American Gods, is it worth watching?

Is American God worth watching? I've been looking for something to sink some free time into. In the past I liked True Detective, GOT, Spartacus, Califoniacation and The Wire.

It's bad, but highly entertaining
When I read the book I thought "this would be unfilmable." So far I'm right. Loving the ride tho
Who knows you might like it

The show is a bit slow, compared to the book.

It's slow as fuck
Frankly the last episode is when shit actually happens

Show is garbage

It's okayish - heavy liberal propaganda in it though and a bunch of gay shit that was totally unnecessary as well.

That's kind of normal nowadays though.

It's your lucky day OP I just finished it. This first season benefitted from a binge watch, I think. It often meanders and gets caught up in itself, but it pulls it off with a lot of visual flair and some smile worthy character bits and generally weird shit.

I'd say worth a go, I was definitely intrigued by episode 2.

If its slow then I'll probably pass it up and go for Rome or something, thanks for the opinions though.

Mostly shit but has some good moments. It's not on the level of those shows you mention.

The book isn't particularly long.

Would've worked better as a miniseries desu, but I guess Starz was desperate for a lasting show.

>That gay arab on arab scene

yeah I suppose, you could do much worse

GAY

MUSLIM

GODS

I wonder if this is haram for them

Rome is slow too wtf

It's very lovecraftian if you are into that.

Djinn (which are not gods) are haram, or at least associating with them and making deals with them. There is also a passage in the Qu'ran which specifically warns about what he does: “And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the males among the jinn, but they (jinn) increased them (mankind) in sin and transgression.” [72:6]

Do not fuck the genie.

I don't get the Djinn thing as it was presented in the show.

So Arab salesman was having a shitty time in America, he finds a Djinn (knowing what it is) and invites him to fuck.

So now he is the Djinn? Or the Djinn is him? What was the bargain here, who got a good deal?

Fuck Drumpf and FUCK white people

Different setup between the show and book, from what I've heard.

In the book, basically it's a deal for Selim to escape his shitty life working for his cousin selling garbage; now he drives a taxi, but at least he's free of all his old ties. He is explicitly supernatural, with fiery eyes he needs to hide with sunglasses.

In the show, he's looking for the Jinn afterwards; same deal, but not magical. The Jinn gave him a chance to be free of his identity.

Maybe this is a cosmopolitan version of everyday's shit in the Middle East.

also

>that scene in the boat
>muh evil white man
>dumb niggers off themselves just because a futuristic nigger told them so

how the FUCK did they understand English though?

OP, all the fucks on here are trolling and making a big deal out of a few throwaway lines. It's not the best, but it's definitely a good watch compared to all the other shit on TV

yeah what was that.

The love scene with Mousa and Omid was quite possibly the most romantic, heart-warming scene I ever witnessed.

you mean this scene?

No. Half the episodes are filler. Also an entire episode of hardcore gay porn between a middle eastern cab driver and a genie.

This. It's just alright. The best parts of the show are specific scenes which are really interesting visually. It could be a lot better but it could be a lot worse.

Book was terrific, The series is okay, I liked watching it

Rome is slow but interesting. This is slow without any real substance behind it.

that was like a ten minute sequence, not a whole ep
