I thought X-Treme X-men V2 as pretty good. Liu's run on Astonishing was as well.
If neither of those sound appealing and you still want to storytime, I'd love some over the top 90's stuff. X-Cutioner's Song, or Jim Lee's stuff.

Age of Apocalypse is a little gem that no one keeps into consideration because it's not """relevant""" enough and started out with resurrecting characters whose death made Earth-295 feel more different, but it was written very competently and had great art

This seems silly, but I really liked Marrow as depowered but still obvious ugly-mutant.
Her as a legit combat threat doesn't feel right.
Her as a messed up political dissident seems more like who she should be.

It literally did not matter. Even all the character development in it's stories were pointless because everyone died at the end.
