>MGM only 400 millions

not even a contest. shrek 2

Return of the King is comfortably the best.

>the absolute state of MGM

I probably enjoyed the second Deathly Hallows movie the most. Shrek 2 was a fun experience as a kid as well.

LOTR hands down.

I didn't know Shrek 2 made that much. Jesus christ.

The best what? Production logo? None of them.

They're all pretty bad.

MGM step your game up

It still amazes me that Disney fucked up so bad that a Star Wars sequel starring the original cast couldn't beat either Cameron film.

And as for the best production logo sequence,

Original Star Wars could barely compete with Titanic even with multiple theatrical releases over 30 years.

Step aside tojo

If you adjust to inflation, MGM has bigger ones than that. Gone with the Wind alone has a domestic gross of nearly 1.8 billion. That's not even counting the another 200 million it managed to do worldwide allegedly.

Looks like I need to get into the arsenal here

Personally I find when you adjust for inflation it is just as inaccurate and misleading of a stat as the original box office gross.

The movie/entertainment landscape has changed drastically over the years. Gone with the Wind has sold the most tickets of any movie, but it was a time when there wasn't a whole lot of entertainment options and it played for 2 freakin years! Now films need to get their paydays within a month, sometimes in just 2 weeks before the bottom falls out. It is very rare to get a film that stays at the theaters for months at a time anymore. Titanic was the last movie to go 15 weeks in a row at #1.

You also have so much more competition these days, both at the theater and with other forms of entertainment. People can wait a couple months and watch the film in the comfort of their own home. You couldn't do that in the days of Gone with the Wind. Your only choice was the theater.

It's an interesting stat, but hardly the "real" number or ranking.

Not to mention inflation calculation, especially on world wide scale is pretty daunting task.

I do agree it's not a something that should be used on "real" rankings list, but it does shed some new perspective on BO game, especially you consider that GWtW may have grossed anything between 2-7 billion WW, depending on how you calculate the inflation.

And calculating inflation for it is hard, as it didn't do its money during a month or so it was in theaters, but during several decades.

But like you said, it was a different time and no new movie will have the same possibility to hang in theaters for years on end and get the same amount of re-releases.

ROTK > Shrek 2 > Titanic > Avatar > Jurassic World > The Force Awakens > Die Another Day > Harry Potter > Skyfall > Hunger Games

Skyfall is the only film I paid to see because I'm not a woman or virgin.

>he didn't see the LOTR trilogy in the cinema over those three christmases

You missed out.

What a shame to have missed out on a couple manlets having gay sex for 9 hours.

...

You seem to have mistaken LOTR in some gay porn movies in your collection.
