The 2017 Emmy’s ratings has become a topic of discussion overnight. Last year, it was recorded that the award show was at its lowest rating, but this year looks bleaker than ever! With an all-time low number, some are confused as to why the award show did not do as well as it should have.
Stephen Colbert and friends made political jokes within the very first minute — and Colbert quickly accused President Trump of treason.
Kate McKinnon took home the statue for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. “On a very personal note I want to say thank you to Hillary Clinton for your grace and grit, and thank you to my mother and sister, I’m so proud of you mom, I love you.” After that speech, McKinnon likely wasn’t the only one in the room teary-eyed.
Moments later, Colbert sang a song, at one point delivering the line, “Even treason’s better on TV,” as an image flashed of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. As Colbert continued his song, a chorus line of dancers dressed as handmaids from “The Handmaids Tale” — male, female, and transgender — danced behind him.
He then segued into mocking Trump for having never received a Grammy. “I thought you people loved morally compromised anti-heroes! You love Walter White, he’s just Walter much-whiter. And he never forgave you and he never will. The president complained repeatedly that the Emmys are rigged.”
“But he didn’t, because unlike the presidency, Emmys go to the winner of the popular vote.”
Nothing that happened at the Emmys this year lowered ratings.
It's the lost legitimacy and significance that has lowered viewership. The Emmys never mattered, but now it's just people applauding themselves for applauding others for mediocre work that is only noticed due to current trends.
Even old people don't care about the Emmys.

The book it's based on was written in the 70s I think.
It's not preachy on balance, it's actually fairly nuanced. There are some obvious pandering stuff like how canada treats refugees or the implicatoin that men thinking that they should protect their women means we're going to slide into a dystopia but it's not that bad considering it's a 2016 production involving vaginas.
I do not however believe that this trend will continue into season 2 and I expect a heavy slide in quality not only because of the audience they've captured but also because they're out of material to use regarding the original story
