Why do teens always refer to cartoons that came out in 2004-2005 as "early 2000s" (for example, on the YouTube and Tumblr comments for Camp Lazlo, Catscratch, and Puffy AmiYumi)?
Those aren't early 2000s, those are mid 2000s, MID. It flares up my autism.
The further in the passed something is, the less and less clear our memories are, and therefore the self described eras we created get bigger and bigger the further back you go. 2000-2005 are all early 2000s in a lot of peoples' minds, 2006-2008 was mid 2000s and just 2009 was late 2000.
Because when they say early 2000s they really mean 2000-2009.

I'm old enough to remember constant 'RIP Cartoon Network 1992 - 2004' posts. Then later on, I saw it change to 'RIP Cartoon Network 1992 - 2007'. And lately, I've begun to see 'RIP Cartoon Network 1992 - 2010' ones recently. I guess it depends what you got nostalgia for growing up.
More and more years and pop culture items get lumped into the "good ol' days" as time passes, even if they were thought of as "modern crap" when they first came out (for example, disco made a comeback in the early 90s after being widely mocked during the 80s).

Because most teens don't even member the early 2000s, except for possibly late teens, and think that the parts of the 00s that DID they remember are "early 2000s"

You know, there was a period in the 1920s where people got nostalgic over the "gay 90s," and that was in reference to the 1890s. That was the 90s for them. And soon, we'll have a new 20s to contend with as well.
