Anyone else think this movie kinda stinks compared to the rest of the series.

Like it feels required but really isn't and ends up just being weird and pointless.

>weird and pointless

I mean, it's how he became MAD in the first place. The part with Johnny the Boy handcuffed to the burning car is awesome, too. I will say it sags a bit much in the middle though.

Yeah that's a great scene. It seems l ike the world degrades so much between 1 and 2 with no explanation.

I genuinely prefer this over 2 and Thunderdome on all counts, I mean yeah the other two are badass and shit with the post apocalyptic vehicles and shit which the series is most noted for, but the first is the introduction we needed.

And as said its how Max became mad in the first place, and shows the brutality the world had fallen too in places where Max's wife and baby got murdered.

It's the best of the series

I can't understand a word they say in the original Mad Max. The accents are just too thick.

Road Warrior is the only good film, the other two people only like ironically.

its not really a sequel though
more a reboot
just with more money behind it

That makes sense.

>we could have had a fury road in the early 2000's with Mel Gibson but then 9/11 happened.

It hurts.

There is so much that can be explored in this universe.

I think theres comics that explain that in MM1 Iran and Saudi were at war and had destroyed oil supply, then between 1 and RW countries had launched nukes fighting over the oil that was left.

Please tell me said comics are by Frank Miller

Mad max 2 >>>>>>> Fury Road >>>>>> Mad Max

Haven't seen Thunderdome

Has a great opening

A lot of people hate Thunderdome but I love it.

Mad Max 1 is the best film in the series. A grounded light sci-fi about a cop driven to the edge and becoming a villain to avenge his friends and family against a ruthless biker gang.

Best villain, best setting, some of the best car/bike chases. It's a winner.

It's unironically the best of the original trilogy.

Fury Road>MM3>MM2>MM1

MM1 and 2 are some seriously overrated movies. It only begins to get some plot, lore, and substance by the third movie...

MM1 and 2 are slow, the action is boring, seriously it will put me to sleep, the plot is almost nonexistent.

Boils down to taste i guess.

Do you like straight up post apocalyptic shenanigans. Or do you enjoy a slower burn film where society on the precipice of apocalypse. First one is more character driven.

Personally while i really enjoy the second, i still think the whole 'pre-post-apocalypse' is something that is rarely done and it's done really well in the first Mad Max it deserves more recognition.

Fury Road is a much better MM2.

FR > MM > MM2 >>> BT

>Haven't seen Thunderdome

Oh boy.

It's really great setup but you don't really have to watch it ever again. It's definitely not pointless. I love that it's one of the few apocalypse movies that shows that short stretch of time where the apocalypse has already happened but people aren't aware yet.

Tom Hardy is a great Max and I hope that Furiosa shit falls through.

this

>random guy gets his throat cut by broken glass
>appears 30 minutes later talking with an electrolarynx

...

>few apocalypse movies that shows that short stretch of time where the apocalypse has already happened but people aren't aware yet.

Are there any other movies that do this? Most just have the apocalypse happening plain as day like Emmerich movies.

Back when MM was made, Australia was probably the only country that wouldnt have been nuked.

This might be the most pleb opinion I have ever seen

Miracle Mile, Red Dawn, By Dawn's Early Light

Push me shove you!

>Mad Max fans are the most patrician and civilized people on Sup Forums
comfy

(You)'re the one who's thick.

Usually plebposters are the most annoying faggots, but in this case he's right. That is a pretty pleb opinion.

I think Road Warrior is the weakest of the original three.

Bear in mind the first Mad Max was made on a budget of 50 Australian dollars and two slabs of VB

the second one made several references to the events of the first so it cant be s reboot.
At most we are talking about a retcon, because theres no more cops, justice system or anything.

But the difference could be that society completely disintegrated between the first and second.

Will check those out. Thanks.

Not when Fury Road came out.

Teens here couldn't handle original movies.

Nope. Have watched it more than any of the others. It and MM2 are a close run thing though. I like the characters more in MM1.

How is it weaker than Thunderdome? Without using the theme song as an argument.

Mad Max 1 is a true blue aussie film.

Too bad there isn't that much I can say that is. Also fuck you americunts for dubbing over it, we have to listen to your god damn accents, listen to ours.

Satan has spoken.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's weird or pointless. Those are just film embryo catchphrases you're spouting. It's not great, especially compared with road warrior. It's existence makes road warrior a better movie.

Thank god subtitles exist. Could you imagine having to be in australia for any reason whatsoever? Goddamn. Must be hell.

Are you out of your mind?
First one is the best one.

Are they making another one or will we have to wait another 25 years?

I don't really like either of them besides Fury Road, even though I adore the post-apoc aesthetic and world.
I really wanted to like them, but they were really badly written and the action didn't make up for it.

watch it mate ill puncha in the kisa, mericans are such sheilas

>recently rewatched the trilogy
>didn't find any of them to be particulary good
WTF! I loved these films as a child.

The comic about Immortan first capturing the Citadel is neat

I guess my point was that it really missed the transition between kinda shitty and straight up wasteland. I'm prepared for the fact that I might be wrong

This seems like an uncommon opinion desu

I'm Australian and at times i can't even understand what their saying, especially the goose charachter.

a lot of the actors were just randoms they hired from the local pub

That's the best one of the series. Fucking nu/tv/ pleb!

They could make so many movies out of this. we have no idea what its like in other parts of the world at this time.

would you risk your life to save this?

The last 5 minutes alone spawned 7 sequels and a reboot

I found it to be a disappointing movie. Probably because I had seen MM2 first back in the 90's and didn't see Mad Mad until pretty recently a couple of years back.

I liked the setting of it and it did have a couple of well made scenes, but overall the writing is all over the place and Miller's directing is uneven at best.

Fury Road > Road Warrior > Mad Max > Thunderdome

Fist one is the best. The second one is great, but suffers from trying too hard and having weird humor for the sake of weird humor. It's only small scenes and they don't ruin anything, but they kind of take away from the overall mood of the movie, unlike in the first one. Road Warrior is more 80s comic booky and MM is more 70s grit. But RW is sti;; gritty enough to be great.
Thunderdome was just weird. Some good scenes, but a mess of a movie.
Fury Road was too action packed and had too many eleborate set pieces to be trully gritty. It was so... Hollywood. I didn't feel the post-apo vibe in my soul like I did in 1&2 (and in parts of 3). Too many people. Too many things going on in the background. It helped flesh out the world, sure, but it also made it a lot more populated and busy for the viewer. I liked it, but it was just a popcorn action flick with great stunts (but so many that they lost their impact).

>this is what road warrior fags believe

Someone change their diapers already.

RW>FR=MM>BT

It's not as rewatchable as the others but it's clearly the best in the series.

my dad showed it to me when i was younger and we were both confused, turns out like any normal person he liked road warrior and didn't even realize it was a sequel so he had just rented "mad max" thinking it was that.

i eventually saw road warrior and its great, the first mad max is just too campy weird 70s "nudist love-in" shit for my taste though i will give it props for showing an apocalyptic world before the apocalypse. somehow its difficult to show a society without the structure but before the complete collapse.

2 >>>> 1 > FR > 3

has anyone who says that the first one is the best actually watched it recently? the middle is such a fucking drag to watch, and not just because it's slow. more that it's kind of meandering and cobbled together. I respect Miller for making such cool chases on a budget of .5 ausbux but the end result is too plodding.

I saw it 3 weeks ago. You're wrong. It's a good movie. What you call 'plodding' is called a story. It's a movie, not a fucking game.

I saw the first one before the rest, so i wasnt tainted.

Its a good movie. people only think its boring becuase they are comparing it to RW which is unfair. your life wouldnt be as exciting before the apocalypse.

You didn't get it. That dragging part, as you call it, was important to the themes of the movie and Max's character arc.

Yeah i didn't like it, it's some experimental low budget arthouse stuff. But keep in mind George Miller was a doctor not a filmmaker and he kept working at the hospital even while making Road Warrior which is a huge improvement compared to the first one

There are US dubbed versions? Wow, that's fucking ridiculous.

Not enough pewpewpowpowbangbangvroomvroom for you?
MM isn't just an action movie, it's also a character/society study. It's an exploitative low-budget dystopian movie and it works as one. The action is only important because of it's results as part of Max's arc and as part of the dystopian society he lives in, not in and of itself, or for an obvious end goal, like in the sequels.

I was about to buy the blu rays, how can i know which has the original audio?

Bout a year ago and yes the middle does drag on but I reckon it's still above the others - obv. 2,3 and FR were better from a technical point of view, Miller had had time to grow and learn and you can tell the direction is much more crisp after 1, not to mention the huge budget-differences which matter a lot in a movie about cars and motorbikes.

However, 1 also tells the most engaging story and is the only one that makes me give a shit about the characters and makes max feel like an actual person - obviously it's not hard when it's the one they show and kill his family in.
But it's also got the arc with goose which is fucking amazing and tragic and engaging.

2 and 3 are thematically not that different from any other endzeit-movie like steel dawn or whatever and Road Warrior in particular is also almost cringe worthy in parts mostly due to the early 80s costumes that today make me think I'm watching a mad max porn parody.

I guess mad max 1 is too different as a mad max movie or an endzeit / apocalypse movie because it doesnt really take place in the apocalype...

I'm sure people here are aware of shit like the trailer that goose crashes into in the opening chase was Millers own, basically just there to be destroyed for a split-second shot.
You can tell mad max was the movie of a young filmmaker hungry to tell his story...
Reminds me of '77 era Lucas, building sets all night and working himself into a heart attack to make a new hope happen... some of that love and effort somehow makes it into movies and it's recognisable in bothe a new hope and mad max.
Not saying that love isn't there in RW, but maybe it's less urgent.

Saw all movies last year, first half is a bit slow, second is great. Overall better than Road Warrior that is only good for the 15-20 last minutes of final chase.

Only the ones that were aired on TV in the 80s in USA were dubbed.
The blurays and dvds and shit are all original.

Just read the description.
The dub really only applies to pre-2001 versions anyways, so it probably never even made it to blu-ray.

I think you lost him at dystopian.

Thread killer!

1 = 2 > FR >= 3
Fury Road didn't have many low points, but Thunderdome's first half and finale are better then anything in fury road.

Booooo !!! This one is the best.

Just watched beyond thunderdome for the first time.

WTF

i bet the jews did this.
