I was just a bit too young to be on Sup Forums for the 2012 elections. What was Sup Forums like in these times compared to the 2016 election?

I was not part of the first but I feel like these two elections are completely different ball games...

Pretty shit

2012 was an exceedingly boring election there was really no controversy aside from the 47% statement which blew over in a couple days when Mittens went and groveled begging for forgiveness afterwards rather than standing by his words like a man and clarifying what he meant

Mittens ran a half-assed campaign and was hoping to get by on his presidential looks alone

They are very different. It's almost impossible to even compare the two elections. 2012 was just a really fucking boring 'business as usual' election.

Sup Forums was very different back then though there wasn't any of this alt-right nonsense getting spammed all over the place

Sup Forums back then was essentially split 50/50 libertarian/NatSoc and there was way less shitposting as there were no flags and the stormgaggers hadn't started pounding the shit out of the board yet

There were actual threads for serious discussion and regular Risk threads which were always great

>tfw no barely legal pol bf

Every day pol had shills on it, shilling for Obama. It was much worse than it is now.

Remember Space Elevator? God, I miss that shit.

> a bit too young to be on Sup Forums for the 2012 elections

holy shit how young are you

mods b& this underage

...

Alt right is just a blend of NatSoc and Libertarianism

herman cain best part of 2012

The layout of those most look awfully similar to the anti Trump spam about his jewish ties.

Me too I miss old Sup Forums and I'm hoping things will subside after the election but I don't think old Sup Forums will ever come back but a good first step would be to remove country flags as all they do is bring Sup Forums memes here

Stormfront is Jew run and controlled

It was because of the 2012 elections and trayvon martin being shot that americans took over Sup Forums and it went to shit

The board never recovered, not even with flags

Flags and IDs make it worse as they allow for Sup Forums meme'ing and the dismissal of posts outright just because you now know where the poster is from and the Trayvon Martin thing was responsible for probably more OC than Sup Forums had put out before or since (not counting Trump gimmicks)

What killed Sup Forums was the gamergate autists from Sup Forums spamming the catalog nonstop and the subsequent nuking of the board by jewt
There was really no place to go then cause cripplechan is shit

RCP average had Obama 48.8 to Romney 48.1
Obama one 51.1% to Romney's 47.2%

RCP Obama +0.7 to Actual Election of Obama +3.9

2012's election consisting of the Right Wing Political Entertainment complex saying "Don't Worry, Polls Skewed" to Corporate Media's line of "Whites need not vote since Demographics will push Obama win"

The result of which could have suppressed the white vote. After 2012's election there were quite a few story on how white voters "stayed home".

In addition to basketball-american shenanigans in Philadelphia and Cleveland and no doubt the South in general and Florida in particular.

Magical Gay Negro is not running this election. God Emperor is.

Please stay off POL and return to reddit, newfag.

Excellent post from based forgotten Australia

>please stay off POL
>POL
>newfag

I thought it was POI

Fuck off Sup Forums has always been shit just like /new/ and /n/ before that your looking through a rose tinted nostalgia lens

A lot has happened since 2012
>Romney ran a shit campaign so the vote was 50/50. Hell I voted for obongo over mit because Id rather have a shot at a good republican 4 years later than get stuck with a shitty average one to lose to a democrat in 4
>Rise of Isis was obviously administrations fuck up in the mid east
>Terrorism going overboard everywhere made the board more interconnected
>Trayvon martin + Michael brown and just really pushed race relations apart. Black people playing the victim card and many whites are sick of it

The biggest thing recently was Trump obviously. The reason he was such a hit at first is because he said stuff that deep down many people thought, "Hey..i totally feel like that" and his opposition went ballistic calling him racist and evil which to the person that agrees with him feels equally insulted. This spurred up more US Sup Forums sters.

In 2012 libertarianism was the new 'hip' and 'in' ideology, and it seemed like everyone was becoming one. I myself was a libertarian at the time.

Funny to see how it has faded away. Ron Paul was still a big deal back then.

It was way less shit than it is now you can't deny that

Being president really does age a guy. Look how young Obama looks.

There was no enthusiasm behind romney only dislike for obama and the salt for ron paul

Sup Forums back then was a place of peace and understanding

Libertarianism was one of the dominant ideologies, the other being NatSoc, way before 2012
That paradigm goes back to the /new/ days

It is a bit odd that Ron Paul used to be the hero of Sup Forums and now he gets shit on when people bring him up which is rare now as any libertarian thread immediately gets spammed by alt-rightists

Libertarianism is totally dead on Sup Forums which is pretty funny. It sometimes makes a resurrection in Obamacare threads though, for whatever reason.

You mean when we were getting spammed to hell by interracial porn cuckold threads or how about everyone being called a jidf in every single thread. Ill admit that there where good threads but thats always been the case one of the best i saw was during an user who was there for the tunisian uprising as it happened on /new/ before the board got deleted.

We have alot more newfags and retarded yuros that wouldnt understand freedom if it bit them in the ankle

So was /new/ newfriend

Part of that "the presidency really ages people" meme is that most presidents enter office at a time in their life when the aging process really begins to speed up so while the stress of the job certainly takes a toll I believe it's the former moreso, which is just biological aging

>Semi newfag can't even remember Ron Paul's 2008 run

>you will never get to pick your own flag again

I left Sup Forums and went to /x/ during the 2012 elections. I was preparing for the Mayan Calendar to destroy Earth.

He literally just listened to right-wing radio for issues and built his base repeating those issues during the primary. I understand hating Hilary and voting against her, but I don't get the delusion of T R U M P F A G S thinking he means any of what he says.

I considered myself a Libertarian sorta as well back then. I think a lot of people considered themselves that because the new form of Trump conservatism did not exist at the time. I could not stand Ted Cruz crypto republicans who can't adapt to anything and act more like a fucking preacher than a leader. I hated these kind of republicans who would rather throw everything away over small social issues than bigger more important issues. At the same time, I could not stand democrats and their big government, nanny state mind set that enables so much greed, lazy wel-farers and crime. There was no middle ground and I guess lib was the closest thing.

Trump came along and we all shuffled into his style of conservative, which is National Conservatism. Country first, then when stable, worry about if dudes can fuck other dudes.

We grew up

>you will never get randomly assigned a gay pride flag again.

>tfw I voted for Gary Johnson that election.
Granted Romney and Obama are abhorrent choices.

Sup Forums was ron paul

That was during the stormgaggers spamming drive as noted in two previous posts and yeah it sucked having to hide half the catalog but prior to that it was a rarity

>gamergate autists from Sup Forums

We taught them how to organize and look for (((connections))) in gaming journalism. It was a wonderful time for both of our boards until moot's puppeteers ruined it.

For some reason I have this picture saved under libertarianism

I remember threads three months after Sup Forums was created saying the exact same things your saying that Sup Forums is today. Theyre good threads today although theyre few and far between. things change nothing stays the same forever

Oldfag here,

Back when this was /new/ it was just as infamous and racist. However there was a more vocal libertarian/AnCap minority. In fact one of the most vocal tripfags was Flowergirl who thought we should privatize the oceans. She got doxxed and turned out to be a pretty hot.

It's never going back user. Hiroshima won't get rid of the flags and it is coupled with the general shittiness of 2016 Sup Forums.

t. Bruce the alt-rightist

Wait what i dont remember that although i do remember the ancap retards and theyre masturbation over ayn rand. The crusdader guy who preached here

Wasn't Romney a gun grabber?

No not really

There was no alt-right when Sup Forums was created
There was no Stormfront spamming drive (although there's always been crossposters)
And there was a lot less of this Sargon-style "look what this literallywho posted let's all laugh at how dumb they are!" bullshit

Back in the day Sup Forums fell more in line with libertarianism and traditional conservatism. Years prior to that around the opening of the board it was mostly hurr durr muh marijuana legalization pre-SJW type shit.

Basically replace Trump with Ron Paul. During the 2012 election most people were pissed about Romney but some people here fell in line with him just because he wasn't Obama. Before the election there were a lot of posts on how Romney was going to win - but equally a lot of people thought he was fucked due to his comments he made about poor people.

The SJW shit wasn't as big back then either but there were still discussions about mass immigration, sweden etc and there were no flags so nobody knew which country everybody was from. When they implemented it you could actually choose the flag you wanted to appear as.

Some big happenings around that time were George Zimmerman and Christopher Dorner. Also Sup Forums dealt with a lot of attacks and raids from the reddit board SRS. There were also a lot of happening threads with North Korea. People were just bored.

Sup Forums was much more libertarian back then as a whole I think. Shit has changed quite a bit over this past year and a half with SJW ramping up, gamergate, and Trump.

Also prior to Sup Forums mostly everybody posted their political shit on Sup Forums. You can kind of say what Sup Forums now is, is basically just matured old Sup Forums users and normal-fags who found the board through social media.

Every famous Bruce in history is from New Jersey

There were a lot of liberals on /new/ but it never even approached proto-SJWism

I remember the selectable flags
>you will never shitpost pretending to live in Sweden with the Muslim flag ever again

>I was just a bit too young to be on Sup Forums for the 2012 elections.

believe it or not but in 2012 almost all of Sup Forums was libertarian/ancap with most threads being about ron paul, economics, central banking, monetary systems etc. SJW's were still mostly unheard of, though signs were starting to show. white nationalists slowly started coming back (they were called stormfags, referring to the stormfront forums) and started posting race and jewish related stuff.

over time SJW's grew in power in the mainstream, which brought even more white nationalists to Sup Forums. at this point the libertarian and ancap threads started dissapearing, replaced with threads about race, jews and SJW's.

there was never much enthusiasm about romney. sure we wanted him to win over obama, but nobody really liked him and nobody really cared he lost.

Space Elevator and natural disaster habbening threads aside, it was a shithole and you know it.

>Endless Chemtrail threads
>Dahb00 Shemitah-tier spam
>AnCap everywhere

There was gold sure, and the board was more comfy, but Sup Forums now is no better or worse than it ever has been outside of the regular electoral season shitposting and reddit migrant spikes whenever Milo links our memes.

What I will tell you is that 4 years ago exactly the same excuse was used to justify Obama being ahead in the polls
>hurr the poll is biased because they sampled more democrats, Romney is leading really, the silent majority support him
Note to right wingers: there is no such thing as the silent majority, More americans jsut are democrats than republicans. Polls are accurate. Hillary is winning. Deal with it.

>when you're only 8 off from a quality shitpost

A damn good try though.

The alt-right has been the worst thing to ever happen to Sup Forums as it lead directly to a flood of redditors and Sup Forums being mentioned by name in rags like Breitbart

This election has been by far the worst for the board
Sure there's been some great Trump OC to come out of it but as you said things are far less comfy now

2012 election was trash.

>not one Paulposter

>there was way less shitposting

no

R-money would have won if he had picked Christ Christie as his running mate desu famalams

Itt we post vintage memes. Fresh from the meme cellar. Go to your oldest folder. (reinstalling windows killed many of my memes)

how can paul ryan be both an objectivist and a cuck

i just don't get it

...

Here is an example of Just How Boring this election was.

The Obama And Romney Are The Same meme was extremely prevalent. It worked in Gary Johnsons favor. But not really.

Bane posting will always be relevent

best reaction image of 2012

...

Is anyone still here? I can keep dumping

Essentially this for the 2012 elections. It was Ron Paul or bust for the Republican nomination.
Yeah it was always racist, that is why it was /new/ was deleted and everything before it was as well. All Sup Forums politics boards will be racist, that is the reality of it.

fuck i remember the curiosity hype.

keep postin

...

BAIN?

...

Any pics of qt teen or 20's Romney?

This appeared in almost every thread at some point.

...

...

I also voted for him because he wasn't spouting bullshit policies like he is this year. And also Bill Weld wasn't his running mate.

...

Sup Forums stopped caring about the election for the most part once Ron Paul got knocked out. They forced themselves to like Mitt Romney towards the end because "Mormons are quintessential whites" and Obongo

...

He was a filthy Chad.

I remember everyone being on the Ron Paul train and then suspiciously all of a sudden a lot of people started shilling for Romney.

Most exploitable image in Sup Forums history. Easily had 200 variants.

Someone post the image of anally annihilated Sup Forums posts after Romney got blown the fuck out.

I do wonder if Chris Dorner happened today, would Sup Forums side with Dorner or the LAPD? BLM changed a lot of things.

I liked watching the 2011/2012 primary debates together with 4ch-n's /new/

youtube.com/watch?v=QobmAIhL-YQ

it was basically like this

At the time, we chose to ignore that Dorner was a gun grabber who wanted to see the children of NRA members executed.

There are still a :few: Libertarians on Sup Forums that, while disagreeing with BLM in certain fundamental ways, share their cynicism about law enforcement.

Sup Forums was different then

ron paul was kind of like a meme

people here loved him and we made 1000 edits of him because he was based as fuck

everyone made fun of romney

no one seriously thought he would win

then ron paul started creeping into the collective consciousness and the media and the establishments obvious bias against him and his ideas became clear

then by 2016, we were finally ready. ron paul was out, rand was not his father, and the thought of Jeb! in charge has us all terrified.

so last year and now we shill Trump as hard as we can as often as we can - but in 2012- there were no paid shills here making things difficult for us

things were a lot more fun back then. the paid posters have ruined a lot of great aspects of this website, but it's still good and we are winning but i think back nostalgically on those times

we were innocent then. just fucking around seeing what kinda of damage we could do

we are not innocent anymore

I find it disappointing that we abandoned the thinkers that used to be staples of Sup Forums - Ron Paul, Thomas Sowell, etc. - just for criticizing Trump.

I really like Trump better than the alternatives in many regards, but he is not the end-all-be-all of American political/economic thought.

I think it's more of a collective strategic choice for the election.
