riddled shithole

>The City that has to be rebuilt every year

>vs the city that has to be rebuilt every week

I love Gotham, but the events that wipe out large to moderate numbers of the populace, to actually wrecking the entire place or requiring complete evacuation (i.e. No Mans Land and Arkham Knight, respectively) tend to happen so often I'm surprised that it even remains an active city. Even if we stick to the main comic line, pre N52. Even if we excuse the sliding timescale for a moment, and pretend Bruce has been protecting Gotham for over sixty years; the second you compress it all to fit, it becomes a clusterfuck of horror and destruction.

Then again, while I don't follow Superman, I don't doubt Metropolis has been totalled a ton over the decades.

That said, love dat Gotham architecture.

>crime everywhere or occasional crime with the daily impending doom on earth
Probably just live in a farm in metropolis just so I can get an alien kid to care for.

More like "the city nobody bothers to rebuild."

Opal City

The only correct DC city is Opal.

Gotham. Just for the aesthetics and at least it's not Hub City.

THIS

Metropolis is the city of the future, Opal is all about the past. Wonderful art deco towers and blocks melding beautifully with old New England stonework, it looks like Gotham if Gotham was designed by someone who wasn't a schizophrenic satanist. It also has/had a small but dedicated collection of superheroes who kept the modest crime rate pretty stable and safe.

The Holy Trinity of terrible DC cities is Gotham, Hub City and Vanity, all three make Detroit look like a thriving vibrant place to live.

What does Star City look like?

>OP: Choose between option A and B.
>Retard: LOOOOL OPTION C LOLOLOLOLOL
Never fails.

If you wanted a poll, make a poll. Why limit what could easily be interpreted as "what fictional cities would you like to live in?" to the two mentioned in OP?

I thought bludhaven was supposed to be one of the worst.

Bludhaven's easily fourth. It's a Baby Gotham. Hub City's whole thing is being Detroit on Steroids and Crystal Meth, Vanity was literally designed by architects to make people suffer. The Joker goes there on holiday.

>Hub City's whole thing is being Detroit on Steroids and Crystal Meth
East St. Louis, you mean.

Metropolis gets totaled occasionally, but would undoubtedly be a better place to live until the next disaster drops your apartment building on your head.

You're both fucking idiots. It's late 70s early 80s New York where O'Neil spent a good portion of his life writing and editing for DC and Marvel and where Cowan grew up.
Do you people have two brain cells to rub together? Look at the creators and their lives as well as the year the comic came out, not at what's around you.

user, it's widely known that Hub City is based on East St. Louis, Illinois, the most impoverished and crime-ridden city in America. O'Neil even confirmed it near the end of the series' run.

I live in Winnipeg, I'd feel more comfortable in Gotham.

Ikr

......How about Coast city? The city of alien invasions.

Gotham

If the comics are anything to go by, people barricade themselves in their homes every night in Gotham. It's a literal war zone and full of crazy mass murderers.

Low and affordable rent.

Gotham must be cheaper and easier to find a job. Yeah it's shit, but there are aways global threats in multiple books, it's not like the DC Universe is safe anyway.
I'd have to buy some guns and tools and make some barricades though.

I think East St. Louis was dethroned of that title a while ago. Probably by either Detroit or Gary. Still a blighted shithole though.

I think it's easier to consider Hub City an amalgamation of various rust belt cities, nowadays, because DC doesn't seem to give it any real-life landmarks. Aside from an occasional St. Louis Arch.

>Detroit or Gary
No, that would be Flint. It's gotten so bad that even the criminals can't stand it anymore. Then the toxic water thing happened.

>Hub City
Somebody post the scan of the hobo with the dead baby.

...

Gotham work-wise. Wouldn't be able to have as good a career in Metropolis because of unfair competition.
Also, Gotham has a better night life, it seems.

Does anyone really live in Gotham if they've got other choices? I mean there's a corrupt upper class, but other than that ,it seems like a lot of it is just slums. Basically

The one that's got ham.

Gotham seems like it's more of an attraction. Better high life, night life, casinos, venues, etc.

Batman is surely the cooler hero, but I'd feel better about Superman and his flight and super speed protecting me.

why would one not have ham compared to the other?

Rapture

...

>bonus content includes: Batman
everytime

>not posting best Gotham establishing shot

Gotham, no contest.
You know the clubs are crazier, the jobs are available and you can score better drugs.
Can you even get high in metropolis?

I'm with this guy.

Far less crime than Gotham and smaller chance of getting everything you own destroyed by the monsters/aliens/robots.

dont people mainline kryptonite and shit over there

LITERALLY CURSED

Gotham. If my parent's got killed I have a chance to be part of the bat family.

Does it matter?
I die either way

Smallville

Big cities suck in any universe.

they are pretty nice in our universe

No they're not.

All cities are the same, it doesn't mater if they've got a Superman or a Batman or a Flash in them or not. They're still big, noisy, expensive, dirty, crime-ridden shitholes full of pretentious assholes.

Gotham but only if it's the Joel Schumacher Gotham with the giant statues of muscular men everywhere.

>still get attacked by aliens at least once a year
>only 8 girls in my graduating class at smallville high
>strange super strong gusts of wind blow my hay bales over every time superman wants to cry to his parents about something
no thanks

>if rich
Gotham

>if middle class
Metropolis

>if poor
Star City

>still get attacked by aliens at least once a year
Yeah, but you live in a party of the country where you and everyone you know owns at least six guns.

>only 8 girls in my graduating class at smallville high
All of them super hot farmer's daughters who want to settle down and raise a family with you.

>strange super strong gusts of wind blow my hay bales over every time superman wants to cry to his parents about something
Oh no, I might have to do manual labor!

>wanting to live in Kansas right now

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I would bet the average American City probably has a lower crime rate these days the heroin infested wasteland that has become much of Rural America with it's utterly non viable economy that the people there continue to cling to instead of attempting to adapt.

>live in Metropolis
>Superman can hear your masturbate
>live in Gotham
>Batman knows what you masturbate to

Difficult choice

>I would bet the average American City probably has a lower crime rate these days the heroin infested wasteland that has become much of Rural America with it's utterly non viable economy that the people there continue to cling to instead of attempting to adapt.

(est. 2016 crime rates per 100K population)

THE CITY OF CHICAGO
>Homicide - 21

>Robbery - 354
>Assault - 480
>Total Violent Crime - 907

>Burglary - 482
>Larceny - 2090
>Vehicle theft - 375
>Arson - 17
>Total Property Crime - 2964

>Total Felony Crime Rate - 3871

THE STATE OF IOWA

>Total Felony Crime Rate - 2286 (41% lower)

I'll take the "wasteland" of Rural America over the "enriched" American City any day.

THE CITY OF CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY
>Homicide - 67
>Rape - 74
>Robberies - 755
>Assault - 1097

>Chicago is averaging nearly 2 murders and 4 rapes per day.
What the fuck is wrong with Chicago?

Congratulations, you Cherry picked one of the very few cities with a rising Crime rate!

It doesn't matter what you'd pick, Rural America is out of time, there's no economic viablity left in anything but farming there, and once Automization hits the trucking industry? well they won't even have occasional stops by truckers to eat or whatever to rely on.

Small rural towns have always been safer that the big cities.

It's only in recent years as liberal America has tried to "fix" rural America by shipping inner city blacks, immigrants, and refugees to rural towns that they've seen any increase in crime rates.

You're seeing it across rural America - in Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Vermont, Kentucky, etc etc etc.

>Live in Metropolis
>crushed to death when Superman punches Toymans latest giant robot into a building

>Live in Gotham
>Die because you're to dumb to solve a riddle

Neither, I'm moving to Coast City where it's safe. I got a high paying gig AND an apartment smack in the center of the city! I'm moving up guys, the 90's are gonna be my time

>Congratulations, you Cherry picked one of the very few cities with a rising Crime rate!
I'm just picking big cities at random.

THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

>Arson - 21
>Total property crime - 3770

>Total Felony Crime Rate - 5251

>Rural America is out of time, there's no economic viablity left in anything but farming there
Ah yes, the old "everyone who lives outside of a crappy city is a farmer" meme.

That one never gets old.

Incest is not a career

Gotham. I live in St. Louis so its pretty comparable and I kind of like living in a dangerous city. Keeps me from getting soft.

Fuck em both, I'd rather live in star city.
But if I had to choose I'd go with metropolis, since Superman is more preventative vs batman is who more reactionary.

>facts prove that cities are inherently more dangerous and crime-ridden
>can't come up with an argument against it
>f-fucking rural fags! i b-bet you all fuck your cousins!
Sad

>all these pussies going to Metropolis cause its safe

And thats why I will be trained by the Bat.

The Bat will break your spine for jaywalking.

>implying

Batman only cares about violent criminals. Hes not Frank.

that's depressing as fuck

I think you mean North Saint Louis, friendo.

ESL is more sleazy than anything

Actual St Lousian here. Hub City is East St Louis, not actually a part of St Louis at all, and ONeil explicitly stated in an interview it is based on East St Louis in the 80s.

Gotham, I am not a liberal loser that needs the embodiment of a nanny state flying over the city to survive

Gotham is for real people, Metropolis is for nu-male that need everything to be made easy for them.

It was based on one city in particular, and one that isn't particularly large. I suppose there's no speaking for current-day Hub City, though, whatever form that might take.

The self-aware hipster in me wants to live in Gotham but the logical me knows Metropolis would be safer.

Can I just live on Earth-11?

Nobody chooses to live in Gotham. They live there because they can't make it in other cities. It's the Chicago of the DCU.

Yeah And it's practically impossible to hench successifully in Metropolis. Does anyone know good rogue makss who operate in Gotham, I think i got some talent on that area

I wanna live on the Earth-Me! earth. Imagine, a legion of superman robots so advanced tht they take care of pretty much all crime and alien threat. I get to live in a comic book world, with out the constant threat of death and agony

Only if you hate fun

The art deco, gargoyles, Gothic architecture, everyone dressing like it's the 1940's and Hugh Ferris-esque high rises, overpasses being everywhere, and the city life makes me want to live in Gotham.

I'd probably be killed for my year old $50 sneakers, though, if I'm lucky.

Likely have to choose Metropolis, as long as it still has that 1940's City of Tomorrow vibe.

As another guy said, I'd need to live in the suburbs for either, if I could afford it.

Forgot a pic.

Hated how the Nolan films made Gotham look like a large town with a few office buildings.

This, that's why Gotham has produced many heroes that saved the world meanwhile Metropolis has produced nothing.

the only right answer

But it didn't. Batman Begins captured Gotham perfectly.

There's rarely anything good about Gotham. Some creators like Morrison try to emphasize the night life and artistic aspects of it, making it a wild cultural hub of sorts, but for the most part it's just kind of trash. So Metropolis, obviously.

>Batman Begins captured Gotham perfectly.
Yeah, it did. The rest of the trilogy, Gotham got progressively more "generic city". Though maybe that was intentional.

Too bad you have a 50/50 chance of getting murdered in some villians scheme if you try to go out for the night life.

>a farm in metropolis

>the Nolan films made Gotham look like a large town with a few office buildings.
Did you miss all the panoramic shots of fucking Chicago?

Not me buddy. I was an in shape smart tech savy orphan with parents on drugs and in prison with good grades. I practically have an open invitation to be a vigilante in Gotham.

In the Wild Area beneath Metropolis. The surface world is for squares.
