That's a bit more complicated because of communism, but Prussia used to be the wealthiest region in Germany, and Estonia and Latvia were the wealthiest regions of the Russian Empire and USSR, and these regions are also the success stories of the post-communist world, compared to historically Orthodox countries which still have big problems with corruption and sluggish growth.
