You seem to not understand how the world works.
Do you know how much a commercial airliner costs? Then you could probably imagine how much money it costs to start an airline. It's not petty ass VC money. You cannot start an airline without the government's help. Consequently, most airlines are owned in part by their respective governments, and those governments share in the profit. The US is one of the few states that doesn't profit from our market investments, because of course that would hurt the poor little job creators.
