Maybe if everyone who'd ever been close to you had died, you'd be sarcastic too.

And bits of sick.

greetings traveler

>if you and he want to buddies again i won't stand in your waaaaaeeeeeyyyy

>It's actually a British principality
>We had so much to teach each other.

>"People say the episode was racist, but I made it to TEACH racists, like you, you look like a drop out."

My aunt lives in scotland she says it's quite nice

Well she's WRONG

You are entering my dark place.

This shit had the best opening sequence ever, I can't watch it without laughing
youtube.com/watch?v=zpdgEv9us5A

Darkplace is such a masterpiece. Every time I see a thread pop up or a mention of it I have to watch it all again and I never tire of it. I wish I had the audio commentary though but I've never been able to find it anywhere online.

>(although the show enjoyed a brief run in Peru)

It was lost in an alcohol related misadventure in Fulham

You mean the two extra episodes or something else? Because the first one is on youtube.

No I've seen those and they're great. But apparently they did full audio commentary over each of the six episodes, all in character as Garth, Dean Learner and Todd Rivers. It was a DVD extra on some special edition, but the only torrents around are of the regular DVD set, which doesn't include the commentary.
It's a real shame because you can basically watch the whole show again but with the characters talking over it and bantering in-character and it's apparently very funny, but nowhere to be found on the internet.

Maggots?

Is there literally anything I could do to help make an official Region 1 DVD release of this show happen?

I would actually make an effort.

Fuck that sounds great.

Isn't there one? If not I hardly think you have any power to make that happen. It's a 13-year-old, very under-the-radar project that's completely unknown and obscure to even the UK audience.
It's got a devoted cult-following sure, but getting them to print new DVD's especially for a region they didn't cover initially is basically impossible.

If you had the money and influence to do that, you should make better use of it and arrange a second series of Darkplace instead.

I know, that's why it's so incredibly frustrating that it's not out there. I want to relive the series with the added comedy of in-character, improvised audio commentary.

A kind user gave me a link a few weeks ago but the torrent had been dead for five years. For an entire evening I scoured every corner of the internet for those audio commentaries but I just had to give up and accept I'll never get to enjoy them.

youtube.com/watch?v=kS53LXm1puo

I think I am the only Darkplace fan who didn't really enjoy Man to Man with Dean Learner. The chatshow setting didn't click with me, even though the characters are great, but I'd much rather they'd done more actual Darkplace instead.

Two libraries in Australia have copies of it one in Tamworth and one in Darebin. I don't live near either of these places or even in those states.
Sadly libraries don't lend out DVDs around the country like they do books(they're called Inter Library Loans and you can borrow books from a library in another part of the country for a pretty low price considering that they have to mail them cross-country, I'm a librarian so I know these things). But there are copies out there.

...

whenever it's stuck in my head i have to remember to add the little audio hiccup when they chant "DARKPLACE DARKPLACE DAR-DARK PLACE DARKPLACE-"

So you can confirm that these audio commentaries are in a rare special edition and not in the regular DVD release?

Because I could easily buy the boxset. The description on amazon says it includes audio commentary. It's just the fact that every single torrent of the boxset includes all the bonus material EXCEPT for the audio commentaries and I can't imagine why they're not on there. I mean, why upload the entire boxset + bonus stuff as a torrent but purposefully omit the commentaries? Only explanation is that they were on some special limited edition you can't buy anymore.

Head to Sup Forums make a request

And bits of sick.

man to man was enjoyable. i appreciate it. but more darkplace would be now.

>"Special features include commentary on all episodes by Garth Marenghi, Dean Learner, Todd Rivers; two new documentaries, Darkplace illuminatum, Horrificata illuminata; radio ads, rediscovered footage.
DVD release of the 2004 TV series."

I can't personally confirm it obviously because I'm not there and am not willing to drive 500kms to check it out but that's the description they gave on the library website.

I might as well splash out the five quid and get the DVD release then. If the commentaries aren't on there I've only lost a fiver, and I've gained something to put on my shelf.

Good luck!

I had the same experience trying to find the dvd commentary for ages until I stumbled upon it, I'll try see if I can get it again

Mate that would be amazing! There was a thread some time ago where people tried to find it, but all the torrents had omitted the commentary, and the ones that had it were dead for years with 0 seeds. If you could find it you'd be a hero in the Darkplace community because I know for a fact that a lot of people haven't had the chance to watch it with the audio commentary.

He'll always be the GET OUT MY HOUSE man for me.

Seconded here, if you can find them.

ok this might work, the commentary is the secondary track of the mp4s
digbt.org/51d55bac3cc3d967f4a2459fe57386c8a5b3e543

Was this Richard Ayoade's first directing job? I know he's done films since, but if Darkplace was his first time directing a series he did a damn good job.
Next to the dialogue, it's the directing that really makes the series so good. The low-budget 80's vibe, the deliberate inconsistencies. One of my favourite moments is the close-up of Liz typing like five keys on a computer keyboard and the sound of someone typing like a fucking madman plays in the background. It's small moments like those that really make it so good for me.
It's shot in a very shitty way, but done so on purpose, which I think is somehow even harder because it could easily be seen as terrible instead of a deliberate parody.

Mate if this is it, you're a legend.
It's downloading now, very slowly. If it turns out to be legit I'll save the link for future threads.

youtu.be/R1kmZVMqeiI

THAT'S THE MOTHER, RICK!

guy who posted the commentary here, it seems to be stuck I'm guessing my isp has blocked it

I'll try to slowly seed it over time

It's been on 1,4% for ten minutes now so something's not right. Cheers for seeding, perhaps I'll get it to download completely soon.

I once took five months to get a torrent(some old school porno that one guy on dial-up was seeding, totally worth it), I'm good with waiting, I won't be able to start it up until tomorrow anyway(at work right now).
Cheers again.

I can be very patient if it means I'll finally get to listen to those audio commentaries I've been searching for for years. At least this torrent works, all the others never even got started.
Thanks again user, you're doing God's work.

>Dagless's old friend is found mutilated in a hospital room, all that's left of him is his conscious severed head on the floor
>It REALLY hurts...!

here's a little of the dvd commentary anyway

That's exactly he kind of stuff I was hoping for from the commentaries. Clearly improvised but really funny.
Like the other DVD extras, Illuminati and the other one, all those interviews were improvised on the spot and that just made them so much better.

I own the regular and it has the commentaries

Reporting here. The download has finished, and the episodes do indeed contain a secondary track which has the audio commentary.

Mate, you're golden. I don't know how to thank you, and I don't know what you did that made my download go from 1.4% to completion that suddenly.

But yes guys, this is the real deal. Again, I've saved the link for future threads, but finally everyone can enjoy the audio commentaries.

Cheers again, user!

>Music by Stig Baasvik
>based on melodies originally whistled by Garth Merenghi

Does Matt Berry do audio books? I don't care if it's comical or serious, I just want to listen to his voice on my commute

According to wikipedia Darkplace was the first time he directed something. It's actually quite interesting because I had no idea that besides Darkplace and those two movies he also directed a dozen music videos
I love his comedy stuff but he's obviously a good director as well

How much do you wager it cost to produce this series?

I have it on my DVD, how about you just spend the ten quid if you want it so much and stop acting like a nigger m8?

>>amazon.co.uk

It was low-budget for sure, but it still must've cost a pretty penny. I don't have much to go on but I do know it takes about 1 million to do one episode of Doctor Who, so I'd say the entirety of Darkplace cost less than that.

youtube.com/watch?v=W_vahiTJaNU

is this the new meme show after xavier?

I'm surprised anyone really liked it, they had the perfect setting and then just got rid of it for some shitty 'sort of impressions' of Nigel Mansell, Uri Geller and Brent fucking Spiner but the two Darkplace related episodes were great. They should have been able to tell it was a shit idea before it ever got out of the planning stage.

>So you can confirm that these audio commentaries are in a rare special edition and not in the regular DVD release?
You cheap cunt, they're in the standard release. what the fuck is you people's problem? How poor are you?
>I'd do anything to find it, I searched ALL EVENING for it! Buy it?! Fuck off moralfag! It's my right as a valued customer! I'd rather die than let the show's creators get that 48 pence from my purchase!

As stated before, the torrents out there don't include the commentary, so I assumed they were only included in an special DVD box set which I couldn't find anywhere to buy.
Now that I know it's on the standard DVD I'll buy a copy anyway just to show my support.

>tfw when you're a region 1 and need a link because no region 2/universal dvd player

>no Darkplace season 2
>no Danger 5 season 3

I guess it's good that they don't let the joke get stale, but pastiche TV series' are always the best.

>no Danger 5 season 3
I think they said there'd be a completely new project it and yeah they didn't want it to get stale, plus S2 had its weak points. I really thought nuPierre nailed the role, he made it his own while still remaining true to the character, also Jackson had the GOAT ending finally letting go of the toxic desire for Ilsa and embracing the gay

Link?

I think Darkplace works best with a single season. You feel the whole "lost classic" vibe a lot more.

I would like to see a third season of Danger 5, just to see what new aesthetic they go with.

>The fire extinguisher bouncing in the background

have you met the temp?

I bought/preordered the original release and have the audio commentaries.

He did an in character audiobook for The Toast of London

It took me so many years from when I first saw that face on the verticals until I saw where it actually came from

You are in luck, user.

Please, can someone explain why they shot him like that?

To parody really shitty cinematography, I guess.

best line i've ever heard or seen in anything

>ctrl F one track lover 0 of 0

Jesus ''Dr Rick Dagless'' Christ
youtube.com/watch?v=8BwQBjJvN5Y

My only guess was that either the joke is that he was a friend of the production, or they were trying to hammer him home as someone "important" so his death would have "impact".

Well, that'll stop him

youtube.com/watch?v=vCbIWci7nHY

>point is I did it to heal Britain

Why hasn't Holness done anythin post Darkplace?

Still brings a tear to my eye child

>that's a meme show, this a meme show.
Darkplace is legitimately kino you shit eating cunt.

i love what you did. never fucking stop.

EVERYTHING ROMFORD STANDS FOR

>tfw actually live in Romford and all the things Garth says are true.

Tattered skylines, broken dreams and I'm 90% certain a real hell mouth is turning everyone here into human garbage.

because he's a hack

(or he's precious)

It makes me genuinely happy that Sup Forums appreciates Darkplace. You guys might also appreciate The Armando Iannucci Shows. Not the same style at all but a similar type of irreverent humour.

Fuck just got this in the recommended. Forgot about Time Trumpet. (Features Ayoade and a naked bloke getting shot by police because he resembled a bomb loaded van)

Look, it's Jim! He's been struck by the mist, though he's still alive, unbelievable as that seems!

Wait a minute. I've bloody got that commentary on my DVD. How'd I rip and upload? Haven't ripped a DVD in about a decade.

Darkplace and Danger 5 are on other levels I reckon. As much as I loved Danger it was nowhere fucking near Darkplace.

goddamn sunnavabitch

>you will never have his lovely chicken

I think it was actually fairly high budget, seem to remember them saying this when it wasn't renewed.
