>Comics for makin' comics!
mediafire.com/folder/9pf1nwwa92lbp/Comics_for_making_Comics

>want to do a prequel type comic someday
>have a popular game setting in mind. always wanted to see it get more attention
>should get the COMIC more attention, finally get some real readers
>but that's going to limit the monetizing prospects somewhat
>I could just as easily make it my own original setting! In fact that would be more fun!
>but then it won't get that immediate popularity
The fact that I got way into Prequel despite knowing nothing about, and having no interest in, elder scrolls, is not helping this decision. In any case it's pretty far off

uh.. bump?

I wonder if Anterra Chronicles will update again

I actually wasn't going to make another thread but then the last one picked up nicely, so

so where is everybody?

Nobody is posting anything, so I might as well start
I finally finished this awful test prologue for my dumb webcomic, and it's a good 30 somethin pages long
vidyadeparted.tumblr.com/post/143519142838/first

If you don't wanna use that website, I got the whole thing on imgur too
imgur.com/a/t2SVB

I drew the first 10-20 pages months ago, just in case you are wondering why they look a lot worse than the rest of the pages
Tell me what you think. Is it actually somewhat decent or god awful?

two Ss in embarrassing
I'm liking this story. It's a little confusing though, are they all in the game all the time? why? even the complaint department? so the mom has an account?
But there's a neat story building here and I'm actually interested in it. surprising amount of depth. these characters feel like real people
The simplistic art does nothing for me since it's TOO simple to even make out what things are, yet the lighting and placement are all great. If you've been wondering if you should graduate past geometric shapes, I say go for it. You can clearly handle it. the way you block out the scenes and use different focus and all that, I love it

Holy shit did I misspell embarrassing? Well shit that's embarrassing
The whole story is supposed to be a slice of life comic about these losers playing some online game, they aren't stuck in it or anything. The mom being there was kindof just a neat visual I thought of.

For the geometric shapes, I do want to try to improve that, but I just kept it as it was for the whole thing just to keep it the same throughout the prologue. I'll definitely try my best to make it more complex in future updates

yeah you could just say the game got an update
I'm all for simplistic looks, as long as they're still recognizable and stand out, y'know? like, everyone recognizes a stick figure as a representation of human. These kinda don't
So is it meant to be a literal representation of what's in the game or only figurative?

I guess the visuals could be taken literally or figuratively. I was planning on it being literal but it being figurative might also be a nice way to go

Gimme some feedback.

I'm adding a character called Negrohst (still working on the name)

The gimmick is I'm only drawing 3/5's of him, and after that's used up I'm just going to make him have a longer ghost tail.

>Negrohst
That's stupidly dumb enough that it's perfect. I love it

>The gimmick is I'm only drawing 3/5's of him, and after that's used up I'm just going to make him have a longer ghost tail.
What? Maybe say that differently because I have no clue what that means

What's a good hosting site for a cub porn comic?

The Three-Fifths Compromise that was set up in 1787 when deciding what blacks would count for in terms of determining the number of seats in the US House of Reps.

Basically blacks weren't complete people.
Some say they still aren't to this very day.

Okay that's pretty funny, good on ya man

Sounds pretty retarded

I put off finishing this page when I could have had it done last night, so I could put more stuff in the backgrounds...
... still couldn't think of any today. Oh well

Huge thanks to everyone for (eventually) letting me know my lines sucked. This new larger canvas is more of a struggle to work with, but I think the results will be worth it once I get used to it. I can really see a difference in the lines.

I would definitely go with the ghrost spelling, but there's already a much better and less awkward pun for black-people-and-ghosts: spook

any of them except tumblr

Debuting Negrohst

Super scrub artist here, working through drawabox.

Just asking - is there a common angle I should be trying to get comfortable with to draw lines? Obviously, I should be trying to get good at drawing lines and such at every angle, but I'm kind of curious if there's one sort of most useful angle I should be working on. Like right now, I'm very comfortable drawing lines at a 45 degree angle from bottom left to top right, but I'm still wobbly drawing straight horizontal. I feel like it's a stupid question, but I'm just kind of curious.

I actually know what you mean. You can answer that question by just considering what kind of scenes you like to draw most

yo nigga could i get in on that discord

That's actually a super helpful answer, thanks.

do you actually need a fresh one every time, or are there seriously new people in every thread that want to join?

i'm new, i just...wanted to join

Okay just curious because we get so many people in every thread asking, I was wondering if it was the same guy every time and the links just expire or something

i am a new person who is trying to make a webcomic and would like to chat with others that are also making webcomics...
could i get a link

oh sorry, I can't give you one because of the settings or something
there's only 6 people in the thread right now, stick around and maybe someone can get you one

Any page where I can upload my comic? Or is it better to have a page of your own? or tumblr?

you get a website of your own, but it can be an account on a site like comicgenesis or comicfury

thanks mate! , I'm not going to upload anything anyway, for the moment I'm just drawing the characters and writing the story

This is the kind of thread where you get new people popping in for a thread or two and then disappearing forever. They'll ask for the Discord thinking "This time I won't lose interest!" I know so well because I'm one of those people.

That's the best way to start, yeah. and feel free to totally brainstorm at first, don't worry about it being orderly. jot down every thought you have, you can order it later when you're out of that mood
s'long as we get new blood. the last thread had a lot of interesting new peeps, and I'll link in case anyone wasn't there and wants to see the new comics:

Hi /hyw/, I finished updating the introduction of a project this week

theduckwebcomics.com/Noctimancy/5526886/

Do you guys ever deal with looking at past pages of your work and think that you could do better? I finished this a while back while doing a new chapter and when I look at it now I want to crawl into a hole.

gotta admit I have had trouble following this, but I like it anyway and have it bookmarked. It might be one of those comics that you need to read all in a row to really make heads and/or tails of it.
>the rest of that
strangely yes but it takes a while. I have a subtle gradient going back where everything looks okay if I did it recently, but awful the older it is.. and it's disturbing because that never changes, so what once looked good, then okay, now looks bad.. and I know everything I'm doing now is going to be like that in the future
just crawl into the hole with the rest of us and keep drawing. Your stuff looks nice. you can draw in the hole.

Thanks user, that's all pretty reassuring. I'd rather have a gradient and the hole than stop entirely.

Finished this page!

You felt need to fix the "getting punched" face

>artsy fartsy title page

he needs to fix the entire thing

Huh? She always got punched in the face in this page.

it's plain as shit

Fucking idiot you're just not educated enough to appreciate the subtle mood and implications brought out by the contrast between a soft gradient tone against the refined edges of a dignified font

someone randomly posted Ah Pie in the last thread. was that actually your comic? if so, come back, stick around, and maybe tell us about it
I can't get past the weird coincidence that Ah-Pie is the name of the dumpling-headed guy in Legend of Lucky Pie, and the Ah- part apparently means little brother while Lucky-Go is the older brother

>Project Wonderful adbox has been making piss-pennies for years
Should I just abandon the fucking thing? I'm probably better off not having the ugly little ad at the top of my page making me 2 cents a day and stick to waiting until I have enough readers to warrant a Patreon.

Posting comic.

Finally getting ready to start the next storyline. Grad school really eats up comic-making time.

Top tip:
You only need to get really good at drawing long straight lines at one angle. For angles that are more awkward, you can turn the paper (or digital canvas) when you need a really long line.

Pro tip: just trace from references

Bump.

First comic. First draft.

Second comic. First draft. I'd like the Discord invite once more.

i don't know what I'm reading

Well shit. I need to make it more apparent.

Cute, if a bit messy.

Ignore him, he's the village idiot.

Your idea's interesting, but you should work on your dialogue. Also, more dynamic panneling can help sell the punchline.

Some redesigns

synopsis:
A 30 year old sysadmin's breakup with his fiance leads him to uncover a web of conspiracies and he devises a plan to save humanity.

tapastic.com/series/Officew
I made this...unfortunately

It's my very first webcomic but it's mostly just a shitpost comic I do because it amuses me for stickmen to do ridiculous shit

Bump.

Bump

This comic is interesting.

Keep on making it.

>I don't want you help
snicker. keep it up

glad you're still around
so the 10:00-and-2:00 eyes weren't as popular with you eh? that's okay.

You can make it, if you don't give up.

Opinion needed.

Which of these sounds like a better villain name in a fantasy setting?

>Silas Korver
>Isaac Fairchild
>Cornelius Armin
>Tobias Harkin

I'd say Harkin's the best

Korver sounds crow inspired, which has gotten very stale and sounds way too obviously like a villain
Isaac Fairchild sounds way too 'on the nose' but would make sense with a religious character, so I place it at number 2. It also sounds a bit like you're trying too hard to make it sound like a 'not a villain' name by going too far in the opposite direction.
Armin isn't bad, but coupled with Cornelius sounds a bit too try-hard if that makes sense. It would fit perfect a steampunk setting, which you could take as either a compliment or an insult.
Tobias Harkin sounds like a real name and is fairly unique, but not in a way that sounds like you're trying to be unique for its own sake. Sounds villainy, but not in a corny way like 'Sol Badguy.'

Depends on the villain, and what kind of person they are, what their appearance is. Silas Korver sounds like a lower class cowardly miser, while Isaac Fairchild could be a wealthy, handsome, but exceedingly cruel noble.
Tell us what you have in mind.

He's supposed to be a fairly average individual in terms of any discernible skill. He can't really fight, has no magic abilities to speak of. The only thing he is really doing is organizing Machine Abominations in an attempt to allow them to take over the world because he sees them as Perfection.

A better comparison.

Imagine the Unitologists from Dead Space in terms of motivation.

Tobias Harkin fits that description. Though I would rename him Tobias Harker.

I'd say Tobias then. Sounds like the name of someone who would want to ruin the world

>organizing a machine takeover
eh... none of those first names works then.. but i could see him being a dr. isaacson

Cool, thanks for the input

bumples

At what point should I actually share my webcomic here instead of just lurking? I've never posted it because I'm afraid of being attention seeking, even though sharing your webcomic is the entire point of these threads. Is just sharing a link to your webcomic acceptable?

If you actually have material to share you're golden.

Post it dog.

give us a link, post a page you think is a good representation, and give us a little info on what it's about
if it sucks, just say something like 'i'm still learning' and anyone reasonable will understand

Alright.
It's called Something You Want. I started it last year as a joke, but then kept going and now i'm 260 pages in. I'm in the process of redoing the beginning so it doesn't suck, and I'm working hard to better my artstyle and writing. I'm also working on getting it hosted on an actual website, but at the moment it's hosted on tumblr and tapastic. Here's the most recent page.
Basic premise is the main character runs a failing deli and gets wrapped up in selling human meat to cannibals.
somethingyouwant.tumblr.com/
tapastic.com/series/Something-You-Want
I need to update the tapastic with the most recent pages, but here it is.

For comparison, here's the first page. It's REALLY bad, but I have the redo in progress

Look like pearl if she got turn into a human boy.

shit, I like the style! I'll give this a shot. if the story's good I think you've got yourself a bookmark

well it seems like your other page is solid so i have faith you can redo this one easy

Thanks. Here's the first page of the redo, which I'm still not totally happy with but it's a start. I'm not too far into the redo but it'll get there.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't see it too.

will bones ever be good at anatomy?

he posted this on his deviantart today

its his main character for his webcomic or whatever

im obviously not him, just asking

>I'm not too far into the redo
if it's still not too late, maybe reconsider. I think your first comics are charming as all fuck. There's nothing really wrong with them, they're just simple messy cartoons.

You can redraw the pages when you're assembling them for a print collection, to keep the art style consistent. But until then, focus on the new pages. Keep going forward.

bump
doing a guest comic for another comic. i'll share it when i'm done

Bump.

Hm, you may be right. I haven't had a lot of time to work on them for a few months, maybe I'll tackle them all at once if printing is ever a possibility like you said. Thanks!

I've never seen him make an attempt, beyond tracing, so no.

>replying to either probablybones or a troll trying to stir shit up
cmon user. cmonon.

>tapastic.com/series/Officew
People keep telling me that despite my incredible self loathing. Huh I guess I really should do this

yeah dude even if you completely sucked that's no reason to quit.

The question to me now is how much do I suck?

MONSTER LANDS has updated. The Destructor believes Marcus is the hero he has to fight. He is wrong because Marcus is a fraud to takes credit for the protagonist's hard work.
