What is the best sci-fi film of the last decade Sup Forums?

>premeditatedly obviates Interstellar

Oblivion

Action Sci-Fi: Edge of Tomorrow
"""Cerebral""" Sci-Fi: Arrival, probably

EoT and 2049 are far better than every other film listed

Of those it's probably BR.

absolute state of this genre

The Force Awakens

Looper is the only one that actually approaches the patrician depressing 70's sci-fi feel.

force awakens

Dredd

Dredd was pretty good. Definitely has the best waifu (although EoT comes close).

Best I've seen of the last ten years at least off the top of my head:

>Hunter Prey
>The Signal
>Eden Log
>Under the Skin
>Edge of Tomorrow
>Beyond the Black Rainbow
>Shin Gojira
>Blame!
>Hardcore Henry
>District 9
>Hard to be a God
>Moon

haven't watched this yet, I'll watch it right now.

which one is the most overrated?

Looper sucks dick.

Why is it that no sci-fi flick has come even remotely close to 2001? How is 2001 so perfect?

Looper is such a shit film, even Her and Coherence are better

Interstellar is clearly the best.

>Sup Forums isn't full of childre--

Arrival, Inception, Looper and Ex Machina were all Redditcore trash.
Haven't seen BR 2049 yet so I will go with Edge of Tomorrow

post your pick then, tough guy

good post

Inception was the most overrated at the time it came out. It got a ton of hype and now is basically forgotten.

What do you mean? 2001 is fairly low-concept, and plot/content aside, BtBR surpassed it cinematographically.

Hard to Be a God, hands down

terrible post

it doesn't matter
next month you plebs will be claiming its whatevers "cool" with the /r/movie fedorian buffs
much like horror

>t. watched under thirty science fiction films

then Source Code, Moon and Martian

name some sci-fi flicks that come close then

protip:youcan't

People unironically think the best science fiction movie is one of them from OP's post?

Watch more movies, fuck.

No love for Upstream Color?

psst it also said 'of the last decade' which is an incredibly low bar

Someone posted a list with multiple earlier in the thread.

No they didn't

There are people in the thread naming movies from the last decade that shit all over those as we speak.

Explain how 2001 is high concept, then. I'm patient.

Name your top five science fiction films. I will immediately know how many you've watched based off of what you name.

This isn't a patrician thread

why should I, brainlet?

OP is that delusional cuck from yesterday pretending nu-blade is masterpiece because he saw it and so desperately wants to praise the nu-shit

2001
Solaris

that's it, the only sci-fi worth anything.

Only plebs will disagree.

Because that's how adults defend their opinions.

Source Code's ending ruined it. I disliked the idea of the machine actually creating alternate universes or whatever. The protagonist (Stevens) wanting to try and "save" everybody -- even though it was a meaningless gesture -- prior to his death would have been a much more interesting ending.

The ending with Stevens occupying Fentress's body also creates some weird, depressing problems. Now "Fentress" would no longer recognize any of his family and friends and would basically disappear from all their lives without explanation.

adults don't go on Sup Forums

>not understanding Looper

top brainlet

Oh so you've watched less than five.

>Solaris
I remember when I was fourteen and just getting into film.

*tips fedora*

inb4 underage ban

>Thinking paradoxical reasoning is comprehensible
The irony

You're one of those pseuds that pretend objectively great movies aren't as great as they are to give the illusion of taste.

you're not an adult

post your top five then, tough guy

Lmao holy shit, I am talking to a child aren't I. I feel embarrassed now.

t. actual child

>BtBR
what the fuck is that

Beyond the black rainbow

entry level pleb shit really

a meme movie

Nobody said 2001 is a bad movie, kid. I'm just laughing at you for thinking it's the best thing ever made.

>"objectively" great
>calls others pseuds
2001 is a great movie. Thinking it's the best science fiction movie ever made reflects a lack of exploration of the medium.

Solaris kindof sucks.

I already posted my top twelve from the last decade earlier in the thread.

Ex Machina, it's standard AI fare and I'm surprised by its critical reception

A 6/10 movie that happens to have some of the best cinematography in film history.

I never said you said it was bad, I said you pretend it's not as great as it is because you want to seem like you have taste.

then name a better sci-fi film.

seems interesting, Ill check it out

2049 is pretty high, almost on the level of Blade Runner

this and its not even close

these films are really terrible by the way, I can't believe you actually rate The Signal.

>Go to the kinoplex after I'm done with class for the day.
>Decide to go see Oblivion, heard decent things from it from Sup Forums
>Older couple infront of me in the line to get tickets.
>They are still trying to decide which movie to go see
>The old lady says, "How about Oblivious, the one with Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman".
>Did I hear that right? "Oblivious?"
>The old couple make it to the ticket booth.
>"Two tickets for Oblivious please"
>"Excuse me?", the ticket lady asked.
>"That Tom Cruise movie..."
>"Oh you mean Oblivion"
>"Oh..." the poor old lady must have felt stupid now that she could see the title of the movie on the display on top.
>My turn
>"One for Obliviou...I mean Oblivion"
>Mfw

I literally just told you I posted my top twelve from the last decade earlier in the thread. Most of those I consider better movies than 2001. 2001 may have good cinematography, but as for concept it's weak and story it's boring.

You're welcome for all the free recs, maybe you'll be able to name more than two movies from now on.

what was that space indie film Tv talked so much about before? Solaris or something? I need to know the name because I wanna watch it. it was recently released-

The Signal is awesome.
>that ending

Here's some old-fi worth watching that newfags probably never seen

Silent Running (1972)
World on a Wire (1973)
Zardoz (1974)
Logan's Run (1976)
Altered States (1980)

You haven't seen half of them. And it's 2014 signal, not 2007, which deals in higher science fiction concepts than 2001.

This is what a brainlet looks like, unironically thinking shit flicks like Hardcore Henry, Moon, The Signal, Shin Gojira, EoT and District 9 are better than fucking 2001.

Edge of tomorrow = Tomorrowland > interstellar

Because 2001 was an intellectual endeavor and films like the ones in OP are popcorn plebian shit.

>2001 is LITERALLY the best science fiction movie ever made
>there are LITERALLY no good science fiction movies other than 2001 and Solaris
You think you have taste?

Sup Forumstard taste

this is a better list. still not great.

i'll get shit on for saying this but Interstellar was quite nice

ITT: a lot of people pretending they have better taste in "sci-fi" than others but never actually quoting a single decent sci-fi movie that isn't from the last decade
/thread

I unironically believe all of those other than Moon and EoT are better than 2001, yes. They simply have more interesting science fiction, are more entertaining, or both.

Name a better sci-fi film then.

embarrassing desu, i'd assume this is bait but I know you're just an idiot.

>Shin Gojira
>Hard to be a God
>Eden Log
>Under the Skin
>terrible
Compared to what?

Star Wars A New Hope is literally better than 2001.

I've still yet to see one movie posted that's better than 2001.

>t. Solaris and 2001 are the only good sci-fi movies

Arrival was bad precisely because of how dumb it was. Perceiving time in a non-linear fashion does not magically give you the ability to see the future.

(OP)
all those movies were absolute garbage
>tfw when no mention of Moon or District 9
fucking americunts and their retarded movie release policy

The thread is about sci-fi movies from the last decade, dumbass.

It's blatantly obvious you are just too dumb to get 2001, somehow.

...

It's not relevant to the thread, and no, Silent Running, Zardoz, and Logan's Run are garbage. Have you even watched all of the stuff you're talking about?

Ex-Machina is the best by far in that list

What's this movie I'm trying to remember - A woman goes to a futuristic city or hotel or something and then becomes animated, and then it goes all mad alternate reality or something

Under the skin and Hard to be a god are the only good ones there, and under the skin is barely sci-fi.

anywhere I can find a good copy of Eden Log? Only ones I can find are in under 1GB

>Silent Running
>Better than The Signal

You literally think Solaris is the only other good science fiction movie and haven't seen 75% of the shit posted in this thread.

The Signal is fucking garbage you brainlet.

...
