From what I hear, the reason Bollywood films are so over the top is because Indians don't often have the opportunity to go see a film in theaters so that, when they finally go, they want to really be entertained, and that's at least part of the reason why Bollywood productions seem so bloated, like with tons of drama, dancing, fighting, everything. This seems somewhat credible, although maybe some Indian user will try to convince me that they're really first world and they go to the theater all the time, and that it's just a matter of different tastes.
