What makes a certain comic character an A-lister, B-lister, C-lister, D-lister, etc.?

What makes a certain comic character an A-lister, B-lister, C-lister, D-lister, etc.?

The ability to make someone pick up a comic. Ultra Humanite was the first supervillain ever and no one cares about him because he's kinda dull.

Amount of memorable stories, appearances in comics, merch, movies, cartoons and all that jazz.

I guess it depends on popularity and how much they are known.

Batman for example is A-lister because he's extermly populer to comic readers and non readers.

>Real world renown
>Marketability
>Continued presence in works
>Relevance In-Universe

Importance on comic book history, recognizability on pop culture and among comic book fans, memorable stories, influence, popularity, merchandising, etc.

What makes certain character a C-lister or D-lister?

>A-List : Has a solo live action movie
>B-List : Key supporting character in live action movie
>C-List : Appeared in non-comic media such as animation
>D-List : Comic appearances only

You know this is true

D-lister is anyone you have to google.
Nope.

C-lister is character only known to comic readers and doesn’t has much of relevancy in-universe.

D-lister is completely unknown and irrelevant character.

Just checking to see if I get it correctly:

>A lister: posterboy

Permanent runs with their own spinoff runs and knockoff characters. Most likely star in various different mediums.

>B lister: immortal

Prominent characters that you can see decapitated and be 100% sure you'll see running around by next year

>C lister: recurring

Resurrection is not guaranteed, and if it happens it might take up to several years. Alternatively, a brand name that's easily replaceable

>D lister: irrelevant

Characters that exist to test a reader's memory, and usually ger killed for good shortly after

>E lister: literally who?

Complete fucking failures, they're lucky if they appear in the background of a spread.

Someone did this list and it's completely accurate.

I mostly agree with the definitions, but E-List doesn't exist, the correct term is Z-List

>Alternatively, a brand name that's easily replaceable
So all Marvel heroes are C-listers?

You could probably bump Swamp Thing up to C-list at least, maybe a B. He's had a video game adaptation and even a TV series and a couple of movies, so he's nowhere near as obscure as a D-list.

And he appears in most online vidyas, from what I remember, yes. He's not THAT obscure but he's sure as fuck not A-lister.

That would mean Flash, and Wonder Woman are B listers at best and Aquaman C list.

The fuck are you talking about both Flash and Wonder Woman have had their own live action show with Wonder Woman even being a feminist Icon. And Aquaman would be B-list cause he's apeared in a lot of cartoons and Smallville.

it's correct though
normies don't care about wonder women, flash isn't as well known as batman and supes, plus aquaman is a joke in normie's eyes

Having no live action films makes them B list according to user's post.

Guy said movie not show or icon.

He's poking holes in his logic.

It's not about people caring about them, it's about people knowing who they are. I'd definitely say Wonder Woman's A-list, and Aquaman high B-list

Man-thing is a A lister.

So, for example..

>A-lister
Batman

>B-lister
The Robins + Batgirl

>C-lister
Batwoman

>D-lister
The rest of the batfamily like Cass and Stephanie

>Z-lister
Onyx and the like of her

An A-lister is someone a rando off the street has a decent chance of telling you who they are and their origin. Maybe some villains and shit to flesh it out.

Everyone and their mother knows Batman's parents were killed and his name's Bruce Wayne. Everyone knows Superman is an alien baby from Krypton. Everyone knows Wonder Woman is an Amazon. Wonder Woman's the diciest because a lot of public conscious is still stuck on her old powers and origins, some folks still think she can't fly or needs an invisible jet, for instance. But that's still SOMETHING they know about her.

People can do this with Spider-man, particular X-men(Wolverine, most notably), Captain America, Hulk etc. That's how you know a character is A-list, the public conscience is generally aware of them and can give you some detail. The Fantastic Four were like this, but over the years might've faded from that spot.

Flash is probably the perfect example of a B-lister who's almost an A-lister. For the longest time Flash was just "That guy who goes fast." No one knew his name, origin, villains, which city he worked in blah blah. The show and, maybe more importantly, the movie might go a ways towards changing that but until then he's firmly B-List: people know something about who you're talking about, they'd recognize a picture, but that's about it.

C-List is basically only comic readers know about them. Your Plastic Mans and Black Bolts and whatnot.

This is the most accurate list because it's focus mainly on the comic fanbase and acknowledge non comic fans.

This is stupid list because it's focus only on Sup Forums.

Eh, by your list Barry Allen was a C-lister for like 20 years, same with Captain Marvel. Doesn't really fit if you're going for generalizations.

Depends on whether it's for comic readers or casuals

Comic readers
>A list: has their own comic and has had one more often than not, usually appears on teams. Bonus points: has more than one solo and appears on more than one team at a time. Usually the characters DC and Marvel continue to push. Does appear outside of comics. Casuals know these.
>B list: has their own comic and has had one more than not, sometimes appears on teams. Does appear outside of comics sometimes. Some casuals know some of these.
>C list: doesn't always have a comic, yet may have 1-3 runs in their history of existing. Casuals don't know these, but these are usually the characters that have a small but dedicated fanbase.
>D listers: has never had a comic, or if they had it was a mini at best, character usually is not a reoccurring character. Will at most have a cameo outside of comics that comic fans will go insane over. Not even a lot of comic fans know these, let alone casuals.

As for non comic readers, it's harder to say.
Batman, Superman, and Spider man I feel are the only definite A list heroes. With Half of Batman's rogue gallery and Lex Luthor being the definitive A list villains.
Current MCU, the main JL, and maybe the cartoon Teen Titans are probably B listers. Since a lot of people may be able to name them and what they do and shit.
Then you got shit like Batgirl and Robin where people know them but most don't KNOW them. Like there are people who know Batman and Robin but they think that Robin is his actual name thank you Nolan, though I guess if they play video games they know there's more than one Robin. So they could be B listers in recognizability but still C listers since people don't know shit about them.

>An A-lister is someone a rando off the street has a decent chance of telling you who they are and their origin. Maybe some villains and shit to flesh it out.
I would add to this that it's not something you get into based on "on the day" popularity. You need to have a certain sort of iconic status.

You do know that character can move from C-lister to A-lister, right?

Pretty much.

They weren't C-listers when they died. Or ever. Judging a character's relevance by what might happen if they died is dumb.
