Whats the appeal of thor?

whats the appeal of thor?

Epic Mythology, viking action, magic.

/thread

This.
All the things he doesn't have in the movies.

Arthurian legend would have been a better sell

He's a shit tier Aquaman but more accessible to casuals because people already have some knowledge of Norse myth

Do you find Iron Man or Cap comics the slightest bit appealing?
Because I sure as shit don't.

People forget that Thor is just as much as a Sci-Fi character as he is a Fantasy one.

>shit tier Aquaman
That's so bizarre that I can't resist the (You).

Beefcake

The better Thor

How is he at all similar to Aquaman?

Read Thor: God of Thunder

Jack Kirby and Walter Simonson

He can swing his hammer at Warp 1.3 and still jobbed to Spider-man so you can see a range of fights from him.

He was created as powerporn.
Literally.
The interviews with the creators have the story being that they asked themselves what would be more powerful than a super-man, and the answer is "a god".
... well, there is a new answer these days.

I like how even as Marvel's superman, he is not alone as the top most powerful one. He comes from a place where lots and lots of people are just as powerful as him.

Finding someone to take on Superman is often a challenge, with Thor it can be a exceptionally strong troll or giant.

I like his friendship/rivalry with Hercules. When was the last time they meet?

Solid epic fantasy with modern elements sprinkled in. It was essentially the test run for New Gods.

Two solid runs: Kirby and Simonsson.

A solid rouges gallery: Loki Enchantress and Executioner, Surtur, Absorbing Man, The Destroyer Armor.

A solid supporting cast: Sif, Warriors Three, Bill, Odin

Thor is how to do high power level capes right.

And he still works in space too.

He's good friends with Silver Surfer, Quasar, Epoch, In Betweener, Stranger, and Adam Warlock.

He knows, has fought, or his father beat up some of the big cosmic villains too. Thanos, Galactus, Ego, Mephisto, Celestials, all know who he is.

He wrestles dragons I guess.

The thing that makes the whole Thor mythos work so well in comics is the link Thor has to Earth.
You can have all these epic god battles and magical realm bullshit and fucking Wizard Legolas as the archenemy but at the end of the day Thor belongs on Earth, or at least in the Earth's dimension.
It really brings the becoming a superhero aspect around to a logical conclusion.

Or Volstagg's pet anyways.
