Well the thing with Parallax was that Hal went crazy on his own, unlike Supes and Batman who were "killed" / injured. Hal was the greatest GL and him turning Heel was a surprise. Then they retcon him not being crazy but being possessed. I ranted about it in the last thread so i wont rant about it anymore

Emerald Twilight was definitely a PR stunt. The editors for GL wanted him to go through something similar to Knightfall/Death and Return to boost sales so originally Jones was going to have Hal retire and get a new GL in the mix, but they didn't think it was crazy enough so instead we got Parallax killing the entire Corps off in 3 issues.
