"Attended the premiere, Blew Orville out of the sky IMHO. " MacFartland on suicide watch

Search4, a regular of trekbbs had this to say about the Premiere of STD:

Very lucky to be able to attend. Tremendous showing of support from CBS with a number of older series regulars attending including Shatner, Nichols, Frakes and more. Many production people as well. The two-parter was shown.

The crowd was genetically destined to love this iteration of Star Trek ... regardless it was extremely well received. Gorgeous. Interesting. Enough meat to start a debate. Some fireworks. Really interesting start.

Blew Orville out of the sky IMHO.

I can’t say that All-Access is a good idea but this looks to be a show worth watching.

>show worth watching
it's not about being worth watching
it's about having to watch it anyway as a Star Trek regular and wheter that duty is a pleasant one

Embargo
LAMO at this garbage dump.

>The crowd was genetically destined to love this iteration of Star Trek

what did he mean by this?

>I REMEMBER THING
>I CLAPPED
>I CLAPPED WHEN I SAW IT
>AT-ST'S AT-ST'S!

Orville is a comedy though, this is stupid. You can generally expect an original series to be more meaningful than it's comedy counterpart, especially when it comes to Star Trek, and I don't think Seth was ever trying to make his show better than Star Trek. Whoever said this seems to be offended by Orville.

> The crowd was genetically destined to love this iteration of Star Trek
> genetically destined to have bad tastes.

>Enough meat to start a debate
Means it's very shitty.

I watched the 2nd episode of Orville and I can honestly say they try to rip-off Star Trek in immoral and probably illegal sense at this point. It's not just a comedy or a satire anymore. About 80% of the show is regular star trek of the TNG era and only a small part are actual jokes making me believe they made a conscious decision to copy-cat TNG.

But it's all good, those that have overdosed to the TNG-like treks will find no issue, STD will be obviously better especially because it's not a retro copy-cat of most treks of the 90s and 00s.

(((they))) loved (((it)))

>and I can honestly say they try to rip-off Star Trek in immoral and probably illegal sense at this point
>STD will be obviously better
lmfao

Interesting. What a strange and perverse thing to do.

...

and thats why we love it so far

orville doesnt take itself seriously and that is what star trek universe needs right now
not some fucking stargate universe beverly hills 90210 mix up on space

What's wrong with his face?

Shatner is snarky as fuck

I loathe the modern trend of gratuitous over design. The original uniforms are simple and iconic. From TOS to TNG and DS9 the uniforms look like uniforms rather than costumes.

Is he, dare I say it... /ourguy/?

Bless him. Hey Bill, you're on Sup Forums pretty often. What's your opinion on STD?

>because it's not a retro copy-cat of most treks of the 90s and 00s.
That's why it's yet another prequel show.

I also attended the premiere. This show makes Enterprise look like a fucking masterpiece.

according to nu-males here ENT is already a masterpiece

>mfw based Shatner will make threads destroying Discovery with us

It had it's episodes that were good, but it was easily the weakest (by a large margin) than the others in the series.... until now that is.

>The crowd was genetically destined to love this iteration of Star Trek ... regardless it was extremely well received. Gorgeous. Interesting. Enough meat to start a debate. Some fireworks. Really interesting start.

Real people don't talk like this

>duty

You have no duty to do any of that you autistic manchild.

Shatner is actually a pretty funny guy, I watched a recent interview and he was making the host crack up. He may have been a dick in 70s when he though he was typecast and bitter but I think he's a at peace with it now and has become
A based old man

So you're telling me that a Trekkie, invited to a special premiere with all his favorite actors ended up shilling for STD. Who could have possibly foreseen that outcome?

and even then they had to make him talk shit about Orville
the shilling is realer than real life

What bothers me about the new outfits is the lack of easily identifiable colors for job type. I'm sure there is some little detail somewhere, but it's not how it was before where it was unmistakable. The TOS uniforms honestly do look cheap as fuck (because they were), but the whole shirt being a distinct color was both useful and iconic. TNG took the idea and made it look less cheap. DESU, Star Trek sort of requires distinctly colored outfits to retain its tone. I know this is petty, but I can't accept Trek without it.

These new costumes look like something that belongs in Mass Effect. Actually everything about the bridge design and technology looks much more like Mass Effect. Why didn't they just make a Mass Effect show if they hated Trek aesthetics so much?

I dunno man, season 3 of ENT was basically the tone VOY should have been. Darker without being grimdark. They out VOY'd VOY. That's something.

At least they're better than ENT uniforms.

Enterprise is comfy as fuck... And the last season was really good.

>doesn't like ENT

opinion discarded

How do you even make it to season 3?
I can't stand this garbage long enough to finish the first season.

Will, go sleep.

Yeah even if this is just one person with a chip on their shoulder, it's still really weak to bring up Orville as an actual competitor to Star Trek.

Enterprise does not compare to TNG & DS9, but it is still waaaay better than this voyager shitshow.
Neelix must be the worst character i have ever seen on tv.

>Neelix must be the worst character i have ever seen on tv.
How can he be the worst when there's Chakotay, Paris, Kim, Kes, ....

Not really. ENT uniforms were somewhat bland, but they at least retained the colored lines on the shoulders. Not great, but they tried. The uniforms weren't whizz bang overdesigned like in STD either. Some blue flight suits were fairly inoffensive. STD uniforms are way too busy.

>flown out to attend the premiere business class
>put up in a nice hotel
>invited to paid drinks
>glowing reviews
it's gamergate all over again

Season 1 and 2 are fairly weak, but I find them an easier watch than the first two seasons of TNG. To be honest, the quality level of those seasons generally beats any random Voyager episode for me at least. I highly enjoy the set design and the alien designs and prosthetics.

These seasons also introduce Shran who may be the best reoccurring non-crew side character in Trek.

>complaining because uniforms look like actual uniforms instead of sweaters and pajamas

the ABSOLUTE state of nu-males

>that image

All these characters are boring. Neelix is actively annoying. The show should have kept Tuvix. Better actor than either of the other characters.

>CBS All Access

This series is a Producers-like scam, designed to fail. No one is going to pay ten bucks a month just for Star Trek. Obviously we'll torrent it, but there will not be enough subscribers to tune in or keep it afloat.

It's also literally everything RLM mocks in their Nerd Crew videos.

jewish trash. We must secure the future of the white race

t. Bill

...

>pic

You're not the only one that believes that, I've been suspecting it for a while. There's no way the people making STD can be this damn stupid. They're literally doing everything they can to alienate their core audience and expecting it to turn out well for them.

First season TNG was bad but only the "Zulus kidnap Tasha" episode approached the awfulness of ENT. The second season has some of the best episodes in all of Trek.

memes aside, kurrzmann is another bland, Jewish SciFi writer. Why are there so many of them? They show up on every terrible capeshit and ruin it

Why would anyone alive pay money just for this?

Most trekkies aren't even interested and will torrent it

>"All life is born from chaos. The world doesn’t always adhere to logic. Sometimes down is up. And Sometimes when you’re lost….you’re found.

TNG S2 had stuff like The Measure of A Man, sure. But it also had a lot of filler and downright crap. Like I said, you can pick out some serious bombs in ENT (Dear Doctor), but overall the quality and the actual commitment to the premise makes it watchable. I like seeing human/Vulcan friction, I like seeing less stiff characters, I like a return to more TOS style aliens.

Basically, the opening five minutes of the pilot are the barometer of if you like the first two seasons. Do you think a farmer with a double barrel plasma shotgun shooting a Klingon in his cornfield is fun or too stupid?

Anyway, just skip to S3 and try it. It beats you over the head with 9/11 parallels, but it gives an actual interesting continuing setting for a whole season.

finally I have became startrek stds

Somebody was paid to write that. I write shit less hokey when I'm drunkenly writing sci-fi scripts nobody will ever see.

You would be praising this line right now if it came from batman v superman

>Tremendous showing of support from CBS with a number of older series regulars attending including Shatner

Look forward to Shatner shitposting about STD on here.

I think batman vs superman should have relegated to Sup Forums with all the other superhero movies

you faggots would love it if it was in some anime

>the actual commitment to the premise makes it watchable
Are you fucking kidding me?

That's the worst part! It completely ignores its premise.
>We don't have shields yet - lol who cares just make hull plating work exactly shields
>Transporters are too primitive to transport human - lol who cares let's use it on humans every second episode
>Humanity is much more vulnerable and space more dangerous - lol who cares let's treat it like a camping trip

When he goes, will he get a sticky?

only sometimes though

I meant in terms of humanity having friction with allies, as well as Archer being kind of a fuckup. He was explicitly a second stringer and only was the Captain because the first choice died. The show repeatedly points out times where he makes mistakes. It's kind of a running idea. So "it's a camping trip" is basically how Archer acts until space starts slapping the shit out of him.

As for the technology upgrades, yeah sure they get some stuff a little too fast, especially transporters, but the whole idea is they are continuously upgrading. Even into S4 the ship is changing a bit.

TOS>TNG>DS9>ENT>VOY

It's not the strongest Trek, but it's still good.

>I meant in terms of humanity having friction with allies
Which goes against the whole of idea of Trek
>as well as Archer being kind of a fuckup.
And what kind of retarded premise is that?
Why would you give a fuckup the most advanced ship humanity has to offer, and put the lives of its crews in his hands.

>As for the technology upgrades
What technology upgrades. The retarded hull plating shit was there right from the beginning.

>What bothers me about the new outfits is the lack of easily identifiable colors for job type

This changes over the course of the series. The uniforms evolve from ENT style to TOS style by the end

>TNG>TOS>VOY>TAS>ENT>DS9

Enterprise didn't have a single likeable character. Even Scott Bakula couldn't make Archer likeable.

>Blew Orville out of the sky IMHO
>retard doesn't even know Star Trek takes place in space
>we're supposed to give a shit about its opinion on it

twin keckes

>2017
>DS9 fags still falseflag so they can sperg about TNG

The doctor was okay and of course Jeffrey Combs.
But Archer in shower scenes alone had more screen time than both put together.

The idea of friction and fucking up is that humanity grows out of it and becomes closer to the "enlightened" version we get later. It's called "growth".

As for Archer fucking up, humanity didn't scrape him out of the bottom of the barrel. He was a top candidate, he just happened to be the second choice, not the first. In any case nobody in humanity was ready. Again, that's the point. Humans and specifically the crew learn how to handle this stuff.

So is this like a weird fetish or what?

>The idea of friction and fucking up is that humanity grows out of it and becomes closer to the "enlightened" version we get later.
But humanity is more enlightened in it than even the Vulcans.
Who are retconned to be dicks, so we can have a dumb twist.

And it wasn't "humanity isn't ready". You're the captain of a flagship. It's not some amazing new challenge to take the job seriously instead fucking around and acting salty because Vulcans dissed your dad.

Not being able to discuss a new Star Trek show on Sup Forums without alt-right thread derailing will probably be the thing that finally makes me leave this shit hole.

Tolkien, Hannibal and Trek threads were my favorite Sup Forums comfiness and now Tolkien threads are is pure cancer and Hannibal's followup American God's threads were completely unusable. Star Trek will be the nail in the coffin.

Freddie is kind of the odd one out because that character is originally male, but yeah Fuller does it for fun.

>space isn't the all envolving sky

>I actually thought that this picture was from the MacFarlane parody show
lol this is gonna be such a train wreck.

This is like when the porn parody has way better costume design than the $200 million capeshit

It's because believe it or not the parody guys care more

>Retconned

Remember McCoy's crazy racism in TOS? Now it has an explanation.

Alt right pussies are desperate to derail Star Trek

Orville should have put the computers behind the captain's chair though. Framing looks way to empty without it.

Maybe if the show gains legs they'll upgrade it in-universe and change some of the design.

>It's because believe it or not the parody guys care more
in today's society that is almost always the case.

He means that CBS was preaching to the choir. There was no way they weren't going say that they loved it.

Are you genuinely retarded? The sky is the atmospheric layer of a planet. There is no "sky" in space as there is no ground to observe "up" from.

Too bad they're also mods

How come their suits don't look like they would fit if they put their arms up?

>crowd was genetically destined to love this iteration
wtf do they design shills in labs now?

OP set his anus to "fill".

For Shatner? We're gonna get two.

It means that their non-European genes elicited a positive reaction to being shown others with similar genetic characteristics.

that's wonder woman at the bottom?

people went to see a premiere and later on they only had positive things to say

like for real who ever went to a premiere and shit on the movie/series ?

ye

I'm so fucking glad that Orvillle happened if only because this monstrosity will actually be challenged by SOMETHING

If Star Trek isn't going to actually be produced properly, why would I care that someone else produces it under a different veneer? You think anyone here gives a tiny fucking shit about CBS losing shekels? Know your audience before commenting next time you dumb shill

>naming your movie after the old popcorn guy

ABSOLUTELY AMERICAN and also a bad idea.

Real journalists/critics who are used to getting advanced screenings, plied with alcohol and given goody bags and aren't in awe of the entire experience like bloggers and "internet commentators" are

so no one then
