Not really. He didn't rape anybody, he sexually assaulted an unconscious woman (who if not told about the events wouldn't even know it happened). Because he didn't rape her, the claims that he should go to prison for 20 years are just flat out wrong. The prosecutor only asked for 6 years, so that was the worst case scenario for Turner. 3 years of probation with 6 months (minimum 3) served in jail and the sex offender registry is a totally appropriate sentence. The only people who don't think so just don't know the law or have convinced themselves something different happened. On top of this, it's difficult to truly say she is a victim on the level of a rape victim.

Uusually the former involves a lot more violence and is stacked on top of a violent criminal record, whereas the latter is generally a "we were both drunk" situation on a clean record. Actually that isn't true. Nobody who's graduated elementary school thinks that all rape is equivalent (or all of elements in any group are the same). Not every instance of rape is the same. Some aggravating factors include violence used, forcing/threatening (as opposed to having sex with someone who is unconscious), and physical injury caused by the incident (as in vaginal/anal damage caused). Having a criminal record means that you have already been caught breaking the law. It guarantees that any additional time you break the law you will receive a harsher penalty (even if you were to commit the same exact crime).
Do you honestly think that an incidence of rape where the woman drinks too much and is unconscious, and you have sex with her without causing any damage is the same as rape where you threaten a conscious woman with violence and cause significant tearing in the vagina are the same? If so, you might be an idiot.
