The state of the US Army

I'd like to hear perspectives on the US Army from people outside, even people who aren't Americans.

A good friend of mine has become increasingly dark and depressed over the Army. He's been in a good long while, he used to only rarely get angry at shit, like Jessica Lynch (sp?) being some sort of hero or how Patrick Tillman got murdered and nobody did anything about it.

But he's increasingly become insistent on the state of 'pussification' and 'entitlement' as he puts it. He states that most people (in his opinion) on disability from the VA are just milking the system, and why not when 100% gets you close to 3 grand tax-free a month?

What do you guys think. Is he just a bitter vet or is the army a bunch of entitled fucks? I mean, they DO get huge preferential treatment for jobs. Even if they aren't qualified.

1: there is a reason why the military is refered to as welfare queens

2: he is correct about the pussification of people in America

3: very rarely are entitlements actually earned and it is somewhat arguable that military earns theirs but again that is mostly a case by case basis.

4: service guarantees citizenship

5: US military is in shit shape compared to 2007

>t. Former welfare queen now payroll accountant

Thanks for the input. My friend's gotten rather angry about certain 'desk jockeys' making 80-90 percent disability for never having ever been exposed to danger, nor anything remotely related to it. Also, as in some cases I've seen it.

I met one of his ''exact cases in point" in the local gamestore, a guy who gets 100%, was a supply sergeant, rides a motorcycle, runs a moving business . Disabled, can't work, gets 100% and runs a business lifting things for money that he started with federal business loans made cheaper by his service. I get why he gets angry at that.

I do too. But I still get mad at just basic shit. I watch homeless people wander around the streets of my city and we waste money as a nation. Not saying I think our nation's troops are stupid or fucked in the head or anything but I think our DOD budget is super wasteful. Between hiring idiots and, well, the F-35 Program, there's a lot of wasted money.

It's pretty much impossible to not be bitter as fuck if you stay in long enough.

But yeah, under that nigger and his administration it has gotten pretty soft.

Wasn't the army once pretty fucking smart and strong? I mean, weren't they the professional service by which American interests were kept alive?

Started during the Clinton administration.

Nowadays with all the progressive bullshit, well the military is not immune to policy from up high.

The fact that fags are allowed in and they will now fund tranny surgery for people that not only are supposed to defend America but that our dicksucking leaders rely on to defend all of nato is absolute proof that the entire west is in deep shit

Other than the marines and maybe some tankers you don't really have patriots in the army anymore just spineless shits that are in for free money and college who would shit pants and run at the first sign of real fighting

My only hope is that the Russians liberate us before the Muslims or communist China makes us slaves

And look before you take this personal and start calling me fucking leaf yes the same shit goes on in our army too

The difference is the Canadian army isn't being trusted to defend even Canada let alone the entirety of western nations

Welcome to abuse of the system. The disability is actually handled by the VA not DoD. DoD has it's own shit shows to handle. Look up the contractors who handle housing quarters for the barracks. It's fucking retarted. The specialists who handled our room cards made 65k a year and they sat on their ass and everytime a drink chucklefuck either locked himself out or broke his key card (which is like a 3 dollar piece of plastic with a chip in it). The contract as a whole is a 8 million dollar contract. That manages 1 brigade of troops. It's fucking amazing at the waste. If it was run by quartermasters (IE in house) it would be managed at such a cheaper rate.

DoD pisses away money. The VA pisses away more.

This assclown gets it.

Not only that, but basically every Western army there is is still stuck using WWI tactics (advance until the enemy shows up, call in air/artillery support, repeat)

This makes it hard to actually win any wars

Another thing that's strange is think of all the officer's wives that get free hookups and preference for jobs they are totally unqualified for. AAFES = ASIAN AMERICAN FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE.

Not army, but many people hit the nail on the head. There's a huge push down from the higher ups to fight for tolerance and progressiveness. Just about anyone can get in the military and hardly know how to do their job. There's some qualified women, but there's a lot that really should not be in the military at all, might as well be on welfare. Many of us do not have he time to maintain physical readiness due to a massive bureaucratic workload and meaningless tasks.
There's a lot of tension with the people who have been in and a large loss of faith in their government. If a civil war happens, I expect at least a 50% defect. Not sure what will happen to us overseas if a happening happens though.

I mean hell, I got out in 2010 and even then you couldn't hardly get away with hazing people, couldn't even NJP fuckers til they puked anymore. That was Infantry. From what I've heard EO isn't a joke job anymore for that matter.

I don't even want to know how bad it's gotten.

From what my buddies say (2008-2012 myself) who are going life. The PC progressive BS is real. Most are trying to find a way to go Warrent and hide from most of the bullshit.

Spot on.

You got out at a good time. I remember back in late 2010, early 2011, life was easy with the marines. PT every day and training (physical, not power points) once a week at least. Hazing wasn't too bad either. Our SSGT gassed our shack with a CS fogger because he thought we were being lazy. One marine got butthurt though. Too worried about not hurting feelings. I know a handful of people who think Islam isn't a security threat.

You gotta remember, there's a lot of 'leaders' coming in straight out of college with no experience. It's almost scary.

You ain't lying. Some of the new butterbars and NCOs are so fucking green they piss grass.

I had to give a spec-4 that never once deployed his E-5 rank. I'm infantry and I'm one of about 10 in my company with a combat patch, most of which are upper NCOs and one fuck-up that bounces up and down ranks like a game of Chutes and Ladders.

Not too sure how much longer I want to stay in. Have been here for 11 years, 4 deployments, and two presidents. Honestly wondering if I'm going to see Iraq again.

I won't lie, I've never been on a combat deployment and I'm an E5. But I've done a small handful of humanitarian relief efforts and worked in an ER for the majority of my time. I've dealt with a good bit of stuff and was mostly able to keep my ass out of the bureaucratic bull. Now where I'm at in Japan, I deal with it all the time with a bunch of shitty NCOs. I really wish they fixed the ranking system in the Navy. I just know that wherever I go next, I don't want it to be blue. Been in for about 8 years.

In case of civil war, i personally expect the competent people to defect to the "rebels" while the shitskins and women stay with the government. Which is their intent i guess, you don't replace your forces with objectively inferior elements just for popularity gains.

And i'm not talking just about the us, it's the same in all western military.

Can you still enjoy playing Battlefield or is it boring now?

No clue, I honestly have never played it. But its cute that you're trying so hard.

Been many years since I've visited Japan. How is it nowadays?

Honestly, it's not too bad. I bet it's tough for marines still, but at least a lot of the restrictions from years ago (2010) have been lifted. But because of that fucking boot female E5 corpsman fuck up on Oki, everyone E5 and below need a liberty buddy if you want to drink. I don't drink so it doesn't bother me, but I know it bothers my juniors.

I learned good leadership from bad leaders and I try to make sure my juniors are taken care of. I don't give a shit talking down to higher ranks if I know they're in the wrong. Think being with the marines helped me realize that.

Checked.

they would win wars just fine. its the politicians and liberal cucks that hogtie them so they cant. the are simply not allowed to win a war. anymore.

Just be mindful of what your juniors see/hear you doing when they're in your presence as they too are learning good/bad leadership from your example. Took me a bit of time, a loss of rank, and a promotion before I learned that. A slice of humble pie was good for me in the long run but damn if it didn't waste some time.

Don't forget to take care of the support personnel, too. Many a time, the odd present to the supply guys and the admin monkeys helped my squad out in the long run. Cigs and beer are good presents for Christmas during staff duty.

Well, most militaries go to shit during a draw down after major conflict.

Our problem is that the administration is currently purging our veteran officer corp from the top down, and pushing all sorts of absolutely batshit 'progressive' policies that have everything to do with diversity, demasculinization, and LGBTBBQ acceptance and nothing to do with warfighting, organization or morale.

Our military is literally collapsing from the top down as an institution.

>I'm infantry and I'm one of about 10 in my company with a combat patch,

I remember 2 NCOs that didn't have a patch while I was in, and one of them was because he joined as enlisted with a degree and fast tracked. Never mind the boatload of specialists and fuckups that were patched.

That's a shame.

Oh, of course. My guys know that if anything comes up, I'll shoulder them for it. And working in an ER taught me quick that you gotta be on good terms with ancillary services. I try to be as tactful as possible now. Almost lost rank for my attitude back in 2013. But, I learned.

Tillman was a faggot who should have kept his fucking mouth shut .

Smart man. A lot of guys never learned. But then, to be fair, the Surge brought a lot of shady as fuck elements into the military. Some worked out, most didn't.

I get that most of the old boys left while the getting was good, chasing merc money or civie jobs post-2009. But damn if it didn't leave a hot mess for those of us that stayed in to figure out how to fix.

Training only goes so far.

That's why I worry if there ever were to be a draft. We have a load of fuck ups in the military as it is and these people sign up for this. Imagine if we forced people to join who would never even want to join. A lot of lives would be lost.

I've thought about the idea of a Heinlein-esque 2-year Federal Service commitment post high school in order to acquire full citizenship (right to vote, take public office, etc.).

So many bad things would happen but that would be nothing compared the sheer amount of good that would come from it.

#1. Reason: Severely reduced afflictions of PTSD.

>Why?

Take Israel, with a mandatory coming-of-age military commitment after secondary school. War and conflict will be a societal "same old, same old, we've done it too, you crybaby faggot." Not only would this result in a tighter community, but it would galvanize the idea of being an American citizen in the public eye.

Always the argument I've had against mandatory service.

I mean, maybe in the reserves or national guard, but active duty just no

I honestly have to agree that would be a good idea. They could opt for a longer contract with a better job (a rate/mos that needs more training) or just do the one tour in something easy. It would definitely help with our manning issues. Plus, those digits can't be wrong.

The biggest reason why combat troops come back all fucked up isn't always because of what they did, didn't do, see, heard, smelled (or whatever) while deployed... its coming back to a place that puts their asses on a pedestal and further adds difficulty to the reintegration process.

If you make federal service mandatory for all prospective citizens, even just a 2-year ToD, then people can identify with each other better and maybe chill the fuck out. I've had 5 friends in 3 years commit suicide because of that shit, and it bothers me that after 14 years the US can't figure out a solution.

Its simple. Make everyone the same (due to federal service) and no one has to be different. "I remember my contract..." becomes the standard line at a bar and the special snowflake soldiers will learn to act right instead of banking on their uniform for sympathy from civies.

You should write this stuff to Trump. In case he gets in office. I know he said he wants to fix the military. Plus, such a thing would even give every at least a little job experience, instead of just being thrown into the work force.

>it bothers me that after 14 years the US can't figure out a solution.

Wake up user, it is the solution.

Oh, but what about all the fatties and broke people?

Trying hard to what?

Just a question.

I feel bad for all you army cats
The air force is even worse since most of us are desk jockeys and at best fob queens.
I'm barely even military it's more of a government corporation.

Federal Service doesn't necessarily mean military service. Ideally, that would be the way to go but then, how many jobs are there out there, right now, that primarily employ fatties and broke people.

>Answer

The VA as well as other government-employee positions (GS positions, basically).
