Appalachian

Appalachian

Do you say App-uh-latch-en or App-uh-lay-shen?

Have you ever wondered which way is correct? It's the first. Ask any West Virginian (the only state that is entirely within the Appalachians).

Also /r/ WV comfy thread.

The latter

t. Texan

The heart of Appalachia says otherwise, friend.

Ap-ah-lack-e-on

App-ah-lay-chee-en

I live in western north carolina.

App-a-latch-un

Appalachians pronounce it

app-uh-latch-uh

non appalachians say

app-uh-lay-shuh

App-uh-latch-en

From a Texan

App-a-latch-in

The locals say the former, but they're also some of the dumbest mountain hicks in the country.

You'd be surprised.

We go there every summer with our church. They may not be "book" smart, but they embarrass you if you come up to them with a pompous attitude.

They're extremely intelligent in living off the land and in trade jobs

These are all correct.

I'm sorry you weren't blessed with the opportunity to join our ranks. We're but simple mountain folk, tending to our homesteads and getting right with God.

I say the Appalachian mountains but the area is Appalachia

appl-a-latch-chi

Apple lay chan

Who cares? The Rockies > the foothills otherwise known as Appalachia

App-uh-latch-en

I'm from the midwest and used to pronounce it 'App-uh-lay-shen,' but I changed the way I say it to match the regional pronunciation after living in KY for 2.5 years.

The first is correct.

I'm from Chattanooga TN and I miss the blue ridge mountains tbqhwy

Correct

Yanks and deep south slave breeding retards git out

neither. i say appa-lay-chen...

weird that they can't even pronounce the name of their homeland correctly

merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Appalachian

landlocked states are shit

>There's no such thing as local dialects. A dictionary written by some Yankee queer describes the only correct pronunciation

How little can you know about your own country and why do Yankees seem to enjoy sucking elitist dick so much?

If you miss the mountains why don't you just climb on the ol' Chattanooga Choo Choo and come see them

>Cities on rivers aren't as good if not better than coasts

Why though?

Virginian by way of North Alabama here. We say the former in both places.

Also, culture of the Appalachian people is App-uh-latch-ia. I would think that this lends support to the former pronunciation.

>yankee

North Carolina. I'm just not an idiot.

>Taking a train in our country

We fucked this one up, but it won't matter for long. Driverless cars are almost here

I wish the Appalachian mountains werent so fucking poverty stricken

Appa-latch-un

t. Tennessean

TN here, I say it both ways on occasion but prefer the first one

since this seems to be a QTDDTOT thread, how may of you guys used to spell "gay" as "jay", when you were like 9-10 years old.

App-uh-latch-en

Appalachia (/ˌæpəˈlætʃə/ or /ˌæpəˈleJtʃə/) is a cultural region in the Eastern United States that stretches from the Southern Tier of New York to northern Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia..

Both are actually/technically correct. You can tell where someone is from by the way they say it too.

Apple-Ashun
>Leaf here, we know our geography

Well when said Appalachia it's pronounced
App-Uh-Lay-She-uh
So why wouldn't the same way be applied to Appalachian?

>People who don't pronounce word the way I do are wrong

Do you walk around with a proper British accent?

God dammit why do all the nice things like train travel and trolley cars get taken away, my county used to have all that and more before everything went to shit

Wilmington reporting. I love me some Western Carolina tho

Dictionary pronunciations are based of the correct phonetic pronunciation of letters that are combined together. It's not some "hurr Yankees tryna take ur culture", it's literally the correct pronunciation. Stop being fucking ignorant and learn to read

British English isn't the correct pronunciation, tho. Not sure what comparison you're trying to draw.

>dangling vowels
>awpul
>buhnawnuh

I don't mean to imply I never make mistakes, but I don't pretend my mistakes are correct when I realize I've made one.

Friendly reminder than due to liberal and EPA dickings coal mines cannot operate as much as they did before and land prices are lowering. Please come to open a business and provide work for honest blue collar rednecks.

Apple-Ass-Chan

From WV. I've always said and heard App-uh-latch-en but I have literally 0 opinion on people using App-uh-lay-shen instead.

Roanoke, Va. We say Appa-Latch-en

Hey fucking michigander said it right though

Kek, I went to rehab in Mill Spring.

MDfag for reference. I say "Apple-ay-shin"

Hillbilly user here, the latter pronunciation thoroughly triggers me.

I never realized there was even a rehab

I don't do droogs

I guess they keep it on the D.L. Its like a hippie thing for schizos + druggies.

MD here. I used to say appa-lay-shun but now I say it the correct way, appa-latch-un.

Kind of pissed to find out it's nearby desu

I thought it was relatively degeneracy-free over here

App-uh-lay-shun

t. middle Virginian (i.e., the best part)

Fellow hillbilly. Also triggered by latter.

It's the first one you goddamn kikes. Fuck you.

WV here, it is App-uh-lay-shuh for the region/ noun, App-uh-lay-shen for the adjective.
Might have the retarded dash sound-it-out crap spelled slightly wrong but whatever.

It's "appa-latch-in"

Source: I go to school at App State, more redpilled than you think
