It's pretty good.

Nice try, cats impersonator

The hair's pretty good, but if the beard was a little thicker I think it'd work. But then again that's my opinon.

Yeah, I guess. I don't think the beard suited his more youthful personality in Series 5 but it's something he would have been able to pull off around Series 6B. Except Night Terrors.

I remember seeing that they did it to more easily keep hair continuity.

>Night Terrors
Please someone save me from the monsters!

>yfw matt goes through the same hair evolution as capaldi

I have a few questions about the Short Trips range (the audios, not just the actual story collections)

Do they have any sound effects or music at all? I listened to a trailer of a recent one and there was some atmospheric music, I'm not sure if that was just for the trailer, or only for recent ones, or the norm, or what.

Do the narrators tend to do character voices for the various characters or read things in a more flat audiobook way?

Do they ever connect into audio arcs, or do they all tend to be very standalone?

If you were listening to audios chronologically, would you think listening to Short Trips alongside proper audios would be jarring, given the differences between the narrated style and actual full cast dramas?

Do you generally like them?

I'm curious because I see some places list the Short Trip audios along the regular audios and some tend to treat them more just like an add-on to the written stories themselves, not a "real" audio. The CCs hybridise narration and actual cast drama well, but I'm unfamiliar with the Short Trips so I thought I'd ask around here.

I know I know, I could just listen to a few and find out, but I wanna hear /who/'s thoughts

...

Can you give me a quick rundown on this? youtu.be/46kAzBMJpEk

As far as music is concerned, they tend to have light atmospheric music for short trips.

Character voices depend on the narrator involved. Tim Treloar does a spot on impersonation of the Third Doctor and Peter Perves and Franzer Hines do adequate impersonations of the First and Second Doctors. Others do okay impersonations and some couldn't be bothered, but the later category are generally people who haven't played Doctor Who characters.

As for arcs, they tend to be standalone but I have heard one or two that have elements which carry over.

I never recommend you listen to audios chronologically. BF generally designs their stuff to be listened in release order rather than chronological order.

As for liking them, they range all over the spectrum from being overwhelmingly okay to being overwhelmingly amazing. If it is good, the BF site will generally post excerpts from reviews before the story summary.

The Short Trips are generally done more like the good audiobooks where the narrator gives different voices to the characters. It's why I prefer them to the hybrid nature of the Companion Chronicles.

Feedback post from last thread:

Yeah, I posted that there to try and bump it because it was so early.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer! Interesting note on comparing them to the CCs - you aren't much of a fan of the CC approach then, or you just prefer the ST style? What about the Early Adventures and Lost Stories that go a bit further with the cast stuff?

Why'd you respond to and not

I'm just not a fan of the hybrid style. I prefer stories that are either fully scripted and acted dramas are narrated audiobooks. That's not to say there haven't been some CCs that I enjoyed, just that I prefer a full cast to a partial cast. I don't want to smear the CCs, just say that if I had a choice between them and the STs, I would generally chose the STs over the CCs. For the Lost Stories, I don't mind those because many of those scripts were designed with the visuals in mind and had to be narrated and partially cast in order to fully capture what those unmade stories could have been.

What were your thoughts on them?

>the Doctor should've had a beard in Series 6!

What am I doing wrong here?

Cool cool, makes total sense. The thing with some of the hybridised ranges that bugs me is they seem to kind of arbitrarily dip in and out of which bits will be more narrated and which bits will be actual dialogue at times.

please delet, for the sake of all that is good in the world

No but I have shorter hair in real life, that pic is basically me back in May.

quick rundown
-RTDcucks bow to Moffat
-Possesses timey-wimey abilities
-Control BBC with an iron but fair fist
-Owns shows & miniseries globally
-Direct descendant of the ancient Moffett DW line
-Will bankroll the first anniversaries set on Mars (Ice Warriors will be the first villains)
-Own 99% of pretentious dialogue facilities on earth
-First designer villains will in all likelihood be Moffat fears
-Moffat said to have 215+ IQ, such intelligence on Earth has only existed deep in St Luke's University & Area 51
-Ancient Scottish prophecies tell of an angel who will descend upon Earth and will bring an era of enlightenment and unprecedented kino with him
-They own coupling labs around the world
-You likely have sleep dust inside you right now
-Moffat is in regular communication with the Archangels John and Wiles, forwarding the word of Verity to Roath Lock. Who do you think set up the meeting between the pope and the Doctor (First meeting between the two figures in over 54 years) and arranged the Doctor's visit to Mondasian Cybermen literally a few weeks later?
-He learned fluent quips in under a week
-BBC entrust their IP reserves with the Moff. There's no OC at the BBC HQ, only Roath Lock
-Moff is about 7 decades old, from the space-tiem reference point of the base Time Lord currently accepted by our ratings
-In reality, he is a timeless being existing in all points of time and space from The Unearthly Child to Twice Upon a Time. We don't know his ultimate plans yet. We just hope he's a benevolent being

the M A D M A N

I was reading one of the EDAs before dinner and a girl asked me what book it was. Told her it was just a Doctor Who thing and she immediately was like "oh i like doctor who, but not the most recent guy." Unfortunate.

>oh i like doctor who, but not the most recent guy

>The Twelfth Doctor never wore this shirt

BURN NORMIES

maybe she meant bradley playing hartnell since he's the most recent 'guy' to take up the role

>not liking Walder Frey
lame.

She asked who my favourite Doctor was and I could see her eyes glaze over when I said it was Eight. I don't think she even knew who it was.

Optimistic, user. But even then, she'd have questionable taste.

>I don't think she even knew who it was.

Who was hers? Chatting with normie fans can still be fun

10, but she isn't a fan per se. You know, she just casually watched it and didn't get too invested. And she turned back to talk to her friend after asking me anyways, so that's that I suppose.

still no mcgann pics on my phone

Oh well, plenty more Pauls in the sea

...

Oh shit, wrong Doctor Who Paul

Just finished Autumn Mist, btw. It was alright on the whole, and Fitz was pretty great in it... but I can't be too positive, because at the end of it, Sam decides to stop travelling with the Doctor and she only has one (technically, two) more books left now. I'm sad.

kek neo, thank you. second time's the charm, apparently

Get ready for a pretty fucking insane run of books (Interference books 1&2/The Blue Angel/The Taking of Planet 5)

Lym you could mock up a "The Two Pauls" cover/poster/whatever with Paul Cornell and McGann one day

Nothing's sad 'til it's over...

No, the Three Pauls with Cornell, McGann, and Magrs.

>insane
Oh, I hope you mean that in a good way. I know a little about these books (although, not much) and I've been rather excited to read them.

But it's over very soon, so I'm preemptively sad.

Also, phone signal is really bad right now. I may suddenly disappear.

Everything's sad til it's over.
Well what about Paul Kasey then? He's the only non-regular actor to have been in NewWho, Torchwood, and TSJA

Neo wgat do you think of reactors and reaction channels

I wish more react channels actually did commentary and stuff instead of the reactor just staring at the screen and going "Ooh!" every 5 minutes.

Oh No It Isn't finished. Don't think it was too bad having minimal information regarding Benny prior. I knew she was an archaeologist that traveled with the 7th Doctor and that's about it.

Пyтин - Пыня?

Mixed feelings, I'm overall bemused by their popularity, though sometimes I think I kinda get it, even though it's not really something I'm into personally.
I've two older siblings so when I was kid and 'playing' vidya, it was annoying to just watch them play when I'd rather be playing. To this day I don't get vidya reaction channels. Passively watching someone do an 'active' experience I could do myself, why don't I just do it myself? I care more about my opinion and reaction than some rando's online.
Reacting to TV/movies, I kinda get a little bit more when it's seeing people react to things in ways different to you, like the other night on the stream someone cued up some Sesska vids and while there was a lot of dead space and dull bits in them, it was interesting to watch her react in certain ways to some bits. In person, I like introducing people to shows/movies, online feels removed from that since I don't actually know the person, but I guess it's the same principle.
I enjoy some channels that do that sort of stuff I suppose, like RLM (I think this is gold for example, what an idea youtu.be/7Rfup0XKx7o ) but I'd rather just watch/read someone discuss something rather than watch it for the first time when they're just ooh-ing and aah-ing like says. I find the "living through someone" aspect boring, but hearing someone's thoughts once they've articulated them up a bit can be interesting. I prefer discussing things either irl or places like here, anyway there's an actual back-and-forth interaction rather than just passively receiving someone's opinion though.
Any reason you asked? Interesting question.

what did he mean by this

Hey, Trips. What is your choice for the best ever Doctor Who book?

I've only read a disgustingly small amount of Who books and they were all NewWho. I'm sure it's probably far from the best but the NewWho book I remember enjoying the most was Only Human by Gareth, a comfy 9/Rose/Jack/Caveman story

I want to read through all the VNAs and book EDAs at some point, all the Wilderness stuff basically, probably late next year I'll end up starting that.

Any recommendations for books with the First Doctor? I want to check some of his extended media stuff out before Christmas. I already know of Campaign, which sounds like the sort of insanity I love. Any other recs?

Ah yes, my bad on not getting that name right. What's next, watching people read?
